Beauty supply stores

What beauty supply stores do you guys recommend in Rogers Park or Edgewater? My hometown had a Sally Beauty a 5 minute drive from my house. I would buy all my hair dye supplies from there for an affordable price.

Is anyone else being driven mad by leaf blowers on their block?

It's like every single maintaince person for every building on my block had a meeting and decided that as a collective they need to stand outside and leaf blow at nothing every. single. day. I was woken up today at 7am and they're STILL going as of 10am. I have loop earplugs in and noise canceling headphones over that and I can still hear them. With fall approaching I'm afraid one day I'm just going to fucking snap and snatch a leaf blower out of someone's hands and blow it in their face until their lips flap around while screaming "HAVE YOU EVER HEARD OF A RAKE?!?"

It doesn't help that I've had a migraine on and off since July but holy hell I am at my limit.

Rehab dilapidated Glenwood Ave brick pavement?

The brick pavement of Glenwood Ave appears to have not been properly repaired in decades. The only patches are concrete and asphalt.

Am I the only one who would like to see a rehabilitation of this street with new blocks? I feel like a lot of the reason this failed as a car-free space was the absolute state of the pavement being a jacked up and a safety hazard. Just me?

Just wanted to say thank you + a quick dev update on my litter-picking app! 🌍

Hey everyone.

I just wanted to take a second to pause and post a quick update on Litter Troopers.

When I first started coding this app to turn picking up neighborhood trash into a turf war, I honestly had no idea if anyone else would actually want to use it. Fast forward to today, and we actually have a solid, growing crew of beta testers out there logging their hauls and turning the map green.

It’s been a wild development journey trying to build this solo. Between getting the native Android and iOS apps running at the same time, we've definitely run into our fair share of weird bugs here and there. But honestly, figuring them out and seeing you guys use my code to clean up your actual streets makes all the late-night debugging totally worth it.

I just wanted to say a massive thank you to everyone who has downloaded the beta, reported a bug, or just given me some encouragement. You guys keep me motivated to keep building.

I attached a few screenshots of how the app is looking right now! (I'll drop the beta links in the comments as usual if anyone new wants to jump in and help us test).

Grab a bag and let's clear the board! 🧹🪲

Please recommend a place to shoot pool

I’m looking for a place to have a beer (ok beers) and shoot some pool. I prefer a table with pockets as opposed to a ball return where the cue ball is weighted differently and goes to a different location than the colored balls.

Ideally looking for something nearby but open to someplace easy to get to by public transportation. Bonus if it’s a sports bar or gay friendly.

Please drop your recommendations. I’m relatively new to the neighborhood.

RIP to my favorite tree in Chicago 💔

Honestly so sad. I hate seeing fallen trees but this one really killed me when I saw it. Especially after one of the main branches broke off a couple years ago. I felt like I had some sort of spiritual connection to this tree in Loyola Park, as I’m sure at least a few others did as well. I’d often see people staring up in awe at its canopy. What a tragic loss.

Shout out to the 400

Honestly it’s just nice to have a movie theater back in the neighborhood. I can’t wait for them to expand their programming and spruce up. I’m sure these first couple weeks have been hectic, opening/reopening a business always is, but I’ve had great experiences so far.

Medians on Broadway

Can anyone explain why the several pedestrian islands built along Broadway (roughly from Granville to Bryn Mawr) haven’t been completed yet?

The islands themselves appear finished but a cutout in the road hasn’t been filled and leveled for over a month and the merge signage remains both ways, clogging traffic in these areas.

I’m no engineer so can someone explain why this job hasn’t been wrapped up by now?

Any info about this antique shop? What are the working hours?

I was passing by this antique store (the screenshot is from Google Maps which is not updated yet) and was trying to find open hours/ or any info and absolutely nothing is displayed on windows. I went back a different time and it was still locked and no one inside.

It currently has some really beautiful antique furniture and other interesting things, which you can see through the windows.

Anyone knows if this shop is ever open? Any info?

The cross streets are Broadway and Granville, across from Ann Sather.

Cooking classes

My new job requires I sometimes make simple meals but I am terrible at cooking. Does anyone here know a place I can go to for some lessons?
