Makes you fluent made me realize how different Portuguese sounds in actual conversations
I am from Naperville, but my family is from Lisbon, so I get over there every now and then. I have been spending more time with Portuguese lately, and one thing that keeps catching me out is how different it can sound when people are actually talking compared with what I hear in lessons or see written down.
I can read something slowly and understand it just fine, then hear someone say basically the same thing and suddenly I am trying to figure out where half the sounds went 😂
It is especially noticeable when people are talking quickly. Words run together, sounds get softer, and things that look really straightforward on paper can sound completely different when someone says them naturally.
I have started paying more attention to that, rather than assuming I just need to learn more words.
If you are from Portugal, what are some things about everyday pronunciation that you took for granted but seem to throw learners off? I am especially interested in the little things you hear all the time but rarely see explained.
