If you eat too much fermented fruit or berries, your animal will start stumbling around and the screen will get very trippy and blurry

Why do these trees have to be so poisonous or yucky to all the herbivores in the game including the Columbian mammoth?!

How come this tree and it’s fruits on the ground are so poisonous and yucky to all herbivores including Columbian mammoths in the game well all the other vegetation in the game still remains edible and good enough to eat for all Ice Age herbivores in Ecos: La Brea and could these trees become more edible to all the herbivores including mammoths in this game?!

「 𝐅𝐀𝐓𝐀𝐋𝐈𝐒 𝐂𝐎𝐍𝐒𝐄𝐑𝐕𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍 」

A BRAND NEW Smilodon fatalis Hyper-Realism Community for ECOS: La Brea

Fatalis Conservation is dedicated to creating a scientifically grounded, hyper-realistic Smilodon fatalis experience that explores what life as a saber could have actually looked like.

Our guides are built around fossil evidence and scientific research, filling in what we don't know with carefully selected behaviours from modern big cats such as tigers, jaguars, and clouded leopards. Rather than forcing sabers into prides or constant combat, we encourage independent behaviour, family dynamics, temporary groups, realistic courtship, dispersal, ambush hunting, survival, injury, and much more.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ ⊱ ✧ ⊰ ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

WHAT WE OFFER
Research-based Smilodon behaviour
Hyper-realistic sessions
Solitary, familial & small-group gameplay
Detailed life stages & dispersal
Realistic courtship & parenting
Ambush hunting & feeding behaviour
Optional injuries, illnesses & long-term consequences
Fair and survival-focused combat
Individual profiles, diaries & documentation
Room for creativity where science leaves gaps!

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ ⊱ ✧ ⊰ ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Our realism isn't about making gameplay miserable or restrictive. It's about giving you more to do.

Your saber can adapt to its environment, develop relationships, survive injuries, raise offspring, compete for resources, change its activity around prey and experience an actual life rather than repeating the same behaviours every session.

Survival comes first. Realism shapes the rest.

Hunting herons

Caught another heron today with a friend and managed to record it if you kinda wanna see what we did. Sorry about the awful quality lol. We've had a very high success rate with two of us. One spooks one predicts where it will fly and catches it.

My predictions for the quests to unlock the new playables

The Pleistocene coyote and Haringtonhippus are right around the corner so here is what I think their special quest/mission will be to unlock them

Coyote:

  1. It is free (You can play it immediately after release just like the horse and direwolf) so there will be a trio of free playables, one herbivore ,one carnivore and one omnivore

Or

  1. You need to scavenge from a tar pit carcass to unlock the coyote

Haringtonhippus

  1. You get it with tracks as I think the devs have said that there will be playables unlocked with tracks.
    Or
  2. I don’t really have a great idea for an unlocking quest but perhaps you need to eat 10 different species of plant with a western horse
    Or
  3. Maybe you can also play it immediately after release or there will be a totally new quest like the fossils with the mammoth.

These are just my ideas, what do you think of them, and do you have anything better to suggest?

why does every saber ringskip nowadays?

before i go into my rant i would like to say that i do not have anything against saber mains, i play as a saber myself quite frequently, though i do main the horse more.

i understand that some do it out of desparation(starving, needing to eat. I'll take ggs to that), but most ringskip just to kos or be a nuisance🫩

in the past, it was alright. it wasn't as often. nowadays though? every saber I've encountered has ringskipped me as a horse😭 in a MEGAPACK😭 WHEN I WAS A LONE😭 even when i was wearing a default skin while they have the ones that you need to earn tracks for. if they do the ringgame normally at the start, then get bucked off, they js give up and ringskip🫩

the fact that its the knowledgeable players who do it, too. like, come on. you're embarassing yourself.

the fact that when you DO start to ringskip back its already too late cuz horses have a small amount of time to react. and the sabers have the audacity to be mad and call you a ringskipper after that😭 you're dead meat if you miss at least ONE ring in the ringgame.(except the first one)

does anyone have advice how to counter it? i dont want to constantly ringskip just out of fear of getting jumped by a ringskipper, but I'm starting to think i might as well just start doing that.

if any of you come after me, i 80% of the times land perfects on my rings, as a mobile player.

sorry if i worded some words incorrectly, english is not my main language

(photo's not mine! i took it from pinterest so i can't credit the og, sorry)

Has anyone ever caught the Great blue heron?

