Busking tips

I was recently approved for a busking license in my city and plan to spend the summer doing face painting and balloon twisting in busy parks and other approved busking locations. Most of my experience so far has been through private bookings, so I’m new to the busking side of things and would love some advice from people with experience.

What are the best ways to attract customers, choose good spots, price services, and make the most of your time? Any tips on setup, signage, handling busy periods, or maximizing earnings would be really appreciated. I’m hoping to save as much as possible for university this summer.

Thank you!

Is this mold?

Hi! I’m an art teacher and need urgent help. I’m supposed to do face painting in a few hours and bought this pallet and I can’t tell if this is mold? Specifically the brown, copper, and both greens look like they have a bit of spots but not super sure if it’s mold. Can painters help a teacher out quickly!

My competition piece!

I hope this is allowed here.

I did something im super proud of! I painted her from had to toe fully with face paint. She's displayed and competing in an artist competition!!! She's called

Willful Blindness.

I'd be so grateful for you all that appreciate the workings of face paint if you feel so inclined to vote for her.

Water-based face paint recommendations

Hello! I'm getting back into face painting after and I cannot find any Bo Buggles paints in stock. Not sure if there going out of business or are no longer created but I am in need of recommendations for quality water based face paint.

My canvases are young children so hypoallergenic water based paints are required. TIA

Face Painting On Adults

After I get my Insurance from the JestPaint site, I would like to offer facepainting for ADULTS. Glitter, etc. I also do not do "quick" paints, I take time up to five minutes per person or so. Would you think churches, senior living homes, or what events would be great for this? Thanks so very much.

Looking for a great face paint kit

I will be volunteering to do some face painting at a pretty large elementary school for field day. Can anyone recommend a good sized kit that would have good pigment, good ease of use in a lot of color options? I want to make sure I am fully prepared. It’s not until June 12th so I do have some time for shipping.

Soccer ball confessions…

After painting for almost 25 years you’d think I was a pro at painting anything… but soccer balls have always been my arch nemesis 😂⚽️

Every time kids ask me for one I wanna hide under a rock 🫣🤣 So now that it’s a World Cup year, I finally forced myself to learn.

Yesterday I drew 19 soccer balls before I felt confident enough to paint one on my arm… then painted them like 5 more times before I finally got it right 😂

Safe to say I can officially paint soccer balls now and I cant wait for someone to request one at my gigs this weekend 🤭

New Rule Regarding Spam & Open Invitation to Brands That Want to Support the Community

New Rule: No Blatant Marketing / Ad Spam

This sub is meant to be a community for face painters to share art, get feedback, learn techniques, and connect with other artists.

Lately, supplier and brand advertising has started overwhelming the subreddit, with multiple promotional posts appearing back-to-back. Because this is a small, slow-moving niche sub, ads stay on the sub's front page for a long time. They are burying artist posts and community discussion.

So going forward:

Posts that are primarily advertisements are no longer allowed.

That includes:

  • obvious product ads
  • infomercial-style videos
  • repeated promotional posts
  • sponsored posts focused mainly on selling

What is allowed?

Branded tutorials, demos, and educational content are still allowed once per week per brand/company. Please do not use multiple accounts to try to bypass this.

If you want to promote your products here, please do it in a way that benefits the community:

  • tutorials
  • tips
  • technique breakdowns
  • educational demos
  • inspiration content

An artist that happens to use branded products is fine.

A sponsored or promotional video (“use code XYZ at checkout,” logo on the screen, heavy branding, direct sales focus, etc.) counts toward the once-a-week limit.

The goal is balance:

  • artists still get a place to share and connect
  • businesses can still reach their audience
  • the sub doesn’t turn into a nonstop ad feed

What I don’t want is accounts that only post ads, never engage with artists' posts, and treat the subreddit like free advertising space.

Opportunities for Brands That Want to Support the Community

I’m open to discussing community-focused collaborations.

For example:

  • sponsored contests
  • beginner challenges
  • judged events with feedback from experienced painters

A small prize like a split cake, brush set, sponge pack, glitter tattoo kit, etc. can genuinely help artists here while also building goodwill for your brand. It's also a fraction of the cost of the alternative of just buying adspace with Reddit directly.

That kind of participation strengthens the community instead of drowning it in ads.

If a company is interested in something like this, feel free to message the mod team.

Harassing moderators or acting entitled to advertising privileges will result in bans.

These rules may evolve over time depending on how things go. If advertising continues to be disruptive, promotional content may be restricted further in the future.

The priority is keeping this subreddit a healthy space for artists first.
