My Koenigsegg-driving colleague finally understood the Yaris thing

I carpool with a colleague who’s in his mid-30s. He’s Moroccan, drives a Koenigsegg Regera, and is very proud of it. He loves driving fast, and he’s always been very confident about how quick his car is.

We normally just take turns driving. One day he drives his Regera and I’m the passenger, the next day I drive my Yaris manual and he’s the passenger. That’s just how we’ve always done it.

I’ve told him more than once that driving a Yaris does something to you. He never really understood what I meant.

His Regera actually has about 1,430 more horsepower than my Yaris, but that’s not really the point. It’s the feeling of using every single one of my 68 horses at all times. You can be absolutely flat out, thrash it in third gear redline it at 4,000 rpm, completely legally so, and it’s a level of fun you can’t get elsewhere.

Then one day, I asked him if he wanted to drive The Yaris.

We had barely merged onto the motorway, throttle pinned to the floor mat, when he looked over at me. He had this almost glassy look in his eyes and said:

“Now I understand what you mean.”

The 1,500 horsepower guy finally understood.

It’s better to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow.

Should I sell my GR Yaris and buy a M2?

Hi all.

I've owned my Gen1 CP for almost 4 years. I'm the first and only owner. In this time period I've racked close to 50.000km.

Power wise my car is stock, but I've added top mounts, adjustable rear camber and toe arms and uniballs on all 4 corners of the car. I run a somewhat aggressive alignment for the street (2,6deg front, 2,0 rear and 1mm toe our per wheel). I've only attended a drift event with my car, haven't done any other tracking for now.

I'm making this post because I've been asking myself for a while if I would have more fun driving a high power rear wheel drive sports car that, albeit slower in a B road, would probably allow for some silly fun like burnouts, on throttle drifts, powerslides, etc. At the same time I fear that I will miss the Yaris performance and rawness once I part ways with it.

Where I live F87 M2s are reasonably priced.

Has anyone owned both? What should I do?

Buying a GR Yaris

Hello team

I’m thinking of buying this GR Yaris on fb marketplace with these specs. Anything that I should look when doing a test drive and before purchasing ?

McDonald’s GR Yaris

I had this as a recommendation on Snapchat, and somehow a McDonald’s restaurant 50km close to me seems to have a GR Yaris as a delivery car.

Does anyone of you have more specific info about it? I found nothing about it on the internet, and the only idea I have is marketing, as McDonald’s had the new Toyota GT3 as a model for the Happy Meal.

(The McDonald’s is in Osnabrück, Germany, and is called “Eckstein.”)

GR Owners in Auckland, New Zealand

There doesn't seem to be any owners groups for GR cars in Auckland.

I have a 2026 GR Yaris, and its first service is coming up.

I'm concerned about allowing a Toyota tech loose on my car, and I'm seriously considering servicing the car myself. I know the potential implications with this warranty wise. Do any GR owners in this part of the world have any real life experience of having their GRs serviced by Toyota in Auckland?

Is Miata is always de answer?

Hey guys, hope everyone is doing great. Just checking if anyone can share some perspective.

I live in a very small country where cars are around 25–50% more expensive than in the US. My fiancée and I love cars (a blessing and a curse), and we recently sold our Subaru because we want to get something fun as we are in the position to do something like this responsibly.

We’re both 28, getting married soon, and we have no plans for kids for at least the next 6 years, so we figured this might be our chance to get something a little more “couple” focused.

After doing an exhaustive amount of research, we ended up between two cars: the Mazda MX-5 and the GR Yaris. Both are around $60,000 here. Crazy, right?

The car would be shared between both of us since we both WFH most of the week.

GR Yaris:

My fiancée loves the design and the “spirit” of the car being a rally car. I’ve loved rally since I was a kid. My dream car growing up was an Evo VI, and I feel like the GR Yaris is in the same line: a true homologation special, AWD, small turbo engine, and that kick when you get on it.

The resale value here is also really good, there are very few units, and it’s practical enough for us to use as a daily. Fuel consumption isn’t really a concern either; I’m used to cars that consume a lot.

My only concern is the power for her. She likes cars, but she’s not really a “driver,” if that makes sense. We haven’t been able to test drive one because there isn’t currently one available here.

MX-5

On the other hand, we have the MX-5.

She loves the design, the interior quality, and the whole idea of having a convertible for road trips.
From my perspective, this is one of the last breeds of truly driver-focused cars. The Yaris is also driver-focused, but in a different way. The Yaris feels more focused on engineering and performance, and my biggest fear is that it might actually be too perfect and too fast to be as enjoyable on normal roads. We don’t have a proper track here. There’s one, but it’s extremely expensive, so tracking the car isn’t really an option.

