Marriage

Hey me and my gf want to just do a court house wedding and do the ceremony later, but we ran into a problem. The whole two witnesses thing is kind of hard because well…. We simply don’t have them because I’m from California and I’m in the military and I ran away with her to here (took her out of an abusive family situation ect ect). Has anyone else had this issue before? I’m just brand new here and don’t really have any friends. do we have to pay extra for witnesses(willing to do) or any luck with just grabbing two bubbas in the court?

Air quality

Hello, The hubby is looking to transfer to Fayetteville and as a mother of a child with asthma, I have some questions about the air quality based on my research from this site and others, as well as asking some friends who lived in Fayetteville years ago. I've gathered that many places don't enforce the smoking bans and it's common to have groups of people smoking indoors, and right outside the entrance of just about anywhere you go. Be it gas stations, restauraunt, doctor's office, government building, stop light, etc. I've also read and heard that open burning of trash being a common thing both in the city and out. And because of lax vehicle inspections, there's a ton of men driving big, loud, smokey trucks around that make it where you can't breathe if you get caught behind one at a red light. There are many other similar things I've read and been told but I'm sure you get the idea. Are these type of annoyances stuff you folks deal with on a regular basis and do you believe the city to be bad for people with respiratory illnesses?

Also moving to the area soon* Looking to commute north of or in Fayetteville with a route more nearby North Fort Bragg/Raleigh. Any traffic/living advice?

Hello everyone! (Credit to Evening-Snow-6979 for their earlier question format)

I’m going to be relocating to North Fort Bragg for work in a few months and I wanted to ask for local advice.

I've been looking around spots like Spring Lake, Littleton, Terry Sanford, and maybe Hope Mills. I've been trying to find somewhere nice thats a 15-30 minute commute from North Fort Bragg where Id be able to visit Raleigh on the weekends.

I’d prefer to live closer to base near/in a smaller Veteran friendly city with some restaurants and things to do with hopes of a decent work-life balance. Ive heard Raleigh is a nice city thats focusing more on Technical/Internet jobs and opportunities. Id like to live near work, but I wouldn't mind an hr drive on the weekends to go visit.

Right now I’m debating whether its worth it to live in Fayetteville (around Skibo Road/Terry Sanford), more NE towards Spring Lake, or maybe S in Hope Mills. I'd rather not drive 40+ minutes to and from work (Raeford/Southern Pines) and be away from Raleigh.

My biggest question is traffic and security. Being single, I've been told by peers to avoid Bragg BLVD. Are there any areas that I need to pay extra attention to to avoid? Any fellow Warhammer nerds that know where is best to hang out at a LGS?

Appreciate any advice.

Any Electrical Companies Around Fayetteville Hiring Apprentices or Helpers?

Does anyone know of any electrical companies around Fayetteville that are hiring apprentices or helpers? I’m currently in electrical trade school and looking to gain more hands-on experience. I’m especially interested in residential work, but I’m open to other opportunities as well. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Homeless male 24F looking for advice to get on my feet.

Basically I’m from Wilmington NC and ended up in a rough spot financially after I lost my job because of severe inattentive ADHD. (Trying to get medicated while out here via telehealth since I have no transportation for a physical appointment) My only family is my mom who lives in Fayetteville. She told me I could stay with her for a couple weeks while I got back on my feet. I came all the way down here just to find out she was actually living in motels and is heavily addicted to fentanyl. Since I’ve been here we’ve been kicked out of 3 or 4 different motels because she’d randomly disappear for days at a time. Now she’s completely gone and I’m out here by myself with nothing except my suitcase and the clothes I have. I don’t know anybody in Fayetteville and I honestly have nowhere to go. Any advice

Dining and day trip suggestions?

Hi, I'm going to be in the area for a business trip in a few weeks and was hoping to get some locals' suggestions for restaurants and things to do on my weekend off.

I'm a bit of a foodie, and my birthday will be during the visit. Not looking to spend $$$$ but anything nice or unique would be cool.

I'm also down for anything local to do--anything to get me out of my hotel after a solid week of 9-5 meetings.

Thanks so much for your help!

To the dudes who gave us fist bumps at the mall yesterday

My bestie and I went to the mall yesterday and randomly some guys gave us what my old ass used to call pounds or fist bumps. It was a recurring theme throughout our mall visit, if we saw these dudes we'd get pounds. I don't know if it was a joke or a bet from them or something, but it was honestly a silly, positive experience! The kids are alright, man.

Onslow county! ALPR and Flock Safety Cameras Threaten Our Privacy

Hey guys!