Recently the Great blue heron was added to Ecos La Brea as an ai animal meant as a new prey item as you also get tracks for killing them. However I have never seen any player on Reddit, YouTube or TikTok actually catch one. Also you can’t scent them in any way and they are usually very well hidden (Technically you can’t with vultures but they frequent carcasses which you can scent). Has anyone of you actually caught one or is there some sort of strategy to hunt them efficiently? I like that they added a new ai animal to enrich the ecosystem but I’m not sure if it’s even huntable like intended. Maybe you will be able to catch them easier with the coyote when it comes out. What do you think of the heron though?

Could smaller carnivores be added to the roster?

It appears that P. atrox and the Jaguar are not going to be added to the game. The former is too similar to the S. fatalis, and some claim the latter is too. Someone also wrote on here that little evidence has been found of Jaguars actually being frequent in Rancho La Brea too.

Also, the game's had serious issues with psychotic carnivore players, so maybe it's for the best that focus should be placed squarely on herbivores for now. But, I do believe that some smaller predators could be added to the game, ones that are too small to be a genuine threat to herbivore players.

I've been wondering if the American Badger could be added to the roster. I believe it was present in the area. Rancho La Brea Badgers were also quite a bit bigger and more robust than modern American Badgers: https://gsa.confex.com/gsa/2020CD/webprogram/Paper345997.html

It hunts rodents, birds, and small reptiles. It also has some omnivore tendencies too, but it is primarily a predatory carnivore. It also forages on insects and grubs. Some good mechanics could be made for the badger, such as raiding bird nests and digging for grubs and small mammals. Rancho La Brea had a diverse array of rodents for the Badger to hunt, like Gophers, Ground Squirrels, Voles. They also frequently hunt moles, which were also present at La Brea.

American Badgers are also very proficient and powerful burrowers. They've been recording digging through concrete and asphalt apparently. They are built for burrowing. They spend most of their time underground, constructing their own burrows or raiding the burrows of rodent prey. Their burrows are expansive and can be spread out along their home range.

In the game, they could be given a burrowing mechanic like Paramylodon. Digging large tunnel systems to hunt subterranean prey and den. The devs could start adding mole Hills, Gopher and Ground Hog burrows around the map for Badger players to raid, and bigger carnivores (like Dire Wolves and Coyotes) to raid as well.

Another small carnivore that could be added is the Bobcat. It could function as a stealth and agility-based playable that hunts small NPCs like the Brush Rabbit and Dwarf Pronghorns, as well as birds and possible rodent npcs.

Players would need to be stealthy and conceal themselves to avoid conflict with bigger carnivores. Bobcats are also proficient climbers, so this would allow players to scale trees that Smilodon (and Black Bears) cannot. This would allow players to rest safely and survey their surroundings. Bobcat players could also make usage of rodent or Badger burrows too.

The Puma could be a possible option. But I think it would be too similar to the Miracinonyx, which was a lot more similar to it in build and lifestyle than previously thought, I believe.

Playable suggestion: California tapir

I know that this guy is very unlikely to be added because of how slow playable releases are and that there are more important animals to be added to ecos la brea (like arctodus ,miracinonyx and ground sloths) but I would personally love to see this guy one day in game.

Tapirs are perissodactyl ungulates, closely related to horses and rhinos. Today they only live in South America nad Southeast Asia but up until about 13.000 years ago, they also lived in North America. More specifically the California tapir which lived in California and Arizona during the Pleistocene. Unlike other species from the tar pits though, California tapirs are only known from the locality from one foot bone and some jaw and tooth fragments. But the also rare stilt legged horse will be added ,so here is how I think the California tapirs will function in game:

To unlock it, it’s pretty easy. You only have to collect/find 10 seashells from the beach and river banks (seashells will be very common)

With them, there will be an oxygen mechanic where the tapir can hold its breath for a very long time, underwater. (Image 4)

The tapir will be semi aquatic with the ability to dive, eat aquatic plants that only it has access to (It can also eat the regular grass and bushes though). On land, they will be relatively fast but underwater, they will be able to go 3 to 4 times faster than they can on land and will be almost as fast as a western horse underwater, escaping from direwolves and smilodons.

