Engagement Bait: Should the government pay to build something like this down here? Is it worth it for a better national park?

Yes I know it's AI slop, but it gets the point across right?

Gold Coast University Hospital

A brief appreciation post. Sadly part of my life necessitates semi-frequent visits to emergency departments, and Goldie has become the fourth city after Perth, Melbourne and London where I've had to avail myself of their ED services. On each such occasion I've been blown away by the professionalism and kindness of the staff, and my recent experience was no different. Yes, the public health service is a little clunky, but I never underestimate how lucky we are to have it.

Thank you to the wonderful staff at GCUH.

Gold Coast: what is it like to live there for a year?

Hi everyone! I’m a 29-year-old girl from Italy and in February 2027 I’m planning to move to Australia for about a year.
I’m trying to figure out which city would suit me best and, after doing some research, I’ve become really interested in the Gold Coast, especially Burleigh Heads.
The lifestyle I’m looking for is mainly focused on the beach and sports: I’d love to learn how to surf, continue going to the gym, play tennis and run on the beach. I’d really like to live somewhere where I can have this kind of lifestyle.
Besides that, I’d also love to have a good social life. I really enjoy going out for drinks and dinner, meeting new people and making new friends.
Do you think the Gold Coast, and especially Burleigh Heads, would be a good fit for me and the kind of lifestyle I’m looking for?
And what is the job situation like on the Gold Coast? How easy is it to find casual/part-time work, especially considering that I still need to improve my English? One of the main goals of my trip is actually to improve my English, so at the moment it’s not perfect.
If you have any experience living on the Gold Coast, or if you’ve lived in other Australian cities, which one would you recommend for this kind of experience?

AMA: I’m a QLD electrician — ask me about EVs, home charging, switchboards & electrical safety [10:30am AEST 18/08]

Hi r/AustralianEV!

I’m John Ricca from Jaric Air Conditioning and Electrical, a licensed electrical and air conditioning company based in South East Queensland. We install home EV chargers and help customers work out what their car, home and switchboard actually need before they buy.

We’re hosting an AMA on Tuesday 18 August at 10:30am AEST, where I’ll be here to answer your questions about:

  • Choosing the right home EV charger: 7kW vs 11kW vs 22kW
  • Switchboards, safety checks and whether your home is EV-ready
  • Solar charging, off-peak tariffs and the cheapest way to charge at home
  • Electrical safety
  • General electrical questions
  • Anything else you’ve been wondering about

We’re happy to answer both basic and technical questions — from “do I really need a wall charger?” through to switchboard capacity, solar charging, tariffs and QLD installation requirements.

This isn’t a sales pitch. We’re here to share practical electrical advice and help clear up some of the confusion around home EV charging. For anything specific to your own property, a licensed electrician would still need to inspect it properly.

Drop your questions below ahead of time and we’ll start answering them when the AMA begins at 10:30am.

Looking forward to chatting with you all.

Why do we mow nature strips?

Got a visit from the council today and was told I can't use my nature strip. There's no footpath, most of the street are also using theirs incorrectly to park.

Just makes me wonder if it's not mine, then why am I mowing it? I understand that there's a rule that says it needs to be upkept. But fuck them, if it's not mine to use, upkeep it yourself.

Are the Theme parks to busy early December?

Me and my friends are planning to go on a GoldCoast trip on the 7th of December and hit up all the theme parks, just wondering wether it will be too packed and if so should I just buy the Premium annual pass?

Is palm beach the worst of the super gentrified suburbs?

The suburb had always been the land of the crackheads and substance enjoyers, with the last 8 years seeing a super boom in some of the most expensive apartments and high rises being constructed. The prices continue to soar up, yet the actual suburb is still full of, unpleasantries.

The boom in construction completely disregards its small road infrastructure with so much t intersections and reckless drivers and e-bikes from both teens and adults alike, makes it a fairly eventful drive in and out. Not to mention how the Palm beach boomers and land owners somehow mustered a campaign to stop the trams from being built temporarily. Seems like a bad mix of substance users and also pompous land owners who only think about money from their property

I think it’s super easy for Melbourne and Sydney movers to see the nice beach and nice apartments and think it’s paradise, but it’s so far from it.

I miss going on my Gold Coast Beach walks.

Winter has me in hibernation mode. It was chilly out today but lovely enough to walk along the beach. Caught the tram to Burleigh Heads. It was full like Sydney during peak hour. I then walked the beach until I arrived at Miami. The usual big rock that you can't go past was walkable along the beach today.

F-35 over the Gold Coast at the Pacific Airshow in First Time!

Really amazing air show . Today is the last day.

The performances begin in the morning and end in the afternoon. Not one minute of rest throughout the day. It is truly a heaven for plane lovers.

Queensland driving rules?

Approaching a stop sign. You're proceeding ahead, so no blinkers. You stop at the stop sign.

Car facing you on the opposite side is turning right. Their right blinker is on. They are also facing a stop sign. They wait until you stop, then turn directly in front of you.

The secret bogan teachings seem to be "if the car opposite you stops, it's OK to turn in front of them".

Anyone had this happen to them? There's an intersection near me where this happens all the time.
