Problem with HRM 200 and Edge530

Hey, I have got a problem with my HRM200 and Edge 530. When I try to connect it, the led light is blinking 3times green, and on the Edge screen it is written "Connected", after a few seconds the led light starts blinking red.
Can someone tell me what happened and how to solve this problem?

EDIT: I have reset HRM200 and Edge.

No heart rate data

I’ve been using an Edge 840 with a Polar H10 heart rate strap connected with ANT+. It has been flawless through nearly 3 seasons. During today’s ride, my heart rate was displayed but no heart rate was recorded. Anyone know what’s going on?

ClimbPro question - 850

I really like ClimbPro; it gives me a lot of information that I value when I'm on a climb. But I wonder what criteria are used to determine that something is a climb worth its name. There are some pieces of road that really feel like a climb to me, but that my 850 doesn't designate as a climb. Conversely, there are some sections that Garmin calls a climb that I do not feel deserving of that designation (not really a problem, but noteworthy). For the climbs that the 850 does not recognize, is there a way that I can designate them as ClimbPro worthy?

Load a new course mid-ride?

Started a ride with a planned course but got detoured. Had another course I wanted to change to but didn’t want to stop the ride and save..

Is there a way to keep the ride active and change the course?

Garmin Edge 830 – no map coverage after crossing a border

Hello,

I do road cycling and I have a Garmin Edge 830. All the maps are up to date, including the Europe maps, and they are all enabled.

I live in France and I also ride in Belgium. When I cross the border, the Belgian map displays correctly for a few kilometres, but then it completely disappears and the map becomes blank. As a result, the GPS can no longer give me navigation instructions.

If I zoom out, I can clearly see that France is covered by the map, but Belgium is not.

Does anyone know how I can fix this issue?

Thanks

Garmin Edge 850 isn't reliable

Is it just me or is the Garmin Edge 850 not reliable at all?

I've bought the Garmin Edge 850 a few weeks ago, it's my first bike computer and I was expecting a lot from it, especially given the price. However, everything is soo frustrating and not reliable.

The French translation is just terrible, I had to switch to English because everything just reads auto-translated.

The ui of the bike computer itself is ok-ish, but the app, the desktop site as well as the laptop app are just terrible, especially in 2026.

Sometimes, navigation doesn't start, I have to click "Pause navigation" and resume again to have the directions. And sometimes, "Pause navigation" doesn't work and navigation keeps going, which is annoying.

There's the possibility to control the phone's music.. great but if I try to pause or skip to the next song, nothing happens (it only works sometimes, and in the rare case it happens there's a huge delay)

ClimbPro? I was exited about it and it was on of the main reasons for me to buy a bike computer, but the elevation curve is difficult to read and often doesn't match the road. Sometimes I see a negative slope on the bike computer while I'm clearly climbing, sometimes it's just varying when the slope is constant, etc. So not useable to adapt my effort.

The physical buttons don't always match what's displayed on the screen. When I'm displaying the full screen map, there's a button to go back on the bottom left corner, but if I click on the bottom left button, it's changing the zoom level.

I get useless notifications to remind me to eat / drink all the time even if I disable it in the settings (maybe I've found a solution for this actually, but as usual not intuitive at all).

And I could continue the list for a long time :/ For a device this expensive, this is really terrible.

Now I'm wondering if getting the garmin was the right choice at all. Is there any hope this will get fixed at some point? Would it have been better with other devices such as the wahoo? I don't have any other garmin device expect the radar so I'm not locked into the ecosystem.

Edge explorer 1 in 2026

Hello i need help with deciding i’m interested in buying garmin edge explorer for approximately 100€ but is it worth buying it in 2026? I know it doesn’t have ClimbPro which I’m sad about but it’s all that my budget currently allows. So is it worth the money or should i stick to tracking rides on my watch?

Edge 1050: latest update has made it even worse...

Some time ago I wrote a long post to provide feedback about the edge 1050 over almost over year.

I'm moderately happy with the device overall considering the high price, but at least the most basic functions kinda worked well.

Since then, the device had like 2 updates, and the last one has really degraded even the basic functionality of just following a route.

Some days ago I created a 200 km ride on Strava and sent it to the Edge. No problem, the route appears with the right distance and elevation change.

