Bad Experience at Xanterra
I got here a week ago at Yellowstone and my experience has been up and down so far. When I arrived on my first day of work nobody knew that I was coming in so I got sent home and told to come back later that night. Once I came back my manager was confused on whether I should start training or not due to a coworker calling out and they were about to send me home again and wanted me to come back at 9:30pm. As I'm sitting in the office waiting for directions they are bad mouthing the coworker to me. After a while my manager thought about it and had me start training at 6:30pm. Training was cool but there was a lot to take in. I took that day as a fluke and looked forward to the next night.
Due to my coworker putting in her notice and leaving, my boss didn't bank on her coming in for the night shift so she asked somebody else to be on the night shift with me for my second night. I wasn't being trained that night since my trainer had off. The girl that was scheduled never showed me how to check people in or out and would disappear at times when I needed her. I had to read out of a notebook that night just to try to do my job. It bothered me since I'm brand new and it put a bad taste into my mouth. I felt like I was being thrown to the wolves for the entire 10 hours.
The next day I called out due to some family issues going on and told my manager that the position isn't a good fit and I want to be moved to a different department within the location. I would be the only overnight person versus all 3 managers and 10 employees working daytime while my shift should have 2 or 3 people on it. My manager said "well, I don't think I should have you come in if you don't want to be here" and didn't let me come in to work that night. I went to HR to get the paperwork and have gone to housekeeping to talk to them about switching and they want my current manager to fill out my sheet. No problem but my current manager is now giving me the run around since she knows that I want to switch departments. She barely answers my texts when I ask her if she needs me to come in on my shifts. I am not opposed to finishing out my shifts SHE isn't letting me come in on my scheduled shifts now.
Since I've gotten here I have learned about deaths on the property, having to share a bathroom between 4 women, poor management, low pay, asbestos in our dorms, racism, multiple lawsuits, leaving people stranded, and that if we want to leave before our agreed upon end date that we have to find a way out of Yellowstone. Right now due to all of the run around I am setting myself up to leave just in case management lies and housing shows up at my door.
Is there any advice somebody can give me?
