Flubs + Assault Suit theorycraft/primer

What up my nerds, I'm about to spill. Around a month ago I had an idea: [[flubs, the fool]] being passed around the table with [[assault suit]]. I love Flubs. I raced to build him when he first came out and was quickly disappointed with a janky group hug build, and I learned that if you're not going for Flubs's optimal storm solitaire playstyle he just kinda sucks. Since then, I've longed for a Temur group hug commander (and recently rejoiced for Zagorka) as well as a voltron commander, a strategy I've never tried to pull off before. And so it dawned on me: what if your opponents were the ones stuck with Flubs? With assault suit, it's like everyone has an [[oppression]] on the field during their turns.

The idea immediately struck me as too stupid to do, but I couldn't put it out of my head. I realized that [[fumble]]ing your decked-out Flubs when he's attacking you, like Lucifer betraying god, would be fucking hilarious. That [[vanishing]] to phase out Flubs in the face of danger means that he keeps whatever auras and equipment attached when he phases back in, even if he phased out under a now-dead opp's control. The thought of sending Flubs around the world equipped with [[fishing gear]] made me smile. And so, here's the current decklist: https://moxfield.com/decks/bNCjDeNbuUW_98GID5-O8w

I realize I'm not the first to put an assault suit on Flubs after a cursory Googling, and so I'm hoping that y'all could help me push this thing into bracket 3 somehow, which is where my meta typically plays. The current build is focused on making this terrible idea consistent in a few ways: some powerful Temur group hug and landfall cards, specific tutors for assault suit, as well as what I consider to be redundancy for assault suit: [[switcheroo]]s. Of course, we need a bunch of other stuff to actually win the game: voltron pieces, evasion, protection, and perhaps most importantly, goad, because assault suit doesn't say anything about requiring your opps to attack, an oversight fixed with [[slicer, hired muscle]] and [[alexios, deimos of kosmos]]. But those guys aren't cute frogs.

Goad: [[renegade silent]], [[spectacular showdown]], [[disrupt decorum]], [[illusionist's gambit]], [[the sound of drums]] and [[shiny impetus]] are self-explanatory. I'm also using [[coveted jewel]] and monarch cards like [[court of garenbrig]] and [[court of vantress]] as further combat incentives.

Voltron: [[argentum armor]], [[excalibur, sword of eden]], [[blackblade reforged]], [[buster sword]] and [[strong back]] should make our frog a killer as well as a killer cosplayer, especially with evasion pieces like [[brotherhood regalia]], [[aqueous form]], and [[canopy cover]]. [[bristly bill]] is a bit too expensive, so I'm hoping [[necklace of girion]] and [[earthbender ascension]] can offer some consistent buffs while offering a little ramp.

Group hug: just in case an opp is playing cheerios, this is how we're making sure Flubs is bad for everyone. [[horn of greed]], [[faerie mastermind]], [[howling mine]] and [[minds aglow]] can hopefully keep hands full and discardable, but at time of writing I worry I could want more hug pieces.

Perhaps Cuttable Fun Stuff: [[perplexing chimera]] - we're already playing [[homeward path]] for a renegade Flubs, why not perplex everyone while we're at it? [[aethersnatch]] is my favorite card of all time (because it's potentially every card), but in this deck, we're happy to offer switcheroos, so we're trying [[sudden substitution]] here. [[Ghost vacuum]] is here because, aside from wanting to try it in a deck forever, theoretically Flubs should be having our opps discarding awesome creatures. [[dragonback assault]] is just awesome and i'm glad to finally have a Temur deck to try it. Finally, [[doppelgang]] is how I'm justifying [[mana flare]], an insane group hug piece. [[cold-eyed selkie]] is a potential Flubstitute. Speaking of which, I'm waiting on my copy of [[bilbo, luckwearer]] to come in the mail because it does many things Flubs wants to do.

Much needed Fun Stuff: [[exchange of words]], [[puca's mischief]], [[shifting grift]], [[role reversal]] play important parts as both other ways to give away Flubs and also interaction.

I'm actually about to head to the LGS to give this a go, so I'll wrap it up with some notable exclusions: [[wrong turn]] should probably be in the deck, and [[ivy, gleeful spellthief]] would probably be awesome if I could squeeze a few more auras in here.

