Most FUN TO PLAY Universes Beyond/Secret Lair (UB) commander?

I know people ask for favorite commanders every day. However, I’m building some playtest decks with a singular focus on Universes Beyond and Secret Lair Drop commanders. These are just for testing and fun, so price and card availability don’t really matter. I’m not looking for hyper-optimized turn 2–3 win decks. I want fun, weird, interactive stuff. Decks that make memorable games and surprising moments.

I’m mainly curious about one thing:

How FUN are they to play WITH and AGAINST?

Would love to hear:

1.What commander do you recommend?
2.Why is it fun?
3.How do you usually play the deck?
4.Do opponents usually get salty or feel bad?

I’m only interested in Universes Beyond and Secret Lair Drop (UB) commanders.

I will make the ultimate Fortnite game. I will not shy away. I shall embrace it as to not be crushed under the weight of IP recognition.

Thank you for your time.

Giada, Font of Hope Deck Refinement

Hey y'all - Friend had me help build out a Giada deck, looking for one that could be strong on a budget (hopefully a solid bracket 3 typal deck, higher if possible) and be upgraded over time with more money sunk into the deck. Trying to keep under $100 at first if possible, but if we can get lower hell yeah!

Here's the list: https://archidekt.com/decks/22151893/giada\_the\_wings

Would love this community's help figuring out how to best make this deck win. I prioritized 3-4 drop angels but think I'm probably lacking some protection for Giada? Maybe more lifegain effects?

Look forward to hearing what y'all think! First time putting together an angels deck and I'm not sure if I'm missing any like core pieces to make it progress.

Should We Ban the Banlist

New article from Constant Lists is up. Should the ban list go away?! Why should it stay? Hunter shares his thoughts on the topic. We would love to know your opinions on the matter too!

Does the ban list add value to the game or does it hamstring creativity and people’s preference of play?

Cards similar to Silverback Elder?

I’m building a Helga skittish seer deck. I have a signed artist proof. I have taken a long time to actually getting around to building it. It has some life gain stuff. It has some +1/+1 counter stuff.

Since she taps for mana for creatures i’ve been trying to utilize more creatures as removal spells. Silverback elder is amazing. Gain life. Ramp. Removal. But I’m struggling to find more cards in that same theme. I have druid of purification. And I have witches enchanter. And angel of the ruins.

I need some more help finding cards that are more similar to silverback elder.
I have generic removal like swords and pongify and naturalize but it’s less thematic than silverback elder. Just hopping to get some input from you all.

Cool stuff with flash too would work since I am using seedborn muse and intruder alarm currently. Bracket 3/4 area.

Betor, Ancestor's Voice

Hey Guys

As soon as [[Betor, Ancestor's Voice]] was spoiled I knew I was going to build him. Unfortunately it's been difficult to meet up with my pod lately so I haven't been able to test this deck as much as I would like so I'm hoping to get some thoughts/advice to see if there is anything I should be doing.

https://moxfield.com/decks/taUzazBkFkSLniCUNaXiAA

Some insights into my choices;

I have excluded Serra's Ascendant after a discussion about it with my pod

Sol Ring is treated as banned in my pod

Bloodbond combo has been excluded as I find it an unfun play pattern

Soul sisters I don't really have any interest in running as any life gain that doesn't happen on my turn doesn't do much for my gameplan

With this in mind, is there anything you would be doing differently with this list? I'd love to hear some thoughts :)

"Shiko and Narset, Unified" deck recommendations

Hi everyone! I've been playing Commander for about a year and started with the Tarkir precon "Shiko and Narset, Unified," which I'm very fond of. Over time, I've made several changes to the deck, but it still feels slow and inconsistent.

The game plan is clearly spellslinger, aiming to create tokens to power up with prowess effects and close with evasive, storm-like turns. Throughout all of this, the commander aims to be the deck's engine, contributing to the draw or doubling targets.

Archidekt: https://archidekt.com/decks/14880407/shiko_and_narset_unified

Here's the link to archidekt: Does it seem well-constructed? What substitutions would you make? Or would you rather build it completely differently?

Keep in mind that I'm aiming for a bracket 3 level, with cards no more than €20 each.

Thanks for your help!

Does this work how I think it works?

Does this just get copied repeatedly until either someone finally decides they don't want to copy it or there are no noncreature permanents left in play?

Junkyard Engine

So i want to build a deck that focuses on building up Omar here not really caring about the manifest. That said manifest cant be ignored so I want ways to get my cards back from my graveyard either back into my deck, back into my hand, or straight to the battlefield. Ideas?

