Trying to find pasta fresh made in house

I don’t want it from a box or premade. I want like fresh dough shaped and cut then boiled in house pasta.

Bonus points if it comes with mussels in it.

Does this exist here?

Honden alleen laten tijdens vakantie?

Erasmus Internship

Hello community

I'm trying to get an erasmus+ internship in Belgium, I've sent emails to different universities, the common thing is that I have to find a professor that's willing to supervise me first, I've been contacting professors but ́ost of them do not respond.

Any idea on whom to contact please?

De app is gratis: waarisdiefiets.be , feedback is altijd welkom!

Gaming winkels Gent

Techno

Hello! I am visiting Ghent in September and was hoping to find a place that plays techno on the weekends. I was looking at Kompass but I can’t tell when they open for the season. Does anyone know when they usually re-open the inside or have any suggestions of where else to go?

Life @ Gent

Hi, I will be moving to Gent for 2-yr postdoc at the Gent University. My average net salary will be ~ € 3300/month. I am an Indian and I have stayed at London, Edinburgh and Taoyuan City previously. Went to Lyon and Paris. So Europe is not completely new to me while Belgium or Gent is !

Is there anyone here who would be kind enough to tell me how is life at Gent ? How much should I expect to spend monthly? Any idea of estimated monthly expenditure if I choose to live in a studio apartment? A break up of costs would be very helpful. What are some local attractions and cool places to visit and wind off ? Also please tell me more about Belgium and Gent that most websites do not mention explicitly but you think of them as extra perks or hidden treasures type.

Dank u wel!

I got harassed for being trans in Ghent, of all places

Visiting Belgium from the US as I’m considering moving here after receiving a job offer.

I’ve been here for roughly a week and a half (mostly Brussels and Wallonia, including the poorer and more rural areas) and have had no issues. Like at all, not even a weird look or interaction past some drunks by the bars in Brussels making a comment as I walked by one night. I was starting to think this was one of the few places I could just exist and have my default be assuming I’m fine and not notable, which isn’t very common in most of the US. I transitioned years ago, and while certain characteristics mean I’m unfortunately visibly a trans woman no one has been weird about it.

As I sat outside a casual food restaurant in the tourist area finishing my meal with my partner mid day this 20-something couple of white, blonde haired, Dutch looking people in punk clothing came in and sat down. They talked for a long time in Dutch and as the place quieted down it ended up just being us a few tables away and them.

The man seemed to start ranting in Dutch and suddenly I realized he switched to English. I heard him say something like “clean your shit up man” and looked up to see him getting louder and looking directly at me to say “I hope you die of aids, queer”. The woman he was with mockingly started saying “yaaas queen yaaaaas”.

I pretended to not understand them and looked back down. We left shortly after but I’m a bit stunned. I don’t really experience direct and targeted stuff like that even in the US, and for it to happen on the tail end of a good trip in GHENT of all places shocked me. I guess I hoped for better, but everywhere has bad people I suppose?

EDIT: Thanks to the person who reported me to reddit cares lol

Best parking strategy for one-nighter in Ghent

We'll be spending one night in Ghent on Tuesday and Wednesday, July 28 and 29. I'm wondering what the best parking strategy is for those two days. We'll be driving in with a rental car from the Netherlands, presumably with Dutch license plates. We'll be staying at a hotel in the city center. We're planning to just park the car somewhere when we get to Ghent (probably late morning on Tuesday), do everything walking, and then pick it up when we head out again on Wednesday evening/night.

After doing some research, these seem to be our main options:

  1. Park at P+R The Loop / Expo or P+R Watersportbaan (Zuiderlaan) and then take the bus into the city center. This will likely be the cheapest option. Can you leave a car at these P+Rs overnight? Is that safe? Would you recommend either of these P+Rs?

  2. Park at a parking garage. The ones closest to our hotel are Center Parking and Kouter, although Sint-Michiels and Savaanstraat are also pretty closeby. This will be more expensive (based on what I'm seeing, around €40 for about a day and a half), but within walking distance from the hotel and covered. Would you specifically recommend or discourage using any of these parking garages? Kouter seems better than Center Parking. I'm seeing a lot of complaints about Center Parking's very tight parking spots and super-low ceilings, and apparently you should really not back into a parking spot there.

Are there any other parking options that I didn't think of?

Is there anything about the Low-Emission Zone (LEZ) that I should know? Assuming that our rental care will have Dutch license plates, it seems that we won't need to register the vehicle beforehand. As noted, we'd just be driving into the LEZ to park the car in a parking garage on Tuesday morning and pick it up again to head out on Wednesday evening/night. Anything specific we should be aware of in this regard?

Thanks!

Any folk/jazz musicians?

Hoi iedereen! I (M34) am looking for folk/jazz musicians to jam with on a regular basis in a trio or quartet. I play guitar and piano and I sing. If anyone's interested in getting something together, let me know. Cheers!

American here - World Cup USA Vs Belgium on Monday night/Tuesday morning at 2:00 AM and I have questions

1.) Given this is a European nation, am I correct to assume bars will absolutely be open until 5:00 AM to show this game?

2.) Assuming I’m an American, but not a fucking loudmouth idiot, and assuming I just cheer along with you for Belgium to win, will I still likely get my ass kicked and be shit talked to for being an American at a bar in Belgium at 2:00-5:00 AM?

Desperate Times Desperate Measures

Hello everyone, I hope you’re having a nice week! I am a Masters graduate since October 2025 and am currently on a job search permit. My permit is expiring Oct 31, 2026 and it has been a nightmare applying to jobs in this AI-ridden slop market. I am writing here, trying my luck, to find anyone that is working in an international company that sponsors visas and could possibly do referrals or word of mouth.. I have B1 Dutch and speak fluent English and am looking for roles in sustainability/human rights/tech or digital policy/advocacy or public affairs. It would also be helpful to know what companies or organisations specifically are open to sponsoring visas since there is almost no reliable information I could find about this anywhere..

Please don’t hesitate to reach out as it would mean the world to me. I’ve built my career, life, and friend circle here in Europe for 5 years now, learned the languages, etc. and I would hate to leave and start all over again elsewhere :(

Thanks in advance <3

Visiting Ghent two days after Gentse feesten

We'll be spending one night in Ghent on Tuesday and Wednesday, July 28 and 29. I'm reading that the Gentse Feesten will end on Sunday, July 26. We'll be staying at a hotel in the city center. Is there anything we should be aware of? Will things have been cleaned up by Tuesday after the Gentse Feesten? Will some things still be closed? Or should things pretty much have be back to normal by Tuesday?

Thanks!
