The Twin Quasars - Mink Car [1970, LP]

This is the sixth album in a series, check out parts OneTwoThree, Four, and Five here!

Back in the studio once again, the Quasars’ two head songwriters were at an impasse. Linnell wanted their next record to expand upon the sound of Spines, while Flansburgh wanted to go in a completely new direction inspired by Funk, R&B, Jazz and Latin music. The five piece band held a vote to decide the record’s direction and Flansburgh’s vision won 3-2. This action unsurprisingly led to tension within The Twin Quasars during the following sessions and caused a major strain on Linnell and Flansburgh’s creative partnership, with Linnell continuing to push back on the new sound. In the end, to minimize any more hurt feelings, the Quasars decided to finish the album as tensionless as possible then enter an indefinite hiatus to focus on solo projects. The Twin Quasars’ final* album, Mink Car, released in December 1970 to mixed reactions and poor sales, but has since become a fan favorite oddity.

The Twin Quasars are a 1960s time swap of They Might Be Giants.

The Twin Quasars - Spines [1969, LP]

This is the fifth album in a series, check out parts OneTwo, Three, and Four here!

Because of the success of their previous record In The Shade Under a Little Tree, the music press began calling The Twin Quasars a novelty act only kids can enjoy. To combat these sentiments, Flansburgh, Linnell, and the band went into writing their next record wanting darker, more adult sounds and themes in line with The Velvet Underground and The MC5. The resulting record, Spines is a quasi-concept album about mental illness and losing one’s mind while still having to function in society and is often seen as a forefather of Alternative Rock.

The Twin Quasars are a 1960s time swap of They Might Be Giants.

The Monkees- Magical Angel Band Tour (1967 LP)

Inspired by the u/Sheeranisking series of the Alternate Universe Monkees and Beatles swap
So l'll be doing the same for both bands.

After the success of “ceremonies” The Monkees decided to start making a film about a strange group of people traveling around the southern states of America in a bus. The concept was inspired by Ken Kesey’s psychedelic merry pranksters, after thinking of this idea Mickey sketched a rough pie chart to help him memorize the concept. The album was released in the US on November 27 1967 while in the UK it was released as an EP on December 8 1967, the album and it was a musical success but was not a public success, due to it being shown in black and white and not in colour as it was intended to be.

Alt Reality Beatles Albums 9: Projecting Our Images

(Huge credit to u/JonathanWormcock for the album art.)

A couple years ago, I took the early Beatles solo albums and turned then into "Beatles" albums. My goal was to

a) try and arrange their songs together to make things that genuinely feel like an album (with a little imagination)

b) use as much of their solo songs as possible while still keeping a decent balance between John, Paul, and George songs.

My rules:

  1. I assume that the Beatles keep being as prolific as they were as a band, recording 2 albums per year

  2. Im only allowed songs that were written or co-written by one of the fab four and was performed by one of them (or Wings)

  3. I can only use songs that were recorded in the year of release or in prior years

  4. I'm allowed 25 minutes per side of album

  5. I'm allowed a couple non-album singles

After being apart for about 6 months, the Beatles got back together in early 1973 to record another album. The time off was great for Paul, he just most of the time just being a family man on his farm, writing songs. George had some great time working with Ravi Shankar and Ringo got to act in some movies. Lennon, however, got his ego hit with McGovern election loss. He's less concerned with writing political songs here (though he does still bring some), and George works with Ringo to provide his signature Beatles song "Photograph". They decided to name this album after the Lennon lyrics from Mind Games "Projecting Our Images across space and time" since a lot of the album is about how people and society see themselves, and interact with nature.

Released in March 1973, it was a tremendous success, both commercially and critically.

I really like this album. Some of the Beatles best solo songs are on here (particularly from Paul and Ringo). I've always loved the song "Living in the Material World" and feel like spreading out the slower songs from LitMW makes them stand out better.

I'd love some feedback, though. What do you all think? Does it feel like a real album?
