What do you actually think about Five Beyond?

Hey everyone! I'm a college student doing some research on Five Below and would love to hear from actual shoppers.

A few quick questions:

  1. How often do you shop at Five Below compared to a year or two ago, more, less, or about the same?

  2. What do you think about the "Five Beyond" section (items over $5)? Is it worth the price, or do you not like it?

  3. Are there other stores or apps (Dollar Tree, Target, Amazon) you've been going to instead lately?

  4. What keeps you coming back , or what made you stop going?

Any honest thoughts appreciated, even if it's just "I don't shop there anymore and here's why." Thanks YOU!!

Why does this always happen?

Every time I try to place an order for pickup (the delivery option was unavailable), they always cancel my order within a few hours, stating that the item is no longer available. The website says the item is still in stock even after they've cancelled my order, but it never is. I've been waiting months for it to come back in stock... support told me February, then June, now it's still gone. This is getting ridiculous, has anyone else had this problem? Is there anything I can do?

Official dumpling statement

After hearing feedback, I’ve decided to put in a rule against posting dumplings. I will keep the dumpling flair for any discussion that is about them such as topics about events (golden dumpling event) or stories involving customers and dumplings. The word itself isn’t banned but any post that contains pictures of dumplings you got or asking if a dumpling is real will not be allowed and will result in the post being removed. I will keep up any post that has been posted before this date, but any post after this announcement is made will be deleted. If you have a dumpling you want to show off or ask questions, please post in r/squishydumplings

Thanks so much!

Subreddit overhaul!

Heya guys! I reached out to the owner of this sub and asked for permission to moderate and make some changes!!

You’ll be seeing some new things here. I’ve added user flairs you can choose from that display if you’re a customer or your position in the company. I’ve also added some post flairs.

So far I haven’t created any rules, but I’m open to suggestions. From here on forward I ask that everyone tries to tag their posts to the best of their ability and if you want a custom flair added please let me know!! You can either comment here or shoot me a DM.

I also decided not to ban dumpling posts, but to add them under a separate flair. If there is a large sum of people who would prefer them to be banned, please comment because I can make that a rule if necessary lol.

This is my first time moderating a sub so it’s all kinda new to me but I’ll try my best. Thanks for taking the time to read!

Adding in an edit: I want to clarify that I am not HR/PR. If you are having issues with anybody in your store, or had a bad experience in a five below location, I am not the one to contact. Please contact the official help lines.

I was yelled at over bags and emails

This is my first time posting on reddit ever. I work at a smaller 5 below a low capacity one. Yesterday it was just me and my manger and a little bit of a rush so I was standing by the drinks directing people, telling them about the emails, and how my store no longer has plastic bags. Our store manager just took them away one day to try to sell more totes. So this lady went up to a card only register and said in an annoyed tone "There's no bags!" And I responded in a nice tone "Yeah they're having us do away with plastic bags. It's a Californian company." (The excuse I've been using so no managers get yelled at for something that they didn't decide) she responded angry rasing her voice "Well this ain't California!" And since there was nothing I could do "Well sorry I can't control that." And this lady was older her daughter was with her and looked older like in her thirties and I should've walked away I admit that but then this lady grabs an item and goes to start scanning with the email screen. I was trying to be nice and helpful so I told her "Oh by the way that's the email screen-" before I could finish she yells "I DONT NEED A BOARD THAT BAD TO STAND HERE AND GET TREATED LIEK A TWO YEAR OLD!" She then stormed off leaving the cart behind meanwhile I'm in shock and tearing up because I year up when someone raises their voice at me or yell. Another lady who saw everything and saw me tearing up was super nice asked if I was ok and gave me a hug. I ended up hiding in the back trying to calm down my manager was mad for me, and he offered her a free bag but she refused! For context ge was in the office trying to fix time cards. And when i told my coworker that came in to take over a employee from another store over heard me and the lady was rude to him as well!

interview help.. if this is the right place to ask🙏

I hope this is the right place to ask.. the other subreddit hasn’t had any activity in a year and i’d feel embarrassed to ask a question in there knowing it’s a ghost town in there.. I have an interview for Five Below next saturday and this will be my third retail job if hired.. I’m 16, but I’m unsure of what questions they might exactly ask😓!

I know they’ll ask the basics like tell me about yourself, previous work experience, availability, why should we hire you, etc.. but is there anything i should prepare myself for? Thanks in advance💔

Can we get some flairs in this sub or something?

Or maybe even just remove posts asking about their squishy dumplings?!? I’m tired of seeing these things pop up on my feed. Who cares if your dumpling is real or fake they come from the same Chinese sweat shops and break after 2 days of use!!!! And I especially don’t care if you got the “rare” one. It’s all just wasteful bullshit that’s just gonna end up in a landfill (as with most five below items lol)

Hell I volunteer to be a mod for this sub or something lol I just don’t wanna see those posts!!

