Thank you Gold Coast! Beautiful weekend for the Gold Coast marathon

Spent the weekend for the marathon. Stayed in Surfers Paradise and cycled around. Perfect weather and magnificent beaches. Took some pictures when I visited the Spit (hoping to see dolphins but didn't see any 😥). Will definitely visit again!

Thank you Gold Coast!

Hello everyone!

A few days ago, I made a post expressing my concerns over how my family may be treated during our trip to Brisbane and the Gold Coast given our asian ethnicity (https://www.reddit.com/r/GoldCoast/s/2ZOr6lFBs9)

Fast forward to today, we have spent three wonderful days and nights here in the Gold Coast and would be heading up north to Brisbane tomorrow. I am very happy to say that everyone has treated us with utmost respect, friendliness and hospitality and we most definitely feel very welcome here. I was definitely worrying too much haha. From Broadbeach to Surfers Paradise to Southport and beyond, we have had a very unique experience that we can't experience anywhere else. Our biggest highlight was participating in the Gold Coast Marathon which was truly one heck of an experience.

I think our only worries is when we see groups of rather rowdy teenagers at Cavill Avenue or congregating at the tram stations. But they have never bothered us so all is good! I would say our main concern was the rather high prices when eating out 😅 but I mean hey how often do you get to travel lol once in a while is fine.

Till then, see you again Gold Coast, and I look forward to spending the remaining days in Brissie 😄

Pacific Airshow performers lacking?

Gold coast airshow is just over a month away and the performers on their site are still really lacking from the previous two years. It does still say more to be announced but time is ticking and it doesn't seem great so far.

Just another typical Sunday night in the Hinterland, with no electricity🙄

Yeah, this is becoming a way too common occurrence here lately🤦🏻‍♂️
No winds, no storms etc & yet again no electricity. Energex has been playing with the transformer out the front for the past 2 hours this. Thank fuck we have a decent 8kva backup generator that powers the entire property, including the 3 houses on it🫡

GOOD chocolate cake - today

It’s my son’s birthday, his 20th

And I have ashamedly just remembered yesterday… Normally i make the cakes for my - grown up - kids’ birthdays

For several - yet unjustified - reason, I forgot…

:(

Please can I have a location to get an amazing cake… Decoration not important. My boys never waited for decoration. When I bake… Just good quality, ganache, or chocolate cream on top.

I live near Hope Island – but happy to travel anywhere to pick one up. Don’t need a big one either. It’s just him and me this time.

Please do let me know if you’ve tasted the most delicious moist, and yet somewhat but not very dense , chocolate cake

Looking too fussy or too specific lol

Please and thanks!

Beyond G:Link Stage 3 - Some ideas for further rail expansion

Despite the Crisafulli government cancelling Stage 4, that's not going to stop me mocking up my own design for it. It continues along the existing direction hitting 8 stops before reaching the Airport.

Stage 4e provides a staged construction option, running through Coolangatta to Point Danger.

The next improvement is extending the heavy rail line from Varsity Lakes also to the Airport, passing through Reedy Creek, Burleigh, Elanora, Currumbin and Tugun.

Turning back to light rail, Stage 5 connects Nerang to Broadbeach South via Carrara - a much needed public transport option for the stadium.

Stage 6 connects Varsity Lakes to Burleigh Heads via Burleigh Waters, another dead zone. This is an important cross-link for the network.

Stage 7 meshes with previous upgrades going from Burleigh to Mermaid Waters via Burleigh Waters.

Stage 8 continues this direction, moving from Mermaid Waters to High Street, providing an interchange point with Nerang Street station. 11 stops are serviced between start and finish, a marked improvement.

Stage 9 connects Carrara Stadium to Napper Road, north of GCUH. A station at Wintergreen Drive provides an interchange point to the existing light rail.

Stage 10 continues from High Street, servicing nine dense stops before reaching Harbour Town.

Finally, Stage 11 Links Stages 9 and 10 at Harbour Town, extending to Runaway Bay. Further extension could begin from Lae Drive, but I haven't included it in this post.

Personally I think Stages 4, 4e, the heavy rail extension and Stages 5 and 6 are the most important / highest priority and are the most viable on a cost-benefit basis. Stages 7 to 11 would only be possible after achieving community embrace of the earlier stages. (Construction would be many years away)

I'm interested to hear your thoughts and any feedback, and if you would configure anything differently!

Cleaner rate?

Hey all

Long story short I’m looking for someone to come into my 2 bed apartment and clean the floors (lifting) laminate and tiles, professionally. Does anyone have anyone they recommend in the southern Gold Coast area? I’ve spent hours cleaning them 3 times - whoever the last tenants were they’ve left the floors so gross no matter how much I mop, when I walk bare foot my feet are dirty in minutes.

Literally just want my floors cleaned well that’s all.

I know it sounds bit ridiculous but appreciate all and any help!!

Good Indian restaurants on the Gold Coast?

Hey r/goldcoast,

Looking for recommendations for a decent Indian restaurant (North or South Indian). Bonus if it’s not too expensive.

Thanks!

Apple Store Robina

I was sitting in the Apple Store at Robina the other day waiting for my laptop to be repaired, and while I was waiting I couldn’t help overhearing a few interactions between the Genius staff and customers.

Honestly, I was a bit surprised. There were a number of different customers being helped around me, and the level of snark and dismissive attitude from some of the staff really stood out.

I know retail isn’t an easy job, but I remember when walking into an Apple Store felt exciting. The staff were enthusiastic, friendly and genuinely seemed to enjoy helping people. These days the atmosphere just feels flat.
The two biggest offenders both made a point of telling customers they’d been there for more than 10 years, almost as if that justified their attitude.

Maybe Apple needs to start sending in mystery shoppers because that famous Apple customer experience seems to have disappeared, at least at Robina. It honestly felt like the customer service training came from Kogan rather than Apple.

For the record, my own issue was resolved without any problems, so this isn’t a complaint about my repair. It’s simply an observation after sitting there for about an hour watching how other customers were treated.

I’m still a huge fan of Apple products. I’m just not convinced by the customer service at Apple Robina anymore.

Is GC a place full of weirdo?

I’m not from there and just visiting this city. And when I was on a tram, I recognised a bunch or girls chatting loudly and SCREAMING continuously. While a boy kept knocking at the panel in response. Does this happen often here? Is it just a usual GC day?

Local fish n chips

Rocked up to our local fish n chip joint to find out it's closed permanently after 38 years of patronage 😭

Can anyone recommend a good fish n chip shop with a similar simple, local vibe?

How do you feel about people playing music on an empty beach at night at a respectable volume?

Upon moving closer to the beach I have seen a few people playing music on the beaches at night, some with a small speakers that you hear in earshot of 30- 40 metres then others blasting JBL Party Boxes that echo up and throughout the buildings.

I have always thought about having a small hangout with 3-5 friends around the dunes in the evening and using one of those small portable charge 4 speakers in a quite spot at night on the weekend but I have always been very aware that people here might not like it.

I am wondering what the etiquette is because I don't want to be one of those wankers that disturbs the peace and that pisses other locals off just trying to go for a peaceful walk but at the same time there wouldn't be much harm in playing it at a respectful volume and obviously keeping the area clean and not leaving a trace.

What are your thoughts?

Graffiti bridge in Neeang

There's this bridge in Nerang and apparently the council have allowed people to do graffiti there. Every few weeks it seems to get all painted over and then more new artworks will appear. I have seen some seriously impressive artworks there. Crazy what people can do with only spray paint.