They will frequent areas like Centinela springs, Los Angeles river, Tule Marsh, Santa Monica bay and in general wetlands, rivers and water habitats.

They will be either solitary or in small to medium size groups (But they can end up pretty big)

Finally the skins: Image 1 default
Image 2 montane 300 or 500 tracks
Image 3 Malayan 3000 tracks

That’s all, what do you think?

More tar pit functions

Imma Just vus straight to the case, not intros needed. Kossing has been a big problem, especially for players who just wanna play on public servers and be able to pass rancho without being caught up in a battlefield between sabers, mammoths, bison, npc horses and dire wolves getting bullied. Although it has been cut down a lot thanks to multiple rancho updates you still see many players camping around that area. The main reasons that drove peoel away from rancho was the smaller chance of carcasses spawning, more puts to become trapped in, harder to get tracks for scavenging and more interesting places in the map to explore.

Ik this already been discussed before but people said toxic fumes in the area. Although that sounds good it's not realistic, methane gasses we're more potent directly near the tar surface not the surrounding area. I feel LIEK fumes coudk still be implemented but just closer to the pits.

Another idea is the water being polluted because of the gases and tar toxins. Whenever you drink water in the outs you may get poisoned depending on how much you drink. This could help players from being able to constantly lie in rancho and instead travel further away for safe water.

Thirdly, in real life in tar pits when in one whether your moving or not you start sinking, you sink faster when moving but you still sink nonetheless. This coudk make the tar pits more interesting.

Forthly yra pits in cold seasons/night are harder or rubberier (idk if a real word) meaning you can stand on some areas and sink slower in the few soft areas at night or winter. In summer the tar almost instantly sinks you.

Since the main large pit in rancho is based off lake pit at the real modern la brea tar pits, I feel LIEK the tar there (or at least in the center) shoudk be deeper compared to most tar pit locations on the map. Before yall start scremain at em that most puts are shallow, some areas or puts can be deep possibly deeper than a human.

Idea no. *%£? #=) @

While an animal dies it slowly sinks before it actually rots away. It sinks very un noticeably BTW.

Idea no 67

Flies from dead bodies coudk attack players that stay too long(as u can see im getting lazier the more ideas I type)

Idea no 4200

More tar pit areas coudk be cool, I've already sicussed in previous posts about a secret area in grassland south eats fo bear trap cave, but it's kinda hard to find and also i feel LIEK one near ballona creek and weschuster bluff coudk be cool as its near somewhere you can remember and pass by and it's in a low lying area like irl.

Finally one complaint, I feel LIEK the way mammoths does in tar pits in the game is lowk goofy (their pose) first of all, they defy gravity often their legs barely touch the surface of the tar and they look LIEK they have a bad chiropractors. They don't even have a full sleeping animation.

Finall part 2 I wish npc animals coudk wander into tar pits, larger animals LIEK peccary would sink a bit while small animals LIEK bunnies and birds woudk rest on the surface LIEK a flytrap.

That's all, I promise but what do you guys think. To some kossers this may just soudn LIEK a dyslexic Karen ranting on abt random stuff but for peop who actually wanna hva efun please giev feedback. Don't be rude to ecag other in comments and guev feedback for my post. Sorry for 1000 typos😭💀🙏 it's 1 am rn😴

Here's oen thing I forgit to say. I took inspiration from another post but it was also partly my idea too, being able to struggle while in atr woudk be very interesting and look good and sometimes while partly sank in tar you coeidl pull free and escape. This is the part I took from another post (they linked in comments) mayne yiu could struggle but it wears down your stamina idk.

When standing in tar for too long and not resting you would collapse

💡Grandes felino: emotes, lutas e cicatrizes

- Afiar as garras e urinar: seriam usados para marcar território;
- Afagar: importante para fortalecer os laços familiares do gurpo;
