The pilot is a masterpiece

Was watching tubi and this show autoplayed and was reminded at how well it sets up the dynamic between the family and the consistency throughout its 4 seasons mostly. The first episode happens to have a lot of what I mostly remember from the show as well, it’s just an iconic piece of television that manages to establish the unfairness of a middle child and working class at the time, all while having touching moments that redeem each character. I felt like making this post after years of resenting julius and rochelle but their parenting seems the most focused in this pilot. Just wanted to give flowers to a show I remember loving during it’s Nick at Nite re-runs.

Should I start watching the show?

I just finished watching Young Sheldon for the first time and was looking for shows similar. Everybody hates Chris came to mind and I was wondering if it’s worth watching.

Thoughts?

I started watching "Everybody Hates Chris" a month ago and I'm almost done with season 3 (I have nothing else to do since I'm on vacation and have just been bed rotting and binge watching shows) I like the show but it also feels like rage bait 80% of the time. Tonya is insufferable sometimes with how she's always trying to get everyone (except herself) in trouble and especially chris deliberately. The parents are obviously biased towards the kids and everytime I think Caruso might have a redemption arc or be nice for ONCE!! He goes back to being an assh*le. I get it that Chris didn't have the best life hence the show being called "Everybody Hates Chris" but i expected him to have good luck at least once. I'm still trying to finish it but idk if I'll continue onto season 4, it's getting a bit boring with how he's always getting into some sort of trouble and never has good stuff happen to him. I also don't like Ms. Morello idk why, she seems like she loves black people but also insults them in a sweet way?

Tonya isn't as bad as People make her out to be

Okay so I know this is an absolute scathing take but hear me out. Most of people's issues with Tonya are her entitlement, her brattiness, and how much of a snitch she is. I have a little sister, and can testify that the show's depiction is pretty accurate. Since she's the youngest, she's coddled by her parents and thus feels the need to suck up to them by ratting out her siblings. My little sister was DEFINITELY like this. Including the lying: "She hit meeee" (I most definitely DID NOT.) She grew out of it once she wasnt 10 years old anymore. Little kids LIE. And they lie A LOT. Especially when they're scared of their mother who once SHOVED A SHOE up Chris's ass for being disrespectful. Her behavior is more of a result of Rochelle and Julius's parenting. There still are quite a few episodes where Tonya gets her ass beat though. Even when Tonya does try to pin something on someone else, she always ends up confessing to what she did. One of the most wholesome scenes for me was when Julius asked her if she knew where his quarters were, and she instantly replies that she was taking 1 coin from each roll to form a new roll to make him happy. (9 year old logic, but still cute). Even when he tries letting her keep it she still insists on "gifting" it to him. The main issue is how Chris is treated in comparison to her, for example not getting presents when Tonya and Drew do. This, again, is Rochelle and Julius's fault and not directly hers.

TLDR: Tonya is an annoying younger sibling but isn't THAT terrible. She lies because she's 9 and doesn't want to get physically harmed by her mother and rats out her siblings for an extra layer of protection. I'm willing to wager that if Rochelle weren't so aggressive with her punishments Tonya wouldn't lie as much.
