It's FIFA World Cup season and like you, I've been on the hunt for various team jerseys as well.

Being based in Mumbai, I decided to skip online shopping this time around and went straight to Colaba Causeway instead. Now full disclosure, I'm not exactly a pro at this. My haggling skills are.. mediocre at best 😅 so I spent quite a bit of time doing research before making the trip. This "guide" is a mix of everything I learned along the way from various posts here on Reddit as well as insights from a few YouTube videos.

It’s not perfect (and yes, it’s a bit smol) but it should give you a solid starting point to understand things like fan vs player versions, and the quality differences between the two, what to look out for, current pricing, etc

There are two categories of jerseys available in the market.

Official Jerseys (Authentic / Licensed):

###Offline/Local Market

• Haggle. Always. Prices are never ever fixed. If you have no idea what's a good place to start, do what I do and lurk around when there's a customer. Once the sale goes through, eavesdrop on the Paytm/GPay transaction announcement and use that amount as baseline for further bargaining.

• Don't let their starting price scare you. They'll quote any amount like ₹1500 but use the table above to get a fair idea of the current market value of the jersey.

• If possible, take a woman along. Most of them are seasoned negotiators and know exactly how to get their way. Many shopkeepers eventually fold when it's a woman arguing for a good discount. Men? Yeah, no chance.

• Okay this one's a bit tricky. Buying knockoff jerseys online on random/unknown websites is like playing Russian roulette. Unless you have someone who knows someone who can get you a good deal, stick to any one of the reputed website names floating around the sub.

###Pre/Post Purchase Checklist

• Take a close-up look of the badge, player name, number, and sponsor logos. Check proper alignment. Refer to authentic jersey pics for these.

• Stitching. Nice and clean, no loose threads.

• Material. Good ones feel slightly thick and not super thin and shiny. May not apply to player version. Those are thin and shiny.

• Sizing. Dont trust knockoff jerseys sizing. In person, do try before you buy. Online? Compare size chart and reconfirm with seller.

###At Home

• Washing instructions: Good jerseys last longer if washed inside out in cold water. Never Iron directly on the logos. Skip dryer entirely and if possible, hand-wash to keep the stickers from peeling.
