From what I can tell you, Fictionpress isn't doing anything about the scammers anymore because I got the above message.

That said, let's break down why the message is a scam:

1. They sing praises of the fic, but they don't say what, exactly about the fic they liked or, at least, they aren't really specific. And that is if they even reference the title of the fic.
2. Related to the aforementioned, their messages tend to be some kind of scripted, often with grammar and spelling that differs (in the images, a little) from their subsequent messages.
3. Apparently, they've been reading the scammer lists on the forums, as they don't always mention their discords right away but, however, they will ask for your other socials so they can message you there. Relatedly, this also shows they might not have read your profile because they would have a clue as to what your socials might be if you've listed them on your profile.
4. While the name isn't shown here (because I ain't trying to get in trouble with Reddit), I will point out that these scammers are NOT creative with their names, either picking the most "western" sounding names or names that were more consistent with 2000s or 2010s FFN uses, never really in-between.
5. Their profiles tend to be blank. Sometimes, they have a PFP but, mostly, they tend to be blank, likely not even a single sentence telling you something about themselves. Now, admittedly, some people are extremely private but it tends to noteworthy if they have a PFP and nothing else. On that related note, when they do have a PFP, that image tends to not to be searchable through visual search, something that indicates the pic is either AI schlop or was stolen from a source has long vanished from the interwebs. On top of this, they tend to be people who've recently joined.
6. In terms of their socials, if they actually have any, you search the usernames they've given and nothing comes up or, if it does, it just goes back to their FFN account.
7. If you find their art, it's either stolen from someone else, it's actually AI schlop, or both. A potential red flag to this is how their art style might be all over the place, on top of it being titled "Commission" and the information being very minimal. Granted, a lot of artists do have varied styles, a "range" if you will, however, what sets the scammers apart is that most artists, even with variation tend to have some consistencies.
8. Prolly should have said this first but these scammers are most likely not bots, considering that, at times, when you call them out on it, they can and do converse with you. On top of this, to even log into FFN or its sister site, Fictionpress, you have do a CAPTCHA.

Soooo gross

I... I don't know where to start.

I just remember the good old days, you know? When we made fanfics, we reviewed, and the review section weren't filled with so many bots and scammers.

I just checked and the last official update from the dev team was more than a year ago. September of 2025.

I remember being so excited to read a new fic, or leave a good review. I don't know if it's me or the fandoms I'm in, but it feels like FFnet is slowly fading.

Or perhaps this is a biased perspective of it, and I just miss the simpler times when I was living a simpler life, still going to campus and worried about exams and projects.

I like to think of it as half and half.

It just hurts to see that the dev team practically forgot, or abandoned, the site and the only thing that's holding it together is the fans and readers who desperately try to keep it alive before it gets forcibly shut down due to a lack of moderation or renewal.

It'd be nice if they at least gave a countdown or date so authors and readers can pick and choose where to migrate and move to next.

It feels... odd. Being this attached to a site, a fanfiction site at that. But I feel like this website, and the FFnet app, took a large part in making me who I am today. Seeing it slowly die, abandoned, makes me tear up a bit. Despite the meme template of the GIF and title of the post, I genuinely feel sadness for the sites and the readers.

To any authors and readers out there in FFNet, much genuine respect to you. I still read some fanfics in FFnet from time to time, as some authors only post there and not crosspost, but I realized that I, as a reader, have migrated to other websites. That being Spacebattles, and Questionable Questing for more graphic fanfictions as Spacebattles doesn't accept explicit-ish NSFW. It's fun and encourages discussion, alongside both Creative Writing fanfiction and Original Creations. Looking back, FFNet at its peak was genuinely beautiful. And the memories we made with it.

Absolutely disgusting

Here’s a crasy, crack-ish crossover fic Idea that I have.

It’s a crossover between Ranfren, Psychopomp, Yume Nikki, AND Thus Spoke Rohan Kishibe.

Here’s the setup: Rohan, while minding his own business (unusual, I know), through a bunch of strange events, ends up in some sort of surreal, disturbing, messed up mind fuck world, and he ends up in a bizarre adventure (see what I did there) so he can go back home.

He ends up (unwillingly) meeting and teaming up with our three wacketeers, Randal, Venus (Psychopomp MC), and Madotsuki, who “help” Rohan get home.

The whole thing is filled with disturbing, fucked up, psychological horror-like moments and Rohan does not want to be a part of it (but usually does end up becoming a part of it, much to his own dismay)

The whole time, our three mind fuck magnets try to become friends with him, which Rohan does not like.

It is best described as thus,

Rohan: I am nobody’s friend, got that!?

Rohan: (points at Randal) I don’t want you here (points at Venus) and I don’t want you here!

Rohan: (points at Madotsuki) I’m stuck with you!

There’s no sad or angsty moments (Unless Rohan gradually becoming insane counts as angst), just pure, unhinged chaos.

There are quite a lot of gruesome deaths and murders (sometimes by the hero’s), some of which are committed by Rohan himself, due to his depleting sanity.

None of the deaths are of main characters or major supporting characters, just very minor characters and random people.

Rohan also has quite a few mental breakdowns during the whole thing.

Once he FINALLY gets home, he goes on hiatus so he can pull himself together, which ends up taking WEEKS!

The whole thing is essentially crack taken semi-seriously. Like, there is little to no logic or reason for all of the crazy things that are happening, but that’s actually kinda the point.

I have said this in other posts, But I wanted to make my own post about it so a lot of people could see it.

If anyone DOES make a fic from my ideas, then I would love it if you could send me a link to it.
