Loose electric seat

Hey there! Recently acquired electric seats for my E34, but I noticed that there’s some back and forth movement while driving. All the bolts were tightened up and it looks like some of the gears are loose. Do you think it could be the gears or something else? Where should I start with repairs (hopefully without a good investement)? Any help is appreciated.

Vapor barrier modern solutions

I have been driving my E34 without the vapor barriers I know bad ideas , I would love to put OEM back on but I am 100% sure there exists better solutions. I know the vapor barrier is foam on one side and hydrophobic plastic on the other , one my friend suggested I use STP sound deadening but that would be a hassle to remove if I want to do anything to the inside of a door.

20yo Looking at an E34 as a First Car

Hey,

I am 20 years old and currently looking at getting my first car. I’ve always loved the e34 and want to get some advice. Right now I’m looking at three different e34s that are all roughly around the same price range. There’s a 525i auto with about 230000 km (137k miles), a 535i manual with 280000 km (173k miles), and a 530i auto with about 265000 km (165k miles).

All of them have service books and seem pretty well looked after. The only known issue is with the 535i manual. The seller mentioned it got hot after idling for around 30 minutes because the auxiliary fan did not kick on and the temperature went back to normal once a desk fan was put through the radiator.

Given those options, what would you guys go for? I really like the idea of owning a manual e34 but I also want to be realistic since I’m planning on daily driving the car (if this is practical). I’m willing to work on the car myself and I know a decent amount mechanically, atleast when it comes to japanese cars. I can do most easy to medium jobs like brakes, suspension, sensors etc but probably wouldn’t be confident doing something like a valve adjustment or changing a transmission. I am also in Australia, so I’m also curious what parts availability is looking like for e34s over here. What kinds of issues should I expect? Financially, I’ve got a fair amount saved, still live with my parents, and don’t really have many expenses, so I am willing to spend money maintaining the car properly if needed.

I’m still in the early stages of researching all this so excuse any ignorance on my end. Would really appreciate any advice.

First project

How do you rate an E34 as a first project car? I have very basic car knowledge but im really looking forward to restoring/ owning a project car. I want to learn as much as possible by doing everything myself.
Now good as a first project car is the E34? I saw a running 525 nearby me for sale for a good price

Car shaking at high speeds?

I was driving and noticed my car was shaking while my foot was on the accelerator while over 65? I’m pretty it’s a suspension issue but, where would I start and how would I go about replacing suspension parts? Are there any detailed guides?

This was filmed with the car off so you can hear it better.
Today I noticed this noise my rwd e34 makes and im a little worried what it could be. i suspect driveshaft or rear diff (im not a mechanic)
On Friday i made a 500km trip to Germany and back with a stretch of autobahn where i got up to 210 km/h for a short time. didnt notice anything weird while driving

Radio went out?

My radio turns on but doesn’t produce any audio. I’m not sure if my 92’ 525i has an amp. Has anyone had this issue before?

Check your engine mounts before you go to the track

At a recent track day, under hard acceleration and cornering, I was hearing all sorts of noise up front. I attributed it to a slipping belt, namely the AC belt. Turns out, the engine was bucking inside the engine bay, causing the fan to make contact with the inside of the hood.

Whoops. Lesson learned. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

M50b20

Bonjour, est ce que le moteur m50b20 monté sur e34 1991 est un moteur au plomb? Si non pourquoi l'ancien propriétaire mettait du remplace plomb dans le carburant ?

Is it worth it?

I found an S52b32 engine. They are asking $2900 for everything. Is this a good/fair price?

Gods motor

Who’s else crazy enough to buy a supposedly blown up e34 with 500k miles besides my dad and I 😂 Got the car home got her started she was missing bad on cylinder 2 compression test came back at 0psi in that cylinder took the head off noticed a broken chain guide and two slightly bent intake valves. Sent the head to the machine shop for new valves while me and my dad did all new guides and chains. Threw it all back together and she’s running like a champ. He’s put 100 miles on it already no issues and put on some Gold face RC090s. Who said BMWs are unreliable 💪

Is all this buzz and clunk normal? Coming from the dash.

Let me know if you have heard similar sounds and if it’s something that can be fixed. I’m thinking that it may be related to the climate control though the blower fan is off.
