First of all, thank you to whomever started this sub! I just found it by accident when something was posted about an old location in Vermont. I’m a native of Cape Cod then moved to the Worcester area so I grew up with Friendly’s.

I have a burning question that’s only been on my mind for the last 30 years or so…at the Hampshire Mall there was a Friendly. Not possessive, no apostrophe, no s. Just Friendly. My fellow UMASS students and I couldn’t figure out why and now that I think of it, the internet doesn’t help either. Same logo (minus the apostrophe and s), same menu, etc.

Anyone know?

If you like chocolate sprinkles at home, try buying them from Friendly’s. They go through a lot of them at the store, so they are always fresh. And depending on who you get at the cash register, it will be an interesting experience. Here are brief recaps of some of my more interesting purchases:
[me] How much is a pint of chocolate sprinkles?
[guy1] They’re free.
[me] uh…are you sure?
[guy1] hey, guy2, sprinkles are free, right?
[guy2] right.
[me] okay, I’ll take one pint for free.

Another time:
Guy wasn’t sure which container was a pint. Goes and talks to another guy. They pour a bunch of sprinkles into a large container, and weigh it. As he hands it to me, he says “a pint is 16 ounces, so we used the scale to weigh out 16 ounces…here ya go…” 🤦🏻‍♂️

Ideally I'd like to hear from folks that work at Friendly's currently or have worked there somewhat recently (this decade) but I'm also interested in stories or happenings from back in the day.