While following the route though, after 160 km the Edge decided that the route was complete. The rest of the route was nonexistent, although the distance in the route stats was correct. The unit persisted in considering the ride was over, well before the actual end.

End route/ reload route: no effect. Power off / power on / reload route: same... This never happened to me before, even on longer rides.

I'm starting to really becoming pissed off. I paid like 500€ for this device and updates after updates, it's degrading, not improving. I really wish Garmin would be more serious!

I'll probably submit a ticket to the support, but the experience is really frustrating, as this adds up to a lot of other existing frustrating imperfections and glitches...

The fact is that now I don't trust the device. I want reliability, and it's simply not reliable.

EDIT: Forgot to mention I also lost the SMS notifications on the device, also very annoying!

How to stop updating a map on the 1050?

So yesterday I checked the map manager and found out that there is quite a significant update to my map of Europe with a file size of around 20 GB. I started the installation process on the device itself via WLAN but quickly noticed that it would take 10+ hours to update. Additionally the 1050 went into standby like every 10 minutes which discontinued the download so I would have needed to keep it manually alive for 10+ hours to finish the Update. Therefore I connected the 1050 to my Laptop, powered up Garmin Express and installed the map in 30 minutes or so.

The issue seems to be that the 1050 does not recognize that map now is already updated. It continues the process of updating the map. I tried a to power it down and all that but no luck. It will always continue the downloading process with the issues I experienced before (more than 10 hours; standby every couple of minutes).

So how can I stop this?

Garmin Edge 1040 vs Edge 850 – Which one should I choose?

Hi everyone,

I’m currently trying to decide between the Garmin Edge 1040 and the Edge 850, and I’d really appreciate some feedback from people who have actually used either one — or even better, both.

I ride about 3 times a week and use Favero Assioma PRO RS-2 power meter pedals.

My main priorities are:

Navigation, which I use a lot on my rides

ClimbPro, as I’d really like to use it to anticipate climbs, gradients and remaining elevation

A screen that’s easy to read while riding, especially for maps and data fields

Power and training data

Good battery life, although I don’t really do ultra-distance rides

The 1040 appeals to me mainly because of its larger 3.5" screen and excellent battery life.

On the other hand, the 850 is newer and more compact, and its screen seems much sharper and more modern, although it is smaller.

For those who have used both: does the larger screen on the 1040 make a significant difference for navigation and ClimbPro?

And on the other hand, does the higher-resolution screen and newer interface of the 850 make up for its smaller size?

If you were buying one today mainly for navigation + ClimbPro + training with a power meter, which one would you choose and why?

Thanks for your help! 🚴

No adaptive training plan for cycling??

I wanted to double check with fellow Garmin users - did Garmin remove the adaptive training plans for cycling from GC? I only see plans for running that are adaptive - rest all are static!!

I’m using Fenix 5x Plus + Edge 530.
Can someone help me identify if there exist any adaptive cycling plan in Garmin ecosystem!!

Transferring and using tracks for (turn by turn) navigation without Connect app?

Hi, I'm currently looking for a cycling computer that will (turn by turn) navigate me based on gpx tracks planned with a web based tool (bikerouter.de) on my PC.

The nuance is, I cannot/don't want to use an app like Connect for transferring the gpx files.

So I need the possibility to transfer the gpx file "old style" directly from my PC via cable or BT. It seems this can be done with the Edge Explore 2? But will the device (alone) be able to create a route for turn by turn navigation based on my gpx track? Or is it dependent on the Connect app to accomplish this?

Topo Great Britian Maps no longer compatible with (all) Edge devices

Anyone tried the Topo Great Britain (Ordance Survey) maps on a Garmin Edge 1050?

https://www.garmin.com/en-GB/p/562503/#

I had them on my 1040 and they worked a treat. Great for gravel and MTB riding in the UK.

When I moved to the 1050 I noticed that the Topo Great Britain maps are no longer listed as compatible for any Edge device (Inc the 1040 which I'd had them for years!)

Every other country's Topo maps are compatible with Edge devices, just not the UK version?

If they weren't so expensive I'd give it a punt, but I'm a bit worried Garmin won't refund if they genuinely don't work.

Garmin Edge Explore 2 battery drain — normal?

Hi everyone,

I’ve just got a new Edge Explore 2 and charged it to 100%. I’ve been setting it up, creating/saving routes and going through the menus, but haven’t actually been on a ride yet.