Anyway, that's what I've got so far. What would you do with this deck, aside from burn it? Thank you!

Maular deck brainstorm

Hi all! As I’m sure a lot of us are, I’m very excited to build a Maular deck 🦖

But while I’ve figured out which rulebreaker creatures I’d like to include, I’m struggling to figure out which mono-green cards to fill out the deck.

If anyone has any thoughts or suggestions I’d love to hear them, thanks!

Building Niv Mizzet, Visionary for Bracket 3: Even Worth Attempting?

I got the itch to play a commander that draws a lot of cards and I found [[Niv Mizzet, Visionary]], who I thought looked sick. Like 95% of my games are played in B3.

However, upon playtesting some decks online that are labeled as B3 with Niv, it feels like you cast him and either maybe storm off for the win the same turn or definitely storm off for the win the next turn if he is allowed to stick around.

It kind of just feels like if he's built with any level of competent synergy at all then the deck will be too strong for Bracket 3. Am I wrong about that, and if not, what is a good bracket 3 commander that draws a ton of cards?

How would you upgrade/Build Disa, the Restless?

It just feels like I have to go through so many hoops to make her work since she doesn't interact with an already established graveyard and I need to have cards like ashes of the falled and maskwood nexus in play. How do I this consistently?

Kalamax, Your an angry wizard!

I want to build a Janky Voltron Kalamax deck. Spellslinger Equipment/Aura's for the instant spells that buff Kalamax for when he swings at the opponents he deals a gigaton damage. The rest of the creatures would probably follow spellslinger but to buff him as much as possible. Any card reccomendations?

I wanna stick between $100 to $200 max budget.

Help with Kotis, the fangkeeper

I'm building a Kotis deck, the archetype is Voltron which I think is the most efficient for him. I want to buff kotis up to like an 8 or 10 but not too much since I want to play with my opponents' cards more that's why I added [[Strionic Resonator]] and soon I'll add [[Felix Five-Boots]] and [[Echo, Perceptive Prodigy]].

I've had a few test plays and what I can say is that he is really fun to play but I find myself flooding with lands and I don't think I have that much draw (or I'm just really unlucky). It's also really hard to counter against edict effects though I do have counterspells but I don't want to dilute the deck with those. It's also hard when they out-combat damage me with things like unblockable or menace (but I think this is the least of my problems since I can just cast their creatures).

Since he is a theft commander I wonder if he can scale with the pod's power levels and I can play him on at least a bracket 4 even with a build of a bracket 2 or 3 (I doubt). I try to keep the deck on a budget at least around $100 maybe $150, and as much as possible I try to avoid game changers.

Any help with the deck will do and I would gladly read and appreciate all of your comments, thanks a bunch!

Which Skeleton commander should I build around?

I really wanna build a good Skeleton tribal commander which would include Tinybones and Titanbones cards (so it would need to have atleast black and green).

Should I run Sylvan Library in Chulane cEDH?

I want to get more cards early in the game, and I'm unsure whether I should use Sylvan Library specifically because the card itself is so-so, using up a lot of resources (HP) for minimal benefit. Am I wrong?

Here's my decklist, I'm looking for any advice other than this:

Iroh, Dragon of the West

Hey, everyone. I thought about building Iroh in a bit of a different way. The theme of the deck is basically "Uncle Iroh teaches goblins how to play with fire". Basically, I want to get enough goblins or other small creatures so that I can generate a lot of mana during combat through firebending and then cast big X spells, or repeatable firebreathing/other effects. Goblins seem like a fun way of doing it.

However, while starting the brew I noticed that I would need Iroh on the board for at least 2 turns before amassing firebending mana, since it only gives counters when it attacks, while it gives firebending only on the beginning of combat.

So, I'm looking for cards that might accelerate this. The problem is that Iroh is monored, and it is difficult to give a large amount of counters in the color. So I want to ask if any of you know of any ways around this.

Right now the only card that I found that would solve the problem somewhat would be [[Duchess, Wayward Tavernkeep]], since Iroh doesnt care which type of counter is on the creature. I tried scryfall but no luck, and the tagger didn't help me a lot too. Do you have any suggestions?

