First time sourcing furniture in Foshan – How do sourcing agents actually work? (€25k project)

Hi everyone!

I'm traveling to China in 10 days and planning to spend a week in Foshan sourcing furniture for 4 high-end guest rooms, each with a different layout, custom furniture, wardrobes, and bathrooms.

My budget is around €25,000. I've already created 3D models of each room showing exactly what I'm looking for.

I'm completely new to sourcing in China and have a few questions:

Finding an agent: Should I hire one before arriving? How do I find someone reliable?

Services: Can an agent handle everything from finding manufacturers and adapting my 3D designs to production, quality control, and shipping? Where does their responsibility end?

Small orders: Is it realistic to find manufacturers willing to produce custom furniture in single units, since all four rooms are different?

Fees & transparency: How do agents get paid? How can I avoid hidden commissions, inflated prices, or minimum purchase requirements?

Logistics: Can one company consolidate purchases from multiple suppliers, centralize payments, and handle shipping, customs, taxes, and delivery to Réunion Island (France)?

Budget: Is €25k realistic for this project, including furniture, bathroom fixtures, decorative panels, and logistics?

Would love to hear from anyone who's done something similar. Any recommendations, experiences, or red flags to watch out for?

Thanks!

Interior design and sourcing options

I have architectural designs for a remodel in Canada. Since Western design seems different, I thought about have an interior designer here design and then source everything (furniture, cabinets, millwork, etc) from China but concerned that it might be difficult to source.

The other option I thought about is to find an interior designer that is based in China and that should be easier to source the materials in the design. Is that a correct assumption? Would you find someone that is independent or someone that is connected to factories as it send like they would do it free and would be easier to source?

Thanks!

Foshan makers for very high quality Scandinavian-style furniture (Eilersen, Naver level)?

Looking for recommendations for a factory or workshop in Foshan that can make furniture at the level of Eilersen, Naver Collection, Carl Hansen and similar Danish makers. I don't just mean the look. I mean the quality all the way through, including the parts you can't see.

What I'm looking for:

Solid wood (oak, walnut, ash) that is properly kiln dried, with real joinery like mortise and tenon or finger joints. No veneer over MDF where it matters

Oil or soap finishes done properly, not a thick lacquer that hides the wood

For sofas, a hardwood frame, good suspension (springs or quality webbing), high density foam and down or feather wrapping, so it still looks and feels right after 10 years rather than 2

Good leather and fabric (Kvadrat or similar quality), with clean stitching and details

Hardware and fittings that last

I'm not after replicas of specific designs. I want a maker who can build to that standard, either their own Scandinavian-inspired designs or something made to my spec.

Has anyone here had a really good experience with a factory at this level? Names, rough price levels compared to the European brands, lead times, and how they handle shipping and quality checks would all be very useful. Also happy to hear which ones to avoid, as I suspect many say "premium" but cut corners inside.

Is it worth going to Foshan in person to see the workshops, or can you get this right remotely?

Thanks in advance.

Looking to buy furniture

I am looking to buy cheap furniture for an apartment I just acquired, nothing fancy nor designer stuff, just normal cheap stuff that works. I am not able to travel to China though, and I'd like it delivered in Europe. I wanted to know if it is really worth it or I should just buy them from any furniture store here in Europe.
