I’m looking at heading down to Argentina next year for Golden Dorado. Here is the two rod setup I’ve pulled together with the help of chat gpt. Of particular importance, I tend to rush my cast a bit, which is why I was leaning towards the Mangrove Coast for one of my rods. I’ll be sure to put time into lessons before going down as well. I’ve historically fished US mountain creeks 1-3 times per year, so this will be a wildly different fishing setup. Once I put in the work, I plan to continue using a similar setup for Gulf Coast fishing. I’d love any thoughts or recommendations from the expert community!
All are new size II. $225 shipped per reel.
Please Note: I have hundreds of reels, lines, rods, boxes, nippers, etc. 48 pages worth of stuff. Feel free to shoot me a pm with your email for a copy of my stuff.
Does anyone have information about 0wt rods that they’d like to share? I’m looking for a Sage One 0wt in particular, it was an 8’2” rod. Also interested in maybe a custom one?
Pic for attention 😛
Following on from my previous post about where to fly fish in Hampshire, I now need some help with the next hurdle **—** buying all the gear!
Rod, reel, line, leader, tippet… the lot. I’ve started looking into it and it’s an absolute minefield, its melting my brain 😂
I’m a beginner and just want a decent setup that I can learn with and won’t need replacing immediately. Any recommendations on what I actually need and what’s worth buying would be massively appreciated!
Guys,
I’m thinking of getting a new reel for my kids to use while fishing on the Miss Hatteras, a Headboat out of Hatteras NC. They target Black Sea bass, vermillion snapper, and triggerfish off reefs from around 100 to 180 feet deep. There are also Jacks, cubera snapper, and various groupers on the reefs as well, although in smaller numbers.
Their standard rental equipment consists of 3/0 and 4/0 Senators dropping 12 and 16 oz sinkers on 80 lb braid. The outfits are too heavy for my 80 and 90 lb boys.
I’m considering getting a lighter outfit for the boys to use. Because the boat fishes reefs which are pretty deep (up to 180 feet), the reel needs to have a lot of line capacity using 50 lb braid. But it needs to be small enough for them to handle for six hours. Have been thinking the Torium 2000hg, the Fathom 2 25N, or the Tekota 600. Thinking of pairing it with a MH Ugly Stik Carbon jigging rod and that they grow into it. Thoughts?
Hi, I’m moving to Colorado from the east coast for school and want to get a dedicated rod for mousing and streamers. I get a big discount on Lamson from my pro deal but I’m not sure which rod best fits my use case, as multiple seem to overlap. I get the velocity, purist, cobalt, and radius all for around 300 and I was wondering which best suits that application.
Thanks!
Hey all, recently got into fly fishing and grabbed this little guy off of FB Marketplace! Tearing this thing apart I’m running into some issues haha. Does anyone know,
A. What brand/what reel this is?(there’s nothing on the tang where the reel sits against the fly rod)
B. What type of lubricant I should get/use to get this puppy smooth?
C. How to get the little split ring off the shaft of the drag to clean the inside?
D. General overall tips for beginners with keeping gear working properly so it doesn’t get to this condition:)!
Thanks all so much for the help, if I need to post this in a different subreddit please lmk!
When I twist, the little thing the applies pressure on the arm doesn’t move up and down like it should.
Anyone have any info or experience with trifecta fly rods? Ive been looking into getting a 7’6 ish 3wt that can handle small Maryland trout streams a little better than a 5wt and ive recently come across Trifecta. Since im 17, I dont have all the money in the world, and the cheaper prices are enticing. I cant seem to find much at all online about them and their instagram has a lot of ai junk which isnt a great indicator of quality. If anyone has some more information about them or any experience using their rods that they wanna share, I would appreciate it. Thanks!
Basically i dropped it and now it wont stay attached to the other half of the reel when ever i actually use it. Read my first post for a better explanation, but now i want to see if im missing anything, the little silver square seems to lock it in place but it keeps moving when the button pushes down on it and i have no idea how to prevent it. It could be that i need a new spring it is a bit rusty but it always worked just fine.
