Trans representation in roles where the character either isn't trans, or their trans identity has nothing to do with the role

So basically trans actresses or actors in roles where the character is either not trans, or where their trans identity is never specified and plays no role in the plot.

Anna in Together Together: This character, played by trans actress Patti Harrison, is specifically a cisgender woman role as she plays a young woman hired as a gestational surrogate

Tracey in Hustlers: Trans actress Trace Lysette was cast in the role in part because the events of the movie were based on a club that she previously had danced at (she wasn't there for the actual criminal events of the movie, but the same club). Her role in the movie has nothing to do with her being trans, and is never mentioned. Quote from actress: "We didn't discuss [the character's gender] at all, and I think that's fine, because when I worked in the club, I didn't discuss it at all in real life. The character isn't specifically trans, so it's up to the audience to determine whatever they want about Tracey."

Besides Idiocracy, what movie best captures the modern political condition?

I give it to In The Loop. It came to me just now watching this coverage of State Sec Rubio lying to US Congress about Trump sleeping in meetings.

This exchange literally belongs exactly as is in In The Loop. It match-cuts to bureaucratic meetings filled with intellectual bad faith like this one.

What Other Film Podcasts Do You Guys Listen To?

Aside from FPS I used to listen to 'Kermode & Mayo', (the official BBC film review) every week. Shoutout to any other UK listeners… and Jason Isaacs. Kermode has a PhD in film and has a crazy range for film knowledge and references, he's a certified oldhead. Good banter between hosts.

I would also recommend 'Eli Roth’s History of Horror' for some great conversations with modern directors.

'Films To Be Buried With with Brett Goldstein' has a fun interview style. Discussing personal attachments to different films with directors, actors, comedians etc.

Screenshot is another interesting Kermode pod, hosts track the history of a certain theme for 1 hour throughout film (eps on Vampires, Death, Yuppies etc.).

What y'all got?

App to help movie going experience

I’m currently listening to the I Love Boosters review and got to the part where Rod talked about the end credits scene and Myke didn’t know about it.

I tell people about this app called Run Pee. It tells you the best time in the movie to go to the bathroom and what you miss during that time. It also tells you if there are mid credit and post credit scenes.

Backrooms are a clear allegory for AI

The Backrooms are an allegory tor generative AI. I know Kane dismissed something about the backrooms being an "AI simulation" but that isn't what Im talking about. I mean from an artistic standpoint theres multiple pieces of evidence that allude to the backrooms being representative of generative AI.

  1. The backrooms copies a real life location repeatedly until everything displays a yellowish tint.

  2. Clark, whose life is slowly deteriorating, uses the backrooms as a crutch and develops psychosis because of it.

  3. It's pretty on the nose that the Still Life's are inspired by AI replications of humans.

  4. The backrooms literally syphons power and raises Clarks electric bill.

Im sure theres more, but overall I think theres a lot of intention in displaying the backrooms this way.
