Indian student considering University of A Coruña – life in Galicia?

Hi everyone,

I'm an Indian software engineer and I'm considering applying for a master's program in HPC at the University of A Coruña next year.

As I have no friends or relatives living there in an around spain, I am worried about the transition and integration into this new one.

I wanted to ask a few questions about living in Galicia

are there many Indian students or professionals in A Coruña or nearby cities?

How welcoming is the city for international students?

Is it possible to manage daily life with basic Spanish while improving it over time, or is fluent Spanish necessary from the beginning?

How are the job opportunities for international graduates after completing a master's degree?

Would you recommend A Coruña as a good place to stay after graduation, or do most graduates move to cities like Madrid or Barcelona?

I'd really appreciate hearing from both locals and international students who have experience living or studying there.

Thank you very much!

Cies islands: permits

In the day I am interested, there is only 1 slot available, and i travel with my kid (which also requires a separate permit).

Do you know by chance if i can get the permits for "camper" instead? what would be the difference?

any other solution/secondary market? or going there by guided tour?

Irish and/or Scots in Galicia?

I recently moved with my family to Lugo and I was wondering if there is much of an Irish population in Galicia? There are several local GAA branches spread across Galicia (which was an eye opener) and a few Irish bars but no other visible sign. I also lived in Edinburgh for years and years, so if there are any Caledonians about we're much of a muchness.

Is it easy to make friends among the Latin immigrants in Vigo?

I’m from South America and I’m not making any friends in Andalusia. they are super nice and all but impossible to make real friends with the locals.

The foreign community here is mostly north European and we don’t click either. seems like they prefer their own.

I’ve heard that Vigo has a large Latin American community and I’m wondering if it’s easy to make friends among them , as Galicians seem to be closed off.

im looking for community.

Xa está online o videoxogo da Costa da Morte que se presentou onte: os 17 concellos do territorio e bosses baseados en lendas reais. Gratis no navegador.

Nada inventado.

No navegador, móbil ou ordenador, sen descargar nada.

Pareceume que por aquí podía interesar. Calquera opinión ou feedback, benvido.

Buses

Road trip around Galicia - #1 priority is food

We (~40yo couple from NYC) are planning a road trip around Galicia in mid- or late October with the primary objective of eating well. For us this means ingredient-forward and often simple cooking, but we certainly wouldn't mind adding a couple finer spots to the mix. We will plan everything else—nature, cultural sites, beaches, architecture—around what works best in relation to the food we're seeking out. We have no must-see sites and are trusting that we'll be able to find beautiful landscapes on our route.

We will rent a car and would like to spend at least half the time outside of big cities, but we know that's sometimes where the good food is. We're currently planning for 8–12 days, which will include a few days in Porto (likely our origin/return point). We know we want to go to D'berto in O Grove and that we should probably spend a 2–3 days in Santiago. Everything else, we're open! Here are my questions:

  • Where would our best bases be? We don't mind moving around, so we're considering 2 other bases in Galicia in addition to Santiago. Maybe one in the rias area and one in the northeast of the region?
  • Food recommendations, of course. This could be a specific restaurant, or a special dish of a sub-region, or just a town where the eating is good. Only one of us drinks so wine/wineries are not a priority.

Thank you!