The MX-5, however, was tested for a day and a half, and that changed everything. It was an absolute blast on the mountain roads we have here. Just getting close to the limit, or even simply enjoying a roundabout, was ridiculously fun. To be honest, I just have a hard time imagining the Yaris being more enjoyable than the MX-5 in those situations.

Practically, the MX-5 is good enough. We can do a supermarket run, and we managed to fit two carry-ons and two backpacks. The ground clearance is also perfect for our roads, so that’s not really an issue.

The resale value. It’s nowhere near the Yaris here, so I know I’d be taking a bigger depreciation hit. And if we eventually decide to have a larger family, we would definitely need another car.
But I honestly can’t stop thinking about how much fun that MX-5 was.

And here comes the bad news…

Because we live in such a small country, our options are very limited. For both cars, the only options available here are automatics. We only have one dealer per brand, and I’ve already tried pushing for a manual, but it’s simply not possible.

To be honest, my fiancée prefers automatics. I’m completely fine with the GR Yaris being automatic considering the engineering behind the DAT transmission. But the MX-5? It’s hard for me to imagine ordering an automatic. I mean, it was crazy fun, but I feel like I’m committing a sin by buying an automatic MX-5. I know the manual would be even more fun, and we both know how to drive manual.

The driver assistance (hill a climb control) in the ND should also cover some of the things my fiancée would prefer from an automatic, but unfortunately, the manual simply isn’t available here.

I also can’t stop thinking about resale. The MX-5 feels like one of those cars that could become a future classic, especially considering where the automotive industry is going. And I feel like buying the automatic might mean I’m giving up part of that.

So basically, I’m stuck between a monster of a car like the Yaris, which makes a ton of sense but I’m afraid might not be enjoyed to the max, and an MX-5 that we already know we love driving, but buying it with an automatic transmission feels like I’m doing it wrong.

I know I should be grateful that this is the problem I have, and I absolutely am.

The other option would be importing a manual MX-5 RF with low mileage. That would definitely solve the transmission problem, but it comes with much more risk and is very expensive because of import taxes.

A $30K car could easily end up around $48K all payed upfront by the time it gets here, so financially it just doesn’t seem like a very intelligent decision.

So in this case…

Is Miata always the answer?

Sin or not to sin?

What would you guys do?

Picked my Aero Performance this weekend

Had an OG 2020 GR Yaris and sold it a few years back mainly due to needing more space. Fast forward a few years and when I saw the Aero Performance package I just had to get one again. The improvements they’ve made iteratively over the last few years have made it so much better than I remember.

What a car to drive too, so mechanical and rewarding. My other recent cars were i30N (still have it), FL5 Type R, 2018 STi, Focus RS, Evo X and a bunch of others before it.

This car is one of my favourites and I love the ethos behind it. One to keep for a long time I think.

A couple of shots from my recent trip to the Swiss alps

This place is so breathtaking it was really hard to really focus on photography lol. Time was also a bit of a challenge, it was a roadtrip first and foremost and I planned on driving every major mountain pass in the region in a relatively short timespan, so I couldn't really take time to find the best spots, move the car and try different angles, but the place is so beautiful, no matter where you stop there's always at least an decent shot to get.

Brake caliper/rims

Hey all, quick fitment question for a 2024 Toyota GR Yaris.
Looking at wheels: 17x8.5, ET45, 114.3 bolt pattern, mounted with a 245 Hoosier A7.
Main concern is inner clearance — will this combo clear the front brake calipers on the GR Yaris, or will ET45 sit too far inward and hit? Would rather run no spacer if possible, but I’m open to adding a spacer (front and/or rear) if that’s what it takes to clear.
Has anyone run this wheel/tire size (or close to it) on a GR Yaris? Trying to find out:
1. Does it clear stock without a spacer?
2. If not, what spacer thickness cleared it for you?
3. Any rubbing on coilovers/struts or fender lips with the 245 A7 at that offset?
Pics or specs from anyone who’s actually test-fit this combo would be huge. Thanks!

ADRO GR Yaris

Haven’t seen many people post this aerokit. The fitment is literally perfect for every part but I seriously need my new rims and tires to arrive…

Toyota Sweden is listing the wrong torque for 2026, and refuses to update their website

I have contacted Toyota multiple times over this and they refuse to update their website. They are listing the incorrect torque output for the 2026 Gr Yaris models and they are in violation of EU regulations. I would expect that they will also need to notify all 2026 owners that their car has 345nm and not 390nm. I am posting this here in the hopes that some public pressure will get them to fix their website. The lack of initiative and follow through in Sweden, in general, is absurd (I live there as does half my family).

Missing engine bolt Gen2

To the left of the cover. Noticed a space where a bolt looks like it should be. Fallen off?