Balancing The Beamtown Bullies

Hey,

I'm building a [[The Beamtown Bullies]] deck to play at bracket 3. My idea with this deck is to avoid playing cards that can instantly kill ([[Leveler]], [[Inverter of Truth]]) or completely cripple an opponent ([[Eater of Days]], [[Hellcarver Demon]]).

The goal is to fill my graveyard with powerful creatures to attack with like [[Pathrazer of Ulamog]] and either donate them and force them to attack opponents, or reanimate them myself (I have a few reanimation spells).

The idea is to push my opponents into fighting each other so I can take advantage. I've obviously included some "gifts" that will ultimately benefit me more than the other players like [[Boldwyr Heavyweights]] or [[Enslaved Horror]].

https://archidekt.com/decks/22626612/nice_bullies

I'd love some advice on a few things:

  1. I'm worried that, as it stands, my win conditions are fairly weak and that the deck will run out of steam.
  2. I originally built the deck in a less threatening, almost group hug-style way, which gave me hope that my commander wouldn't get focused. In its current configuration, do I need more protection for it?
  3. Also, by trying to avoid eliminating opponents too quickly, do I risk creating situations where the game becomes locked but drags on forever, which could end up being even more frustrating for the other players?
  4. I always struggle to balance core plan cards / ramp / removal so advices are welcome.

Thanks in advance!

Help me Choosing my next Artifact Commander

Hello everybody ,

I am incredibly undecided about which artifact commander I should next build, specifically I would be interested in building [[Golbez, Crystal Collector]] or [[Mendicant Core, Guidelight]]. I would like to know in your experience which commander you believe would be most resilient/ Have a higher power ceiling and overall better commander?

Thank you.

Is monocolored Vivid possible?

Because i dont own any bracket 1/2 EDH decks i thought what could be janky but fun? My idea is to build a multicolor matters deck with Vivid/Converge and to get the payoff with cards that summon multicolored tokens. Manasources would maybe be stuff like Exodic Orchard, Chromatic lantern, this kind of stuff. Do you have an idea for a commander that supports the theme? My first brainstorm resultet in something like [[Bennie Bracks, Zoologist]] for draw, [[Mastermind Plum]] to create Treasures and draw or maybe [[Splinter & Leo, Father & Son]] to have "two colors" in my command zone. What are your thoughts? I think it sounds pretty janky and fun and im open for every suggestion.

Jon good gifts

So i want to build [[jon irenicus]] but i dont want to give bad gifts away. Instead i am looking for creatures that the person who gets them can be happy about but that atbthe same time will harm me very little. A good example would be [[phyrexian obliterator]]. Nobody is going to complain about getting that and as long as i dont deal damage to it i have little to worry about. I am also fine with creature that harm opponents symmetricly. Any „when this attacks each opponent looses life“ kind of effect for example. I also habe a few [[hunted horror]] like option. Stuff thats just good at dealing damage to my opponents. Or [[master of the feast]] which doesnt harm the controller but benefits other which could create a fun dynamic where peple other than the controller try to keep it alive. I also got a bunch of unblockable guys.

Anyways does anybody have a cool idea for a creature? I aim for something in the bracket 2-3 range. So i am definitley looking for a bit suboptimal but very cool options

Damage over time deck?

I have always loved damage over time playstyles in games but haven’t been able to find a good fit in mtg. I would love something like the poison effect from silent in slay the spire. I was considering rad counters and effects that cause damage when milling cards or a deck that uses cards like Ichor rats to give all players a poison counter then proliferate that to 10 without using combat damage to speed it up.

I want a deck that I can play against precons and upgraded precons.

Are there other effects that fit this theme better? Here are a few other ideas I had that might have better legs than I thought:

- passive life gain with pieces that deal damage based on life gained.

-curse cards

- erriette of the enchanted apple with lots of auras on opponents creatures

- some form of aristocrats engine that allows for consistent damage each turn by sacrificing creatures to damage opponents

- mill/rad counters using effects to cause damage for milling

- flicker effects that work each turn with creatures that deal damage on etb/ltb

Thanks for the help

Help building Yurlok of Scorch Thrash

Hello all.

Looking to make a Yurlock deck, as his game plan seems to be quite unique. In making the deck, I am running into an issue. It seems very difficult to balance Yurlock to not be:

A. Pseudo-stax deck (which I know my group would not want to play into)

or

B. Winning your opponents the game (giving someone absurd amounts of mana)

Would greatly appreciate it if anyone could point me to a deck or suggest how to build to avoid this issue