It’s now dropped to 93%.

Is this normal during setup and general use, or should I be concerned? Would you recommend fully powering it off and checking how much it loses overnight?

What would you suggest?

Thanks!

Do I need to fully charge my Garmin Edge before first use?

Hi everyone,

I’ve just got a Garmin Edge Explore 2 and was wondering whether I should fully charge it to 100% before using it for the first time.

Is there any benefit to doing this, or is it perfectly fine to set it up and use it straight away with whatever charge it has out of the box?

Just want to make sure I’m treating the battery properly from the start.

Thanks!

Beginner here: which Garmin is actually worth it?

Hey everyone,

I’m a beginner cyclist looking to buy my first bike computer, but there are so many options out there that I’m a bit overwhelmed. 😅

Which Garmin (or other brand) do you think offers the best value for money right now? I'm mainly looking for something that:

  • is easy to use;
  • has reliable GPS;
  • supports Strava;
  • doesn’t cost €500+.

At the moment, I mostly ride recreationally, and I’d like to be able to track my rides, follow simple navigation routes, and review my stats afterward.

I’d love to hear your experiences and find out which models you’d buy again.

Thanks! 🚴‍♂️🚴‍♀️

I made a free local browser tool to race Garmin Live Segments against specific past efforts

Hi all,

I ride the same local trails and segments quite often and like racing against myself using Garmin/Strava Live Segments. It adds a bit of competition to solo rides after a hard day behind a desk.

What frustrated me is that the targets available on my Edge are fairly limited:

  •  KOM (impossible...)
  • My PR (often set in perfect conditions or during a group ride, so not realistic on a normal day)
  • Occasionally "Last" or "Recent Best," although those don't always seem to be available.
  • Race against a previous activity is not a good alternative since segments only cover a fraction of the total ride.

What I actually want is to race against a specific previous effort on that segment. For example:

  • my best muddy and dry MTB rides
  • my best tailwind and headwind ride for road
  • my best solo and group rides
  • or simply a ride from a particular date that I know is a realistic benchmark.

After digging into the technical details of FIT files, I made a Python script for my own Edge 530 that replaces the default segment targets with my own previous efforts. On my Edge I can now store historical segment efforts and give them labels like "Mud," "Dry," or a ride date instead of only PR/KOM, and I can pick which one to race before or during the segment.

It worked reliably on my 530, and a few cycling friends liked it too, so I thought there might be more riders who would find it useful.

The Python script was not very user friendly so I made it into a simple free tool where all the processing is done locally in the browser so no need to upload FIT files.

The tool has two main options:

  • Create a new segment from an activity FIT file. You can add other activities in which you rode the same segment and choose which historical efforts you want to include as targets.
  • Modify an existing segment FIT file already on your Garmin. You can add targets from other activities in which you rode the same segment. The downside is that Strava may overwrite the modified segment again after synchronization.

I tested it on my 530 and my friends’ 830 and 1040. I believe it should work on all models after the 520/820 generation, but curious if the latest generations might have compatibility issues.

I tried to make the workflow as easy as possible, but can’t avoid the required manual transfer to the Garmin Edge folder GARMIN/NEWFILES/.

I hope you have fun with it. If you try it, feedback, suggestions and bug reports are welcome, especially if something behaves differently on another Edge model.

You can find it at segmentpace.com

Better then Edge 820

I have an edge 820 already for several years. it's quite okay for recording rides/routes.

But some things really bother me, mostly the bad touch screen and the slow system/navigation.

Often touches are not registered and you need to press really firmly.

and the most awful part is navigation. I have a small local map (open cycle map lite) and when I load a gpx route(35km) it takes several minutes to calculate the navigation. then while riding panning and zooming is not usable because it takes several seconds to reload the screen. same thing happens when I'm cycling, when I ride forward the map needs to load the new section if that happens at the same time of a bend you really have no idea where you need to go.

what I do is just make the route visible on the maps and don't activate navigation for it.

now the question: are newer edge models really better? and what about the explorer 2?

I have a race and city bike, but I really don't need the fancy training metrics from the edge. I'm mostly looking for ease of use. is the explorer the go to model for a city bike? The 400 euro prices of the edge 550 is really to steep for my usage.

Dare not to ask on this sub, what about other brands? anything worth looking into?
