Sharing for anyone who wants to weigh in on Wake County’s landfill plans

For anyone in Wake County who hasn’t seen this yet, the county is asking for feedback about what should happen after the South Wake Landfill reaches capacity, including whether Wake County should build a new landfill.

They’re gathering feedback through August 31, so figured I’d share before it ends! Here’s the virtual room: https://gather.cdmsmith.com/v/KNj9ZVa4qxB

Avoid Treeline Timber Creek apartments

Like most apartment complexes they arent great in general but the company that just bought out the property have done a particularly stupid move.

They just blocked & painted 'reserved' on 4 spots in front of each building and are now trying to get people to pay $360/yr to park in those spots. We've all seen stupid Premium subscriptions shoved in our faces on all kinds of streaming services (all the Hulu but with no commercials BS).

I'm not stupid enough to hope that nobody pays for it but I sure hope that enough residents don't take the bait and leave the office with wasted parking spaces.

I paid your stupid tax for the year so you don’t have to. 🤦‍♀️

July 23rd, I was approached in the Lowe’s hardware parking lot (1575 US-70, Garner) by a white male (early 30s) with a Eastern European accent driving a white Jeep with Massachusetts plates carrying several passengers.

He offered me “new” Apple AirPods and an Apple Watch Ultra 3 in convincing shrink-wrapped Apple boxes. He even demonstrated the watch pairing with what appeared to be the Apple Watch app. Since I didn’t have cash, he followed me to the Family Fare gas station (1535 NC-50) ATM, where I withdrew $200 for the watch and two pairs of AirPods.

The AirPods work but sound questionable. The watch is 100% counterfeit. It directs you to download VVfit instead of using Apple’s Watch app, has a fake part number (MF0M4LL/8), and uses a cloned Apple serial number that even shows valid AppleCare.

I’m reporting it to Garner PD, the NC Attorney General, and Apple.

If someone in a white Jeep with Massachusetts plates offers you “brand new” Apple products for cash, keep driving. I paid the stupid tax so hopefully you don’t have to.

One of those jobs that makes all the stress of building a business worth it

One of those jobs that makes all the stress of building a business worth it

I’m still working full-time while trying to build my junk removal business on the side, and honestly, I’m learning everything as I go.

Sales, marketing, answering messages, quoting jobs, scheduling, doing the actual work, keeping customers happy…all of it.

Last week, I scheduled an estimate while I was on break at Amazon. After my shift, I met Roderick at his property and walked everything with him. We talked about what he wanted to accomplish, what needed to be removed, and how I could help him get the property back under control.

I sent him a quote for $475 based on the amount of stuff, plus the extra labor because it was spread out all over the property. He accepted it, and Sunday morning worked best for him, so that’s when we scheduled it.

The job took around three hours. Some of the trash was buried in tall grass and weeds, so I brought a weed eater just to knock everything down enough to get to it and make sure I wasn’t leaving anything behind.

After I finished, Roderick walked the property with me and was genuinely excited about finally being able to start fresh again.

He paid the $475 with no problem, tipped me another $50, and left me a five-star review.

So, $525 for a Sunday morning of work.

I know that’s not some crazy “quit your job overnight” number, but it felt like a big win to me. I booked the estimate during my break, met him after working a full shift, quoted the job correctly, completed it, and left the customer happy.

Trying to build something while working a regular job can be exhausting. Some days it feels like you’re working two full-time jobs and still wondering if it’s ever going to turn into something.

Then you have a day like this, and it reminds you why you started.
