Blicavs' importance to Geelong for such a long time, and what happens when he's gone?

Just a random thought that's been simmering away in my head today.

The other day on the Agenda Setters, I think it was, they were highlighting the amount of work that Blicavs did all around the ground, and especially in the ruck, playing almost a tagging role on Max Gawn.

This really supports my view of many years that Blitz is arguably Geelong's most important player when it comes to stability around the ground, and it's been that way for half a decade.

I may be wrong in saying this, but I feel that whenever he isn't in the team, it hurts us really badly.

Now, this guy's 35 and though i feel that he definitely deserves another year on a contract, there's someone who (though probably has a little ways to go to get to his level) is pinned as the Blicavs replacement.

And that is (maybe obviously to some) Sam DeKoning. As much as I used to hate him playing the ruck role, he has gotten better year after year, and it definitely feels like a plan of transition to me thats developed over a few years. Him playing that unicorn role in the years to come under Chris Scott has been written on the wall for a few years now.

So does Mellor get a debut game against the tigers?

The bloke tore it up in a tough game in the vfl this week and we need small forwards so why not give him a crack. May not be the complete player yet but could come in handy if we cop injuries during the finals and would be good to see what he’s got at the top level.

The equation is simple. Win our last 2 and we're in the top 6

Thanks to Adelaide losing tonight, all Geelong have to do now to secure a spot in the **finals** (not including this wildcard nonsense) is to win their last 2.

If by any rare chance Brisbane were to lose their last 2 matches as well, Geelong could also possibly find their way into 4th with Melbourne having to lose 1 more game as well, but that's a pipe dream.

It's in the team's own hands now.

I don’t care what the “industry thinks”.

The media has fully blown this out of proportion & continue to do it, it’s the old tell poppy syndrome in full flight. The truth will all come out and many will have egg on their face.

Toby Greene

Everyone is getting excited over the what looks to be high chance of us getting Toby Greene, But where does he fit within our squad? Like I thought the only way it made sense is if danger called it at the end of the season but hes signed on for another year?