I want to talk about something that affects every one of us, whether we realize it or not: the growing network of ALPR cameras and Flock Safety surveillance cameras being installed in communities across our communities in NC and across America.

Many people hear phrases like "public safety" or "crime prevention" and assume these cameras only target criminals. But that's not how these systems work.

These cameras don't just watch suspects. They watch everyone.

Every time you drive past one of these cameras, your license plate is recorded. The system notes where you were, when you were there, what direction you were traveling, and what kind of vehicle you drive. That information is then stored in a searchable database.

These cameras watch when were going to work, taking our children to school, attending church, visiting friends, going to medical appointments, or simply living our daily lives.

What concerns me is not just the camera itself. It's the database being built behind it.

Over time, these systems create a detailed map of our lives. They can reveal where we live, where we work, who we spend time with, what organizations we belong to, what doctors we visit, what religious services we attend, and what political events we participate in.

Guys please....Think about that for a moment.

No police officer needs to physically follow you anymore. A network of cameras can do it automatically.

And once that data exists, we lose control over how it may be used in the future.

Today we're told the cameras are for stolen cars and serious crimes. Tomorrow they could be used for something entirely different. History has shown us repeatedly that surveillance tools often expand beyond their original purpose.

This is called mission creep.

A system created for one reason gradually becomes a system used for many reasons.

These are not hypothetical concerns. These are real consequences of living under constant surveillance.

We are also being asked to place enormous trust in technology and databases that are not perfect.

Mistakes happen.

License plates can be misread.

Vehicles can be misidentified.

Data can be entered incorrectly.

When that happens, innocent people can become subjects of police attention through no fault of their own.

I personally watched a chilling video  about a family of 6, babies and all being ripped out of their car and told to lay on the pavement in a store parking lot face down hands interlocked behind their head...AT GUNPOINT!  Because one of these things made a mistake. This kind of could happen to anyone of us, our mother's grand mother's, our wives/partners and children...

Then there is the issue of data sharing.

In Apex NC more than 1000 agencies have access to the data stored in these cameras, the threat is real and it's living right next to us and it's headed right to our front door! I urge you to do your due diligence on these cameras, Google what you gotta Google look it up, these cameras are on walking trails, parks, everywhere. They're not just for license plates, never have been... They're for mass surveillance, to profile you and your families, the NC Bureau of Investigations is pushing lawmakers to have these cameras set up in abundance state wide not only that they're pushing for permanent contracts!, were running out of time guys, while we're not paying attention they're trying to take advantage and turn this into an authoritarian dystopian state, where everyone is survailed and profiled all the time. building a map of who you are prying into every corner of your life....

Too often, people like us are expected to accept these systems without receiving clear answers.

And perhaps the biggest concern of all is that we are slowly normalizing constant surveillance.

A free society should not require people to surrender their privacy every time they leave their homes.

Privacy is not something only criminals need.

Privacy is something everyone needs.

Privacy allows us to think freely, speak freely, associate freely, worship freely, and participate in our communities without fear of being tracked and monitored.

The question before us is not whether we want safe neighborhoods. Of course we do.

The question is whether we are willing to create permanent systems of mass surveillance in the process.

Once these networks are built, they are incredibly difficult to roll back.

Once years of location data have been collected, they cannot be uncollected.

Once constant monitoring becomes normal, future generations may never know what it was like to live without it.

I believe we can pursue public safety without sacrificing fundamental privacy rights.

I believe we can support law enforcement while still demanding transparency, accountability, oversight, and meaningful limits on surveillance.

Most importantly, I believe that the people of this community deserve a voice in deciding how much surveillance they are willing to accept. So...Please Guys I am begging you! Let's all band together, we need to march our A**es down to our local municipalities and fight for our privacy rights, we need to fight before it becomes too late. Please think of the future your kids will have if you don't stop them now! I'm begging you to take a stand. I know I'll be there, the question is will you?

Thank you.

Places to play basketball

Just graduated college and moved here because of the military. I’ve played basketball my whole life and played club ball in college, but I’m starting to miss it. Are there any gyms in the area, including the ones on and off post, that have good pickup runs? I’m from Virginia, so I’m used to rec centers and LA Fitness. Where do people usually play around here?

Very old bird bath

My grandmother has had this birdbath for years and now it won't hold water... Does anyone in Fayetteville know someone that makes concrete birdbaths or if you make them yourself. There used to be a place off 301 and that's where my grandmother got it and I feel like life can't carry on in the garden without this thing... Someone please help. It's literally falling apart and cannot be repaired it must be replaced.
