How do you guys actually find people to work with on a film project?

I'm 23M and have been getting more serious about making short films. I can write and direct decently, but whenever I have an idea that needs an editor, cinematographer or even another person who understands what I'm trying to make, I get stuck.

Most of my friends aren't really into filmmaking, and randomly messaging people on Instagram feels awkward because I don't know whether they're actually interested in collaborating or just posting their work.

For people who make independent/short films, how do you actually find your team? Is there a place where you regularly meet people for this?

Anyone making films or a tv series for kids?

I've been lurking on this sub for a few years, I want to say thank you for being such a dedicated group to discuss, nuture, challenge, and support the film community.

I am working on a live action preschool series (ages 2-5 yrs.), and I haven't really met with anyone working in the same space. Many of you are creating amazing things, and I try to learn as much as possible while keeping my art appropriate for the age group.

Does anyone else produce media for young children? If so, I'd love to connect, bounce ideas, and learn.

Cheers!!!

AI AURORA

Please watch my AURORA trailer. It took me a month to create, and if you like it, share it, leave a comment or give it a like. It really helps.

We hear so much about the worst of human nature. But I wanted to make something about the other side of us. The part that helps, cares, shares what we know and refuses to leave someone behind.

I believe the future can be better if we choose to build it together.

Would you want to live in this future?

How to Breakout Beyond Student Films

Hello everyone,

I went to school with the goal of becoming a writer/director, but suffered an injury that limited my mobility and ability to be on set which made me primarily focused on screenwriting. As I near the end of my recovery, I have wanted to step back into directing. I recently moved to LA from the Midwest, and wanted to know if anyone had advice on finding work or seeking directing roles if my reel is primarily made up of student films. Let me know if this reel “sizzles” enough to gain traction for micro-budget (or even no-budget) short film and proof of concept work, or if my focus should be on writing and putting a project of my own together.

Thanks!

Looking for a young filmmaker / film student in Delhi NCR 🎬

Looking for a young filmmaker / film student in Delhi NCR 🎬

I’m planning a 3–4 minute cinematic pre-wedding short film based on our 6+ year relationship.

I’m NOT looking for a typical pre-wedding video with just poses, slow-motion shots and drone footage.

I want to create a small story-driven short film with:

\- Hinglish dialogues

\- Voiceover

\- Music

\- Emotional storytelling

\- Proper scenes and character moments

\- A beginning, conflict and ending

Since this is a personal project and I have a limited budget, I’m specifically looking to collaborate with a talented film student / aspiring filmmaker / young cinematographer who wants to create something genuinely cinematic for their portfolio.

Ideally, someone who can direct + shoot, with editing either included or handled separately.

📍 Delhi NCR

🎬 3–4 min short film

🎭 Couple / relationship storytelling

💰 Limited but paid budget — open to discussing

If you’re interested, please DM me with:

  1. Your portfolio / Instagram / YouTube

  2. Any short films or narrative projects you've worked on

  3. Whether you can direct + shoot

  4. Your expected charges

Looking for talent and storytelling ability more than expensive equipment.

If you know someone who would be a good fit, please tag them or share this with them.

I need help. Desperately

Firstly, I solemnly swear, this is not spam. I have this form, for my final year research, and I need like 100 submissions minimum. I have 58 so far. The research topic, in short is whether/how the things you watched growing up has had an influence on your creative practice today or contributed to where you are as a creative today. This research is targeted towards VISUAL Creatives, so animators fall right in my demographic.

If as many people can fill this today it would mean the world to me. I just need 42 responses more. Its a 10 minute survey. Everyone who fills it would be a lifesaver.

Thank you in advance!

Looking to work on a film set

Hey guys! I’m looking to work on a film set as an extra set of hands for any purpose. I’m not really seeking any payment either. I have experience with editing (Davinci Resolve) and am currently a photographer. I also have experience writing screenplays however without any major credits. The size of the film doesn’t matter, I’d just like to gain some experience.

No adult media.

Looking for aspiring writers with a 3-page short film idea — UK based filmmaker in London

Hey filmmakers and everyone,

I’m a filmmaker based in the UK, and I’m looking to connect with aspiring writers who have a short-film idea they really want to see made.

You don’t need to have a full screenplay.

If you have a 3-page script, story treatment, or even a strong short-film concept, I’d love to hear it.

I’m particularly interested in ideas that are:

Original and character-driven

Filmable on a realistic indie budget

Any genre — drama, comedy, thriller, romance, social issues, etc.

Something that can work as a compelling short film for 3 minutes or less.

I’m not looking for people with huge portfolios or industry connections.

If you’re an aspiring writer sitting on an idea and thinking “someone should make this” — this could be worth a conversation.

If you’re interested, feel free to DM me with your 3-page script/idea and a little about yourself.

Let’s see if we can turn a few pages into something that ends up on a screen.

First Shortfilm

Hello, everyone! I’m working on my first short film, and I have an outline set up. I’m a huge movie nerd and have spent the last month researching films in the genre I want to make.

Any advice for a fledgling filmmaker?

I don’t want to give away too much of the premise out of fear of it being stolen, but to sum it up: it’s a psychological thriller about an unreliable narrator trying to escape his situation.

The ending is something I really want to keep. The protagonist appears to successfully escape, and we fade to black. When we come back, we reveal the facility he supposedly escaped from, ending the shot on our protagonist, mutilated and left to suffer.

Throughout the script, I want to plant subtle hints that what the viewer is seeing isn’t real without making it too obvious. I want the audience to be able to look back afterward and realize the clues were there the whole time.

Any advice on how to pull this off effectively, or general advice for making a first short film, would be greatly appreciated!
