still worth buying in 2026?

going to uni this year and looking for something to take to lectures with me. I’ve used an iPad for the past 6 years in school because my laptop isn’t portable but now that both devices are kinda giving out the X13 seems great as the best of both worlds. I play games on my laptop but nothing that hard to run. I see people complain about being stuck at 16GB ram but I don’t foresee that being an issue. Since it came out in 2023 though was wondering if there was anything newer that was more worth the money. Would also be interested to know how well it runs unplugged + for how long for basic stuff as that could be a dealbreaker. Thanks :)

A job long overdue

First time doing this kind of work, easier than expected, just time consuming. Althrough trying to take out all the liquid metal without spilling it was a bore. I masked around the chip to ensure that it didn't spill onto any other components. Why do ASUS use liquid metal instead of normal thermal paste/P7950 I have no idea. generally temps went from ~95c to >86c on the CPU and a similar trend for the GPU.

New Asus Flow Z13 KJP Edition Laptop Purchased - Guidance Needed for Dev Env Setup

Good People.

I purchased a new Asus Flow Z13 KJP Edition Strix Halo laptop (cum tablet). It’s got 128 GM unified memory RAM machine, and I specifically bought it for running local LLMs. I have been into Apple ecosystem and have been a Mac OS user since 18 years. However, as the Mac Studio prices are beyond my affordability, have gone ahead with this. I have been into software web development for quite sometime and I am comfortable with trying out new things.

I would like to get some guidance around the setting up this machine for development, specifically Web, Mobile Apps and running Local LLM. I have bought a Windows 11 Pro license and upgraded to it, however I would like to also dual boot it to Ubuntu or a specific flavour of Linux that is optimised for performance and general broad support for drivers and development packages easy availability. The idea is not to spend a lot of time tinkering or learning the Linux side of things but to optimise the machine for local LLM running.

Coming from Mac OS to Windows and Linux, I also want to get your inputs if there are any particular things that would help me along this journey that I am starting.

Please do share your inputs and thoughts on the comments, not just specific to what I am looking for but anything and everything that will be of help to me, I would really appreciate it.

Thank you.

Need measurements for ROG Flow X13 (GV301) Power Button Bracket – 3D Printing a replacement

Hi everyone,

I recently bought a second-hand ROG Flow X13 (GV301RE), but I discovered that the internal metal bracket (support) for the power button is completely missing. Because of this, the power button is loose, doesn't click, and can't reach the microswitch on the board.

Since this part is almost impossible to find in my country, I’m planning to 3D print or fabricate a replacement.

Could someone who has their X13 open please provide the dimensions for this bracket (see the attached image)? Specifically, I need:

https://preview.redd.it/nho6s9an6i0h1.png?width=475&format=png&auto=webp&s=1d6acf713eebbd26fe5109a70c1197de35199395

  1. Total Length: From hook to hook.
  2. Bracket Depth: How deep the "bridge" sits.
  3. Actuator Nub Height: The length of the small center "pimple" that presses the switch.
  4. Thickness: Approximate thickness of the metal/plastic part.

A photo of the part next to a caliper or ruler would be a massive lifesaver!

Thanks a lot for any help!

Any other touchscreen laptops with discrete GPU?

My 2022 model is dying and I need to upgrade since x13 has not refresh the line-up I'd need to look for another brand. Does anyone know any other laptops that is touchscreen and has discrete GPU? don't suggest Z13 that's more a tablet and harder to clean the fan especially for an amateur user. I was thinking the ProArt PX13 but in Australia it only sells the GoPro edition which doesn't have discrete GPU
