Why is garen better rn in high elo

Garen has a 53.5% winrate in emerald+ but only a 52.2% winrate in all ranks. Why is this 'low elo champion' performing better in high elo then low elo?

Garen mid is fun and broken

I've been playing Garen mid for a few weeks now, and I honestly think the pick is completely broken. At least in my humble Gold elo.

There aren't really any unplayable matchups (I ban vlad every game). The first few levels can be rough, especially if your opponent knows how to punish your lack of range.

Once you hit level 6, though, you've usually stacked enough W passive resistances to become almost unkillable for most mid laners. At that point, almost nobody can contest your waveclear with E + Tiamat. Kind of like Akshan, I instantly delete the wave and immediately look for a roam.

Roaming is also super easy since you're building full movement speed. Then once the mid game starts, split pushing becomes incredibly straightforward thanks to mobility and tankiness.

I also think the pick scales well. It's honestly one of the most fun picks I've played in a while.

Garen w question

Am I blind or is there no way to tell when garens w damage reduction ends as someone who is laning against Garen? The lack of a clear indicator is just stupid to me. Also, his q should probably also have an indicator for when his move speed ends although that is easier to see

What does Garen do against Yorick after level 6 and mid-game?

Not even asking what to do if I fall behind, the game feels over for me if that happens. But what do after level 6 and during mid-game if we're "even"? I'm putting it in brackets because I don't feel like I can do anything against him at that point.

Do I just hug my towers and coinflip for a better team? Because I can't group at that point, he just eats the whole row of defensive structures.

I know I'm supposed to get a lead before level 6, but that's not always possible.

I feel useless on Garen and I don't know why.

https://op.gg/lol/summoners/euw/Denys-4fun

No matter what I do - I lose on this champion. It feels like I can't do anything - I can't teamfight because I get blown up, I can't splitpush because my team fights 4v5, I can't lane because I feel weak, I can't proxy because I get collapsed.

Is this champion just not for me? Something's just not clicking. It's not supposed to be this hard. I can play with a blindfold in this rank on Malzahar and win over half of my games.

What am I doing wrong? I feel like I'm doing everything wrong, but I don't know what. How is that even possible?

Hear me out, TWO PHANTOM DANCERS

We get the initial phantom dancer during the normal build path and then trade in boots for the second phantom dancer during endgame. This way we have an extra 25% crit potentially totally 50 or 75 percent crit. Also the two phantom dancers would totally negate the MS loss from losing boots AND it would grant 35% more AS than with just a berserker greave.

This raises both damage cause of crit and attack speed for spins

Going to try this as I am always uber fed from splitting

What exactly makes Garen "beginner friendly"?

I'm new and genuinely confused.

I get chunked to half health by ranged champions if I accidently try to grab the wrong minion. Then they poke me out of lane under my own tower.

I lose extended fights against most melee champions. It's counterintuitive that a The Might of Demacia has to play hit-and-run and whittle them down to have a chance.

I low key suck at team-fighting? At least in the traditional "beginner friendly" sense where a Fighter goes in and can survive long enough to stay in. Again, it's counterintuitive that you have to flank and do hit-and-run assassin shenanigans.

One could argue it's the simplicity of his kit and lack of difficult combos that's "beginner friendly". But yet again, his kit is counterintuitive - it's not obvious how it's supposed to be piloted. The kit makes you think you're supposed to walk at people and kill them, but it just doesn't support that function?

So what exactly makes Garen beginner friendly? What am I missing here? Genuine question.

As a beginner I'm currently finding Sett way more straightforward and therefore easier to pilot and be way more useful with.

CD Reduction Garen goes hard

D3 ranked NA, could've done better but, my goal was just to kill naafiri because it was the strongest on their team and their win condition, while they were all on me we got free soul and ended the game

Best garen x lux fanfics?

I found this one and it was okay (but it isnt really a monogamous pairing which is what I prefer), but I am having difficulty finding good garen x lux fics. They dont have to be nsfw, just looking for some good fanfics for this pairing. Any recommendations?

u/spez: Okay so nobody is posting recommendations. What sub is best to get them? I tried r/lux and r/leaguelegends. Is there a better for this sort of wuestion?

How to trade with Darius lvl 6?

I’ve played against him a few times these past few weeks, and I just can’t find the right time to trade with him when both of us have ult.

Usually, I can play around other champions’ abilities and kill them in two rotations, saving W for their big damage. But against Darius, it feels like it doesn’t really matter how we trade; he wins every time in just one rotation. I know he’s an all-in champion, but still.

Now, talking about micro: it feels impossible to make him waste his pull, which in my opinion is his most valuable ability. Darius players either save it for when my E ends, so I lose ghost collision, or they pull right after I use Q and then do their combo. I usually use W when I feel like he is about to pull me. I haven’t tested it enough, but using W after getting pulled to mitigate damage from his Q seems worse because I’ll already be at least at 3 stacks by then.

I’m used to putting only 1 point into Q, which I’m starting to think might be my biggest mistake in this matchup.

What are your best strategies against him? I don’t really want to waste a ban on him. I feel like this matchup is playable if done correctly.

For runes, I always go Conqueror/sorcery secondary. Nothing unusual.

Conqueror vs Stormraider's Surge

I always thought these are just optimizations for specific matchups and comps, but recently I watched a coach chippys video where I realized these are simply two different playstyles the champion has. So my question is, which playstyle would you say is more consistent? which one should I learn and focus on?

for context, I play conqueror garen in 90% of my games, I swap to stormraider's surge only when im against ranged champions. recently tho, the stormraider's surge playstyle has been catching my interest so I wanna know if it's worth learning.

Commando or Rugged Garen

So I have been picking up garen recently and I'm wondering which skin is the best to rage bait my opponent while I do handstands in lane. I've been playing since S4 so I have commando and rugged. What do you guys think. I'm not looking for the best skin from an artistic or coolness perspective, just the most janky rage inducing handstand I can find.

Is Conqueror damage noticeable mid/late game?

So I'm still internally debating whether to play Conqueror or Stormraider. I can't just swap depending on the matchup like a normal person because I need consistency, so I have to pick one.

Anyway, regarding Conqueror - do you actually feel its damage in the mid game? Part of me wants to say yes, but I'm really not sure at all and I'm also like Iron or something so I can't even trust myself.

I definitely like Conqueror's damage in lane, but 9 times out of 10 I get destroyed in lane anyway, so I'm wondering if it's at least a good rune for mid/late game or not.
