Drive by shoppers

Something I do not understand regarding those who go to yard sales / garage sales.

I live on the end of a cul de sac. Have yard sale signs all around the neighborhood. Many drive through slowly then just drive away. Can you really tell what’s being offered simply by driving by?

Please be brutally honest, is it rude to ask sellers if they are a bug-free house?

I love flea markets and garage sells and I've never had an issue out of anything I've ever bought, but I've recently developed a phobia of picking up pests off second hand items. Would it be rude to ask people this question, I would be afraid they would think im judging the cleanliness of what I'm buying, however this is not the case. i'm just severely ocd about these kinds of things

Was this a good find?

Found this German clock at a garage sale for $20. All parts are in a separate bag and just need to be reattached. Was this a good find?

How often do people sell photograph negatives at estate sales?

I enjoy old photographs but more specifically the negatives from old photos. Antique malls usually have lots of old photos but never negatives. Do you guys come across them often or know the best places to get negatives?

Quick tip for garage sales: add cheap bulk items to boost margins

Hey everyone,

If you're planning a yard or garage sale, here is a quick tactic to boost your totals. Dedicate just one table to cheap, brand-new "impulse buy" items bought in bulk. People love digging through old stuff, but they rarely pass up a brand-new handy tool, a pack of microfibers, or pet toys.

I’ve been testing this by grabbing small lots of general merchandise from US wholesale closeout sites. I usually compare prices between Kole Imports and Dollar Item Direct. Kole is great for bulk pet supplies and auto/tools closeouts, while Dollar Item Direct has good lots for toys and party supplies.

You can buy batches of carded items for pocket change per unit and flip them for $1 to $3. Since they are brand new in packaging, they fly off the tables much faster than used items.

Has anyone else tried mixing wholesale closeouts into their sales, or do you stick strictly to secondhand items?
