Wolves displacing a male leopard in Golestan NP, Iran

Credits: jafar_panahpour

>Recording a unique encounter between Iranian leopard and a wolf in Golestan National Park.

>The film was captured by a trap camera installed in one of the most important wildlife passages and from the main leopard territories in Gulestan National Park; a spot where many carnivores have been recorded in recent years.

>A few days before this was recorded, the same camera at the same location managed to capture the scene of an orial sheep being hunted by wolves; an event that shows the importance of this route for relocating decoys and poachers in the area.

>In these images, an adult male leopard encounters several wolves while crossing a trail, capturing moments of a brief but tense encounter between the two massive carnivores.

>The encounter between poachers of the food pyramid is one of the rarely seen and recorded behaviours. Such interactions are part of complex ecological relationships in natural habitats and can play a role in territory use, access to resources, and behavioral patterns of species.

>The interesting thing is that after this incident, the same leopard was spotted and captured by camera several times in the following days and continued patrolling and marking the territory in this range.

>ش🐺 Recording such behaviors highlights the importance of protecting natural habitats and the continuity of wildlife in protected areas.
