Lets hear it for Norways "oldest player" ØRJAN NYLAND!!!

### What a performance! 🇳🇴

So many dicey moments Nyland could have easily faltered, but instead chose to rise up and secure Norway's path to victory.

The story will be told of Norway's first-ever Quarterfinal through the lens of Haaland's goals, but I'm here to give homage to the keeper who stood watch and denied all who dared to strike them down.

What a big time performance from an absolute beast!! What did you guys think of his positioning on that Guimarães penalty?

Has anyone here ever gone to therapy for the mental side of goalkeeping?

I've been a goalkeeper for around 14 years now. I've captained/played for teams that went to multiple finals… won some and lost some along the way.

The problem is that the losses seem to stick with me far more than the wins. I can still replay goals I conceded or finals we lost years later. Those moments have stayed with me much longer than I'd like, and I think they've affected the way I approach big games.

I'm curious if anyone here has gone to therapy or worked with a sports psychologist. Did it help? What changed for you? If you could share any tips/information to get your head back in the game.

How to avoid getting chipped?

First of all, excuse possible grammar mistakes.

I (22F) recently started playing football with some friends, pretty amateur level, just a bunch of people who get together 2x a week to play.

As no one wanted to be in goal, I've offered myself and ended up liking it. I think I'm fairly decent for our level, but I am pretty short (1,61m/5ft3). I conced chip shot goals quite often. Either because I'm to high on the pitch and I jump but can't get to the ball or because I misread the situation and think the ball is not going in.

Does anyone have any tips to avoid this? Positioning tips, exercises I can practice, etc.

Thanks! :)

Are Precision Goalkeeper gloves good I got them yesterday but haven’t put them on yet?

Just had our first ever event!

I can’t even describe how proud I am of us, just a little step that we took that was great, seeing the happiness in those kids e yes gave me even more hunger to continue even stonger, 5 groups of different ages But definetly the little one made my day, what was this I have no words to describe my feelings right now, this is just the beggining 🥹🙏

Does anything have a fix for this?

I tried sewing it back together as you can see but they ripped because the gloves stretch when I make a fist.

I was considering using some flexible glue or superglue to fix it this time.

Any advice?

These are Kelme brand gloves btw. The latex is pretty long lasting and scratch resistant but not sticky so I use off brand glove glue. And the stitching is maybe not the best because it rips along there.

New to the space, need to know where to start!

so I’ve recently started playing fifa due to a bit of pressure from my friends, and honestly it has helped me discover a genuine interest in the sport. i’ve been playing as just a goalkeeper in the game, like in the career mode and the online player lock modes. but admittedly i suck since i don’t have much knowledge on schemes and positioning and whatnot.

i’ve played and watched basketball my entire life so i’m using my knowledge on defense from that and trying to apply it to angles and whatnot, but it’s obviously not a 1:1 adjustment and i’m probably missing plenty of basic foundational concepts that’ll make a world of difference in-game.

I’ll probably watch some cup games soon but really i’d like to know what some of the best goalie performances are that i could watch and probably learn from. also anything else that could be helpful, like who’s good at positioning and 2v1 situations and all of that good stuff.

thanks!!

Getting back to it at 39

I have been thinking about getting back into goalkeeping after last playing when I was 23. If you can imagine I am excited at the idea l, but also a little nervous. (Can I play the position with at least some shred of dignity still).

I am not looking to play in a hyper competitive league or a completely casual league either.

But regardless, anyone have any tips on getting reconditioned to play the position again ( I am in pretty good shape for my age. Hard cardio and some lifting every week). Any drills, stretches, etc. Keep in mind I am mostly prepping solo until I find a team to join.

Also, I have not really kept up or know what kinds of equipment/brands are “good” for someone in my kind shoes. So I am open to any suggestions for this as well.

Thanks

How do I get better

So somehow I aced my soccer tryouts, which I wasn't expecting considering it's been 5 years since I last played. I don't know how far I am behind, but I'm sure it's pretty far. What are some things I should focus on?

World Cup: Are goalkeepers' skill floor higher than outfielders?

Sorry in advance if I do not articulate my thoughts well with the below.

Have been keenly following the 2026 world cup, and the goalkeepers of the lower-ranked teams (Vozinha, Eloy Room, Patrick Beach) have demonstrated they can hold their own versus the big teams' attackers. These goalkeepers are nowhere near the biggest European leagues, but have performed exceptionally well in the World Cup.

I have been thinking this for a while: is a goalkeeper of relatively weaker team more likely to do well as compared to his striker team-mate when they are up against a stronger team? If yes or no, why? I am inclined to say yes.

What do you do with old gloves?

And when do you make the decision when to retire a pair?

Seems a shame to bin these, and pairs like them.

I've noticed the grip on these isn't what it used to be but they've given me 7 months of playing on astroturf 1-3 times a week, and have served me well.

Thumb support

I partially tore a ligament in my thumb about 6 months ago, and have essentially been taping my thumb to reduce movement. It honestly works well, but was wondering if anyone knows of a thin thumb support I could put in my glove so I dont have to take the time before every training to tape my thumb

Confirmed the World Cup ball is a challenge

Someone brought a WC match ball to my league match this week, and it is pretty lively as some goalkeeper pundits have pointed out. It is super light for one, which doesn't help me catch. I have a lot of matches behind me and I don't let many get through me that I can get to. But I had a hard shot from the 18 make 3 direction changes. It started down to my right far enough that I would have to lay out and get one hand down ASAP as it was really moving, but then moved back towards me and got between my arm and body as I went down, hitting my wrist. Had I known where it would end up going I would have just slid my feet a yard and got down and scooped it with both arms. Embarrassing.

Question for Goalies

Hello, how often do goalies typically replace Toe Ties?
I’ve played and coached Hockey all my life, need to help out a goalie family with advance but I don’t know the answer.
Someone said every year, but at $25/each I find that high… no?

Nerves/performance pressure

I am 16(F) and have a very important tournament in 10 days. My weakness is mainly performance pressure. I get very nervous and tend to make mistakes under pressure. An added factor is that my teammates are very mean and never understand the position. But I really need advice on how to work under pressure - are there any books I should read, anything I should do to help this? I feel this pressure even in training because it's mostly my teammates yelling at me if I make a mistake. I really need help and I'm scared since there's not much time left.