First ever deck opinions

I got into Magic with the release of the final fantasy set. I bought a few bits and pieces here and there and got busy with other life stuff but I've just this last month started REALLY getting back into it. I built a deck with the rule of only Final Fantasy set cards and reprints. This is what I have so far, suggestions are welcome and appreciated!

Arcane Signet and Frodo and Sam

Hello, I’d like to get your opinion regarding Arcane Signet and the commanders Frodo and Sam, who have a 2 and 3 CMC, respectively.
The issue I see is that Arcane Signet costs two mana. Since I absolutely want to play Frodo on turn 2 and Sam on turn 3, Arcane Signet becomes difficult to fit in, unless I have Sol Ring on turn 1, allowing me to play Arcane Signet on turn 1 as well.

Would you cut Arcane Signet to fit in one of the one-mana Elf mana dorks instead?

Here is my deck : https://archidekt.com/decks/20486261/sam\_frodo

Deck upgrade teval commander format

Looking to upgrade my teval deck. I have a budget of around 200$-250$. I've seen a couple of YouTube videos already but I would like to see if I can get opinions from other people that have played the same commander. I for sure know I need to upgrade my mana pool but id like advice with that too. Thank you in advance.

Jandor, Fortuned Traveller - Two ways: Bracket 3 and "Budget" Bracket 2

I recently threw together a [[Jandor, Fortuned Traveller]] list intended for bracket 2, but got excited about [[Aggravated Assault]] shenanigans and ended up making something closer to a low/mid tier bracket 3.

I got a couple games in with some friends online and turns out the deck is pretty fun. I was concerned about the balance of non-mount Camels/Horses/Elephants/Beasts/Wolves to Mounts/Riders, but it worked out pretty well. I leaned more into the commander to get saddle-able creatures and tried to include numerous generically strong creatures with a solid supporting cast.

The strategy is pretty vulnerable, so I may add some extra protection to the B3 list. However, the card advantage can get pretty staggering even with just a handful of saddled attackers.

VIPs so far have been Academy Rector (edit: meant Academy Manufactor...) / [[Bilbo, Fellow Conspirator]] creating treasure tokens, [[Kolodin, Triumph Caster]] giving your team haste/saddled and [[Guardian Sunmare]] hitting pretty much every major permanent in your deck, like the aforementioned Aggravated Assault/Rector/Bilbo as well as cards like [[Mirror Entity]], [[Adept Watershaper]] and [[Nuka-Cola Vending Machine]].

Overall the deck was fun to brew and play BUT I really wanted a more Bracket 2 friendly version of the deck to play with newer players/precon pods, so I made a version with a lot of swaps on the expensive lands and heavy hitters, like [[Craterhoof Behemoth]].

Here are the lists.

Bracket 3:

Help with Halvar, God of Battle

Was looking around for Viking commanders and this guy caught my eye above the rest. Now I'm asking for help on building him, from what I see most people use him as a Voltron and, while I'm not opposed to the idea because I like Voltrons, I was thinking about his first line and the Job Select/For Mirrodin Equipment cards suddenly came to mind.

https://archidekt.com/decks/25445770/halvars\_job\_applications

Made this beta deck list but it's quite expensive and I'm not sure if it's good, asking for any help or ideas! The theme is arranging a wide board of Equipped Creatures that are buffed by different things such as Halvar's Double Strike, and with a secondary strat to go Voltron if the creatures do end up getting wiped with a bunch of equipment lying around.

Help and opinions wanted as well as any way to reduce the budget, tyty!

Should I build this? Seems kind of boring

Just pulled this from my pre-release at home kit. Worth like 50$ trade in value at my LGS.

Other option is to put it in my Ureni Unwritten deck.

Played against it already on arena a few times already both in standard and brawl just seems annoying, obviously super powerful but just a removal magnet and I think the rest of the deck would just be about creating treasures.

Searching for weird Stax and Hate Pieces

I want to build an [[ Atraxa, Praetors Voice ]] deck (or maybe the other one but doesn't really matter.), which contains mostly weirdly specific hate or Stax pieces.

Something along the line of [[ blue elemental blast ]] or [[ Circle or Protection: Blue ]] (and the other circles).

It doesn't need to be hate on specific colours, but also certain keywords or tribals types.

Let me know what you find!
