Looking at purchasing this van. It is in good clean condition. Good maintenance records. Dealer is asking 25K. What would you pay for it?

1993 vs 2000 Eurovan?

Hello, camper community.

I’m a touring musician and rock climber looking to get an awesome camper van to take adventuring. Right now I have 2 possible Eurovans near me and I’m trying to decide which is better. Help!

Option 1: 1993 automatic with pop top, 160k miles, timing belt, axle boots, and shocks replaced. $10.5k

Option 2: 2000 automatic, NO pop top, 170k miles, needs shocks replaced (quoted $1400 for all 4). They’re asking $14k but may be willing to budge there.

I REALLY want a pop top and would prefer to stay under $11k so I’m leaning towards the ‘93, but wondering if the year makes that significant of a difference with finding parts to fix potential transmission issues down the line, as they’re both automatics. Would also be down to swap the ‘93 to a manual transmission if it goes, which I’ve heard is easier than finding a replacement.

Any advice is helpful!

Labor rate

What is the typical labor rate for a mechanic to work on a Eurovan? I just took my van to a shop and they were saying it’ll be 250 an hour to work on it. For context I’m in the Midwest, specifically Michigan.

Forgot to mention that I would be supplying all the parts for the jobs I want done. Could this also be a reason the labor rate is so high?

Edit: wanted to add the quotes for labor that were given to me for the jobs I want done.

Transmission cooler: 700
Upgrade thermostat housing, main coolant distribution pipe, water pumps: 1800
Timing chain: 6000

Do these quotes seem outrageous or in line with what other people have received?

Question regarding 1995 EVC transmission

My 95 Eurovan works great except when it is hot out. Then the PRNDL indicator either goes blank and we enter limp home mode or all the characters are black rather than just the selected gear. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Eurovan's first road trip

Took my eurovan for her first ever road trip and my first ever too, tbh. It went very well, we went about halfway across the country and back. She'll be on her way to Yellowstone in about a week, and while I don't have anything planned after that rn, the next adventure always awaits. Also some of my friends had doubts about her ability to make it so I'd like to point out that on top of travelling that far, she also made it up a mountain...
