Garmin Edge
Should I buy the Garmin Edge 1050 or wait for the 1060? It's not something I'm in a huge rush to get, but I do think that with a 1050 I'd have what I need, but I'm worried about missing out on the 1060.

I have an Edge 840, and three bikes that each have their own speed sensor. Riding with my wife tomorrow and she wants to take one (my hardtail MTB), and I’ll probably take my fat bike.
If I start a ride connected to my fat bike sensor and we’re riding in close proximity, will the Edge “lock” to the fat bike sensor, or is it going to be potentially switching back and forth? I know I could pop the sensor off, just curious if anyone knew how it worked.

Edge 540. Software version 31.29
I'm constantly seeing both my HRM Dual and Assioma Duo disconnect from Edge 540 during activities, both indoor and outdoor. Never happens with my Wahoo Bolt. This has been ongoing with my Edge since I bought it over a year ago.
I've contacted customer support. They sent a link to show me how to log an activity when the disconnection happens. I've sent 2 mails since the original but not getting replies back now.
It's incredibly frustrating. Does anyone know how to fix this? Seems common enough issue but none of the suggested fixes I've seen online work (bar turning off Bluetooth on my phone, which totally defeats the purpose of having Bluetooth sync functionality). Besides, I shouldn't have to do this on a piece of kit that costs as much as the Edge 540.
Thanks in advance
Hello, I am new to the whole bike computers thing and I recently got a new Garmin edge 840 because I saw reviews and posts that is a very good unit with great battery life, better than 850. But I think the battery life of my unit is less than advertised.
For example, today I did road cycling for 4,5 hours and it went from 100% to 80%. Is that normal? Isn’t it supposed to last about 30 hours?
I didn’t use navigation today, but I have hr chest strap connected and power meter pedals (favero) all with ant+. Also I carry my phone with me and I think it auto connects to the Bluetooth but I don’t know what impact this has on battery.
Also, I noticed that while I completely power it off after rides, I find it loses 1-2% after some days.
Is this behavior normal or I should return it? Thanks
(Running the latest software update)
I had a situation today but also before.
I went on a 58 km ride today. At around 20 km mark we stopped for a coffee. Paused the ride on the Edge, took it from the mount and locked/ sleep the edge.
20 mins later when I went back, sensors won't connect (HR, speed, cadence, varia). Tapping "connect" manually didn't help either. The Edge was also very laggy, would hit the ON button and turn on a minute later.
One thing that happened while I was sitting in the first minute was that the edge kept connecting/ disconnecting from the sensors (and making all the annoying sounds)
The only thing that "fixed" the issue was stopping, finishing, saving, turn off completely, turn on but then I got 2 rides I had to merge later and had ~5km without sensors and without varia whilst I was on a 70kms road (not very busy luckily, I'd say busier with bikers and motorcycles)...
Is there any way to prevent this?
Not sure if this is completely obvious to everybody but me, but it turns out you can rotate the quarter turn mount on an outfront mount by 90 degrees easily.
All you need to do is unscrew the quarter turn mount and screw it back in the other set of holes.
My wife recently got a trike and we were trying to figure out a good way to mount her 1030, when I noticed the screws.
there's a bit of chat on a few rumour sites that a new Garmin cycling computer has been added to regulatory databases in UAE & Malaysia so obviously people are speculating this is either an Edge 1060 (hopefully!) or a 1050 Solar (not too interested in that personally)
whatever it is, will it be released this month? Have to wait and see 🤣
I have an Edge 1050 and Dura Ace Di2.
After getting my Di2 firmware updated, I can now use "Front Shift Next", which frees up my Left Y input to use as D-Fly and use for whatever via my Edge.
I also have my left and right "A" buttons set as D Fly channels (So 3 D-Fly in total)
For both "A" inputs, the left and right default to this:
Single Press: Prev/Next Page
Double Press: Prev/Next Page
Long Press: Prev/Next Page
I not only want to assign these to different things (all good, that works fine), but I also want double press to be "Unassigned" - there is no option for this.
When connecting my Left Y input via D Fly to my Edge, all 3 (single, double and long press) come up as "Unassigned", so I know unassigned/null/undefined is a possible value for these keys.
I assume this happens because the two "A" buttons are the usual suspects for people to use for D-Fly, so Garmin has added defaults.
Whereas my Left "Y" being used as D-Fly is not a common thing, so they've not added defaults.
Is there a bug where the "Unassigned" option is missing from the list?
I am running latest firmware on the 1050.
Many thanks for any help
Last year I sold my 830 as I was going to update.
Problem now is I can’t decide which to update to..
My main issue with the 830 was poor guidance when following a route in the woods. I only used this feature one week a year when riding in the Alps. The rest of the time it’s just tracking rides.
How is the Edge for route guidance compared to the x30 series? I’d read in a review that the x50 series is much better..
The MTB is most tempting due to price point, size and the Enduro/DH gates feature. But the 840 is tempting as I know the touchscreen is way more convenient. Has the 840 received the enduro/DH floated features?
Or should I just bite the bullet and get the 850?
Thanks
I want to spend no more than $700CAD.
I’m really between a Garmin Edge 840 ($550), Edge 850 ($700), Wahoo Roam or Ace (around or just below $700) or Hammerhead Karoo ($700).
(And, just for the sake of argument, I can get an Edge 1050 for $839).
The only other inputs I’m using now are a Coros HR monitor and Garmin Varia radar.
I’m not otherwise tied to any brand.
I want good/clear navigation on roads and light trails in the city. Since I’m using it for some nav, screen can’t be tiny, but I don’t think that’s an issue with any.
I’d like reliable live tracking (for my wife’s peace of mind), but if I carry my phone, it also has that.
I’d like incident/crash detection, as I’m riding solo a lot. On that note, I see that the Karoo doesn’t have it natively built in but there may be a third party app. Not sure if it’s any good…
Hello, looking for some advise on uppgrading from the Edge 840 to 850. I will start by saying price isn't really a factor, since i can get a good discount thru work and i will also sell my old device.
Reasons i want to uppgrade:
- The integrated bike bell (No, i will not put a physical bell on my bike)
- The faster processor, my 840 is SLOW
- Integrated trailforks on the regular map, i cant get trailforks to work properly on my 840
- Rainmap (if it works?)
- The nicer, more vibrant screen is a nice touch also
The only downside i see is battery life, which is around 10-12h. My longest rides are around 5h, so battery life per ride is not a problem. I will however have to charge more often, every week vs every other week, that should not be a problem though. The battery lifespan should not be a problem either, as the battery is replaceable.
So, do you think the 850 would work for me ?
Hello - I noticed recently on my edge 840 that the grade % is lagging. So I’ll be on a climb and it’s still showing the grade from a few feet back…. Then it shows me the climb grade once I’m back on flat. I downloaded my maps offline using garmin express, installed any available updates, etc…. Anyone else ever experience this? And what’s the fix?
A eMTB ride using the Bosch connector appears fine on my edge 1050. It will however not synch to Garmin connect. Force synch runs ok, no errors, but ride not showing on connect. Running lastest beta sw. any ideas ?
When I power off my Garmin 1050 it continues to show the power off icon.
Happens repeatedly.
Anyone else?
How do you avoid?
I can’t keep resetting it multiple times guessing when it will truly power off.
What a PITA this device has been.
Ready to go back to my older model.
Hi all, i am a new owner of a Garmin Edge 1050 - it replaces a 1030 which had one too many offs and the rear lock broke 😞
Does anyone know of a desktop mount which would be available to buy that could support charging via the back connectors as opposed to the usb-c charging port?
