So glad blocked my abuser and don’t know his location anymore so I don’t fall into the same hole Alice did (getting back intimate with him). This show is amazing. It makes me feel so heard and seen. Wow.

Why is Catherine unable to feel the tips of her fingers?

A running theme throughout the show has been Catherine’s lack of feeling in her fingers. Is this coping mechanism as a result of her trauma. or has the abuse that she’s suffered over the years actually affected her hands and fingers in a manner where she has actually lost feeling in them. Thoughts? Theories?

Theory but not sure about the timeline (Spoiler through ep 6)

So in the last episode we learn that roughly over 2 years ago Catherine was working at the shelter and doing well according to the woman running it. Is this roughly the same time period when Isabel died? I’m wondering if Catherine wasn’t working when the photo was taken but was maybe trying to help Isabel.

I just thought it would be an interesting twist and why else bring up that she was helping other women.

I’m also confused on the timeline in general of Isabel’s death; everyone’s age; how long Alice has been with the FBI; etc.

What a freaking episode! Finally, Agent Alice got THE MOMENT

Not going to go into details, what turn of events. Catherine isn't the antagonist, Jay Easton and the authority is. I never expected Alice and Catherine to be the fruit of the same f***ing tree. Marshall plot may have ended. Steve Way (Alden) deserves a dedicated post. What an awesome performance. Emmy, Lola: well just praising them is insulting at this point.

Will there be any consequences for Marshall ever?

Abuses his wife for years, all other cops cover for him and punish her, she's forced to leave.
Gets caught, saved again by corrupt dept.
Now he assaults an FBI agent and ex wife in broad daylight and threatened to kill her.

I mean obviously he's a total POS and the show is about how men like him are protected, but really.... is Alice going to lie once again? Will they try to pin the shooting on her?

I caved and now I’m hooked!

I only just finished episode 2 but MY GOODNESS what a well written show. What I am most anxious about is Danny. Thus far the show has a clear message that the men in the show are villains but it is portraying Danny as the ‘exception’. Will the show take a twist and bring to light him being a villain also? I have so many questions about everything.

I’m also trying this new thing where I don’t Google what happens next in a show or movie, so I’m trying to be patient lol.

UPDATE: it’s 11pm and I just finished episode 6. I am UNWELL!!! Holyyyyy cow!!!!! I kind of knew it was coming but it hit me like a bus.

EP 6 THEORY: DISSOCIATIVE IDENTITY DISORDER

THE CASE FOR CATHERINE BEING ALICE.

  • Marshall is shot with Alice's own gun while Alice is sedated, and Catherine is gone before a single agent lays eyes on her
  • No one at the Bureau has ever seen Catherine. Every sighting of her routes through Alice
  • The flash drive Danny finds contains a video labeled "Alice"
  • Episode 3 makes memory distortion an explicit theme, and Alice is the character who explains it to us
  • The show states outright that Alice has trauma responses she cannot consciously trace to their source
  • Mira cannot retrieve the killer's face, so the only person who has ever described her is Alice
  • The two women are written as one wound: same age of rupture, same numbness, both needing intensity to feel anything
  • Alice's actual professional skill is becoming another woman while telling true stories about her own trauma
  • Capability fits an agent, not a runaway: putting down grown men, a service weapon, training, file and crime scene access
  • The killer keeps staying a step ahead of an investigation Alice is inside of
  • Ed's sabotage conveniently keeps the Bureau out of the room at the exact moment the two of them are alone
  • A pregnancy is confirmed on screen and then nobody, ever, asks what happened to the baby
  • The second girl in the photograph has no name, no face, and the picture has never been dated
  • A possible slip into third person about her own body in episode 5, if that recap transcription is accurate

Marshall’s dad

Follow me along here for a few things . . .
-Marshall is motivated to get a promotion up the chain within NYPD to be like his father. So we know his dad was relatively high up in NYPD.
-When Isabel was found as a Jane Doe, the FBI was on the case, led by Ed and Nora. Influenced by Jay Easton, Ed passed the case to the NYPD.
-Someone from Easton’s camp is still frantically texting Ed to this day about investigations. So it stands to reason that Ed would not have passed the case off from the FBI to NYPD without Easton’s blessing. A guy like Easton is not going to have Ed (who he controls) give up the case for the NYPD if he does not control someone like Ed at NYPD.
-So obviously Easton had someone planted at NYPD—someone high up, who could make the whole thing go away as a cold case. . . . I wonder who that could have been.

