I beat all 3 Golden Sun games

What can I say, I absolutely loved the GBA titles. I was pretty high on Dark Dawn for the first half of my playthrough but by the time I finished, my thoughts settle on it being pretty mediocre sadly. I often found myself just wanting to go back and play the first two games but I begrudgingly finished Dark Dawn. I didn't hate it though, just felt frustrated by its wasted potential and the weird plot. The final third felt terrible and soured me on the good time I was having with the game beforehand. It felt like the game should have ended ten hours earlier than it did.

I'm astonished how well the GBA titles have aged though. They play so well and they are so charming. Practically everything about them resonates positively with me.

If anyone was curious to read my thoughts, I wrote lengthy reviews for the GBA titles here.

I just posted a review for Dark Dawn here.

I have joined you folks that must now wait for a new entry. I've already been waiting ages for Legend of Dragoon to get something/anything. Might as well add Golden Sun to that as well.

Should my party, during the prologue, have high elemental power levels?

This is what I mean, I haven’t played in nearly a decade, so I do not remember if this is accurate or not.

How would it turn out if the antagonists have Djinns, too?

Isaac and Co have their strength mostly from Djinns. The base classes without any djinn are pretty weak in comparison. I think it is Alex in GS2 that asks himself the question "Have they (Isaac and Co) become this strong in such a short time?" in regards to the death of Saturos and Menardi.

I found this always super weird because if you strip Djinn from the equations, Felix, Isaac and Co are pretty weak. In a casual playthrough you will make use of Djinn and they are actually part of the lore (however what their purpose is beyond stats is not explained iirc), but how would it turn out if the antagonists (Menardi & Saturos, Karst and Agatio) would use Djinn as well? They even have psynergy to drain Djinn so they are actually part of the story to some degree, too.

Imagine Saturos with 9 Mars Djinn and 9 Venus Djinn bound to him.

Playing for the first time, impressed!

I never got to really play Golden Sun back then, but man is it awesome. I'm still a little confused about the Djinn process, but it's coming together. Anyway, heres a screenshot of where I am so far. Just beat the tree dude.

Is there a gameplay reason for why Isaac levels up before the rest of the party?

So I noticed that he needs six less EXP to level up versus say Garret or anyone else. Is there a reason behind this, a mechanic or maybe because he is the default leader?

Venus Patterns Finished

I have been a little burned out with work starting up again

But managed to get the Venus Djinni finished tonight

I am really struggling with the Jupiter designs, they are so dark its hard to give them shading that doesnt just look all black

Opinion on Suhalla's artifacts

I am looking for ideas to reconstruct the ancient civilization that built the Lighthouse of Venus. We know that the ancient civilizations collapsed after the lighthouses went dark, leaving behind very little evidence of their existence. Since the Lighthouse of Venus is located near the Suhalla Desert, I wondered if the artifacts emerging from that desert might belong to the same civilization that built the lighthouse. Do you think this could be a clue regarding the civilization of the Lighthouse of Venus, or do you consider them to be merely aesthetic filler?

Feizhi sprite set completed

It took longer than expected, but I’ve finally completed the set. Compared to the earlier images, I’ve made the model’s hair slightly more purple; I feel it now bears a closer resemblance to both Feizhi’s sprite and portrait. Some images in the set gave me a bit of a headache—forcing me to redraw the skirts several times—but overall, I’m satisfied. I suppose the next step will be redesigning Feizhi’s small sprite to account for the cape and skirt, but that involves a lot of sprites, so I imagine it will take some time to finish the changes.

24 years later, I finally got through Jupiter Lighthouse

I played TLA in 2003 and could never get pass this section and just gave up. I finally made it (after multiple attempts, of course) and this felt like redemption for my 10 year old self 🤣 I honestly have no idea how I made it this far when I was a kid, this lighthouse was a doozy!!

My GS D&D canpaign just ended

After 3.5 years, my D&D campaign, an adaptation of TBS and TLA finally ended.

It has been such a long journey filled with tears, blood, and sweat.

Go ahead and ask me anything about the campaign, from what I did the same, what i changed (and why), and i guess I want to share in my sense of accomplishment, as many D&D campaigns dont finish, let alone go as high level as mine did.

Im just so happy it is complete, but also sad that it is over, at least for now.

Does anybody keep Rief in their party once Amiti joins?

I was just thinking about this; I have never ever seen anybody keep Rief in their main party once they get Amiti as their 5th member. I remember way back in the day it was basically a meme that nobody liked Rief and everyone wished that we got his sister Nowell in the party instead, and it was pretty much a given that everyone benched him as soon as they could

So does anyone use the poor kid apart from specific boss fights?

Colosso Competitor Waiting Room detail: Sol Rug

Hi everyone! First time posting in this group; been a huge fan of GS since about 2009, and i sometimes get the urge to replay through the series. This time, I’m playing the patched version. Interesting changes with the classes; a bit confusing but fun nonetheless! ANYWAYS, I noticed the rug in the colosso waiting room is the exact same sun pattern as the tiles in Sol Sanctum before you get to the Elemental Stars. I was a bit surprised but then it immediately clicked in my brain that of course Babi would have little things in his mansion that would be inspired by alchemy, especially considering how many scholars he has working for him, including Kraden. Just a little detail I wanted to share since it’s my first time noticing it, despite this being like the 10th time in my life that I’ve played through the first game. Highkey, now I want two real rugs with the insignia for Luna on one and Sol on another 😆 loop

Random Flea Market Find

Went to a flea market this morning and while walking through a stall saw this gem sitting on top of a small stack of game posters from the same era; managed to snag it for $15.

GS1: Physical Attacking Mia

I always see most people relegating Mia to healing, so I wanted to share my favorite Mia build - that of a cursed warrior bludgeoning people to death with the Wicked Mace :)

The Druid class has a 130% Attack multiplier (tied for the highest possible for Mia) while 6 Venus Djinn + Spirit Armlet raise her Venus power as high as possible to boost the Venus-element unleash of Wicked Mace, which triggers as often as possible thanks to Lucky Cap and Hyper Boots. Maximizing the Venus power is why I chose this class over Water Monk/White Mage even if it only makes a small difference.

The rest of the party is Isaac as Berserker w/ Gaia Blade (maximized Attack), Garet as Conjurer w/ Kikuichimonji (Party-Wide Buffs and maximally-boosted Jupiter unleashes), and Ivan as Sage w/ Crystal Rod (primary healer). Honestly this is the strongest party composition I think I've ever stumbled upon, even above most Tri-Element class builds.

If you want to try something new in your next playthrough, give it a shot!