Do we look like the dumpling experts?

“When will you have them again” “What days do you restock your dumplings” “Today is Wednesday, where are your dumplings”

I don’t know I literally don’t know because I am not in charge of shipments 😭

checking zipline while off?

hey guys, im an MM that left the company back in ‘23 and just came back a couple months ago (i really dont know why i came back). anyway, my store manager came in after memorial day and told me i need to be checking zipline on my days off. she said she does it, which makes sense, its her store and shes salary. but im an hourly employee and am not getting paid to check zipline on my days off. legally, if i do anything work related it should be paid out, since again, i am an hourly employee.

yes, it’d take just a few moments, but when its one of my two days off? im sorry, im not ruining my time off by thinking about the sets im going to have to do in the morning the next day.

has anyone else’s managers asked them to do this or is this just my SM trying to break labor laws? atp im not even sure she knows labor laws because its not the first time i’ve had issues with her blatantly ignoring them.

What is y'all's process for such frequently rotating inventory?

I'm a Petco employee. We got your old CEO. He brought with him the monthly rotating inventory system and it is driving me insane.

On every new truck there are new products I've never seen before, with no set location yet, that just sit in a box until we're given a location for it. Even if it does have a set location when it comes in, that location was just reset last month and now they want to replace last month's products with new products. We have so much unsold product from the previous month that our clearance sections are overflowing and we have boxes of clearance stuff just sitting around with nowhere to go, and every month the pile gets bigger.

I am losing my mind with this and don't understand how a store runs seemingly almost entirely on this model. Does anyone have any insights? Help a frustrated employee at a different company understand how this is supposed to be run efficiently? Is this CEO just insane?

Bluetooth Speakers

I got the $8 speaker with the color changing light on it. This thing smacks for $8 I have it at like 30% volume right now and it’s adequate and supposedly lasts 10 hours, pretty stoked

They got me y’all 😔

I’ve been working at 5B for two years now but only recently have I seen an item we sell be trending for close to a year now. At first, the dumplings didn’t seem like anything special to me and I didn’t have any desire to buy them. That was until we had the mini ones on sale after a long time of not having them.

I swear they were staring at me and begging me to bring one of them home with me. So, I bought one and it was okay. I don’t regret the purchase but I won’t make another one. I got a glittery purple one with orbeez inside. Is that a rare one?

I resigned today

It feels great! As MM at my former store, the training was terrible, the work was absolutely back-breaking, the goals were unrealistic, and the support was non-existent. It was an interesting experience, but on an income to stress ratio, one of the worst jobs ever.

The management and crew, from the SM on down, are all terrific people.

Adios Five Below!

Hours Cut Over Emails

One of my managers told me earlier today that corporate is going to cut hours of those who don't get enough emails. Is this true? I mean, has it really happened?

A coworker of mine got, like, maybe one shift per pay period after getting a lower percentage of emails. But that was weeks ago, and it was from our store manager and not corporate, as far as I know.

Edit: The reason they told me is cause I get a lot of emails and get scheduled a lot, which is tiring and brings a lot of tension with my coworkers. I asked for some days off next week and was told about the hours being cut.

Legion

Is anyone else having trouble with Legion instant pay like mine didn't let me access it at all today to pull out money and it didn't show that I clocked out at 9:30 instead of on today cuz I was asked to stay later so I just didn't get my Legion paid today and that's how I pay my ride home I asked my manager about it and he's a newer manager doesn't have access to schedule or anything so he called the store manager and ask her to come fix it and she didn't come in because she just got back from a vacation and doesn't work until tomorrow so I had to walk home because I couldn't pay for a ride to get home

Customer walked out over 10% coupon

Hey y’all! Has any other employees/customers not had the 10% coupon send to email?
Yesterday I had a lady come up to check out (my store is all self check out) I walk her to a register, tell her about email, then she gets a little pissy all of a sudden and says “I’ve put my email in the past 3 times and I’ve never been sent anything” I proceed to tell her that I’ve had a couple of other people with the same issue. These people swear to me that they put their email in correctly. I proceed to tell the woman that I really can’t do anything about it because I have no control of if the coupon sends or not. I pulled out my phone to show her what to look up on her email. She then proceeded to ask if she could use one of MY coupons…. Lady. I can’t even use my coupons😒 (to be honest I have let very few people use my coupon but this lady was atp being a bitch) so obviously I tell her no and she says “well it’s really messed up that you guys advertise this and it just never sends!” Bitch….”you guys?” I just work here ma’am🫩 she then throws her hands in the air and says some bs like “ion even want this stuff no mo!” And walks out. Thankfully it was only like 3 items.
Damn. Mb I realize this is more of a rant but my point is has anyone else not had the coupon send through? The lady checked her spam too.