Putting on a bit more of a tin foil hat, you can do the math and think that Marshall’s dad would have been in the NYPD in the early 2000s. If he was Easton’s guy at NYPD, when did that start? Could he have come across some terrible things on behalf of Easton in the early 2000s? Could he have encountered a 14 year old girl who was abused, and helped her out? If he did that, would he then want to keep a close eye on that girl going forward (say, by having her walk into the family’s life at 14 years old without any discussion of life prior to that point, become very close to his wife and his son, and date his son for years)?

Ep6 spoilers (please tell me I’m wrong)

>!That end of episode reveal with Danny and the laptop, I kind of hope they’re not taking it in the direction of ‘Alice was also trafficked by jay Easton’ what I have been really liking about the show has been showing the prevalence of trafficking, if they go this way the coincidence kind of implies there’s basically 1 guy behind all the trafficking in the city, which to me just doesn’t seem realistic!<

>!Also continuity wise I feel like it doesn’t make sense, she didn’t seem to recognise any of the men nor them her (even her name which they clearly know)!<

But I’m absolutely loving this show so would love to hear counter arguments on why you want it to go this way, or other theories about that reveal!! 💞

From some quick internet research, Danny does not necessarily have to give the thumb drive to the FBI since Alden gave it to him specifically as an NYPD Detective.

First, let me know if I'm wrong on this because I have no background in this and only did some half-assed internet research. It looks like as an NYPD officer, Danny is not necessarily legally required to hand over that evidence to the FBI. He is the lead detective on the Easton murder and this is evidence that is relevant to his case. Alden specifically only gave that information to him because he could sense, like we all can, that Danny is worth trusting.

I think he will only tell Alice, who will only tell Nora. And I think the 3 of them are going to work this case together with this new information and keep everyone else out of it. I think they will stall on handing this evidence to the FBI as long as possible. With Ed trying to take over, the evidence is truly not safe in the hands of the FBI. It also seems like it would be easy for the FBI to quietly get rid of both Nora and Alice - Nora for drinking and Alice for pulling a gun on her boyfriend - unless they are the ones to get Catherine and take down the Easton family. That success would keep their jobs safe.

Do you think he would let Alice delete her video and do you think she would? It probably wouldn't help her career and she would be a part of the child pornography database at the FBI for the rest of her life. I think if she wanted to erase it, he would let her. Anyone who cares about anyone would probably do the same.

Also, shout out to - and I wish I could find the comment - the person who called this. Someone on this sub said the way she looked at the door of the child pornography room probably meant she was in a video. What a catch of a minor detail and amazing acting from Emmy.

Disappointment

Has anyone prepared themselves for the bad guys getting away? What if Catherine dies, Alice is blamed for Marshal, and whatever else idk. Most shows lead to a satisfying ending, but if this one IS about THE files, I would think realistically it wouldn’t… I really hope the ending is satisfying and they are caught. But ALSO(!) do we know if this is supposed to last longer than one season??

Imagine the last two hours from Catherine's Point of View (Spoilers through Episode 6)

You make a friend at the abuse shelter. She tells you about her abusive ex boyfriend and her trauma around showers. Somebody tells you that she's a fed, but you still believe her about the abusive ex stuff. You jab her with the Fentanyl sleepy time needle and take her gun. Then it turns out that she knows like everything about you. Then as you're running away, that same abusive ex that she just told you about appears seemingly out of the ether and starts abusing your new fed fake friend right in front of you and you get to plug him in the stomach just for fun with her own gun.

Gotta be absolutely wild from her perspective. She didn't even know Marshall existed an hour ago and she's already put a bullet in him.

Why not use CSAM (the term)?

I’m watching the first episode and was thrown by the term “child pornography.” Alice goes looking for Nora and Yara (I think) says Nora is watching child pornography. This is supposed to be the sex crimes unit. That term is outdated. It kinda grated me. The show has taken on a huge topic. Seems like a missed opportunity.

It's all him now

Ed George runs to clean up Hal's laptop, tells Norah it was empty. God knows what he told the lab techs in order to tamp that down.

Alden gives Danny a copy of Hal's laptop--definitely not empty--in secret, he's the smartest most strategic one in the show. What does Danny do now.

At the same time Alice is clutching Marshall who was shot with her gun. Please god I hope Danny's not sidetracked by this and that there's CCTV and she's not hauled in. But what does Danny do now.

There were so many damn video files on that laptop, I'm going to assume they are not all of Jay and his son (ew). I'm guessing they include a pile of "insurance" against other abusers, so that everyone is in a standoff against leaks.
