Some questions of a new player

Greetings, the game is on sale on Steam, I'm very inclined to buy it and I have a few questions:

For people who play online, is it active and busy or are there few people playing?

Does it have crossplay?

Is there an interesting single-player mode or is the focus on multiplayer?

Issues with combos

I’m having issues using attacks that require more than 2 button inputs on anything other than training mode. I set the training dummy to the same difficulty I play against in arcade, but it actually responds to the button inputs, no issues doing the attacks. I’m not sure what’s causing this, but here’s some more info:

I’m using 2B
I’m using a controller
I’m occasionally struggling to get missile (left d-pad+right bumper) and wire (left d-pad+right bumper+Y)
I cannot land extermination blade (right bumper+left bumper+ menu) or self destruct (x+y+b+menu)

I can land all of these no problem in training mode with an active opponent, but not in arcade or online matches, anyone have any ideas?

Where do I best start with online play

Hi,

I recently started playing more of this game. I am playing a lot of arcade mode with lots of characters and it‘s been a great experience. I figured that after getting comfortable with the game and its controls I should probably get into online play.

So I decided to join a random lobby and oh boy… I got completely destroyed. And I don‘t just mean beaten, but almost perfected twice in a row and completely manhandled.

The other player very clearly had much more experience and skill than me. Is it possible to only fight against other newbies somehow?

Had a REALLY bad adrenaline dump. But I'm playing online like you guys told me to!

TLDR; I'm playing online to combat my online anxiety like you guys recommended, but it hasn't gone without difficulties like feeling I'm wasting other players time or having bad adrenaline dumps. Also thank you this community is super chill compared to other fighting game communities.

A while back I mentioned that I used to play fighting games online a lot and I got really used to it. But I'm the years past I developed online anxiety. It helped when I would drink but I'm not doing that anymore.

So I've been playing online. My only two issues are that I feel ashamed for summer reason when I get beat by some one really nice. Like I wasted their time. Like this really nice person played me in the lobby and I apologized after some close losses.

Also I had a REALLY intense adrenaline dump playing ranked (I didn't actually care about my rank)... Like I was playing this sweaty Versusia and I just knew I was a more knowledgeable and less predictable player. But I couldn't tie it together and I lost 2 and won one. But in our last match it was SO close that my adrenaline peaked and I started shaking. I think it made me worse in the moment as I couldn't think straight. The shitty part is that when you dump that much adrenaline the feeling doesn't just automatically go away. I went and played Survival and I just couldn't I was still shaking a bit for about half an hour. Anyways I'll keep trying.

I'm also playing Eustace and he definitely has a pretty different feel from many other characters. He's just.... Different. Like you have to learn a specific way of playing (I know this is true for all characters but more so for Eustace and other characters that have a kind of gimmick).. With him I can't just jump in rush down and I have often found my self trying to fight close range a lot instead is giving myself space.

Anyways this is rambling and I want to say thank you to everyone for the support this community is really nice and friendly compared to other fighting game communities.

Is it late to start?

Been thinking of getting the game recently. Was wondering if it's too late to buy and get into it? Hows the population looking? Is it full of sweaty people?

I haven't played a fighting game since Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm in 2015 and even then it was super casual, so would someone as a brand new beginner even enjoy this game this late in its life cycle?

How long do you expect the game to be supported and updated?

I did play free trial some time ago and had some fun but not sure if getting into the game now is worth the time, money and effort.

Simple inputs

When i try to use djeetas rekka with sinple inouts is there. a reason for why i have to press down+skill instead of using back+light+skill like i do for the medium and heavy versions? Is there any way to change this?

Tips for Vikala

Just fought a Grandmaster Vikala, and you know, credit to them it was probably the easiest win of their life; but as Charlotta I have no idea what to do. She hard counters pretty much everything.

Gran is not good as everyone says

I saw that a lot of people saying that Gran is good character but I just don't see anything good about him. His gameplay is boring even his design too. People saying that he is good for beginners, kinda yes if Granblue fantasy versus rising is your first fighting game ever. But I think that Gran can be more complicated than others. People saying that his damage is good and his attacks has long range also that his speed is higher than others. But almost every character has a high damage combo even at mid screen, while Gran need to be at corner to do most of his combos. His long pokes not really long I would say, a lot of characters has longer range. He need a lot of game knowledge to even play as the same level as other characters. I wound say his is easy to learn hard to master character. But you can't really go crazy with him. Other characters just better than him. His kit is not strong nor weak just mid. His fireball is not very useful against good players, it's predictable, slow and risky. His boot is reactable and not safe on block if you a little too close, if you hit block from far away it just becomes neutral while other characters have special attacks that plus on block. All of his special attacks is minus or even on block. Only his 236H is plus on block. His ultimate gives his opponent enough time to block or spot dodge it and punish it. And even if you land it tha damage is very weak compared to others. I don't understand what he can even do against good players. I played him only for 100 hours maybe I still don't understand something but if after 100 hours he still feels weak than he is not a beginner friendly. His combos are so easy to drop

Tips on Meg

I'm currently trying to climb with Meg, I'm A at the moment, and I seem to struggle getting in, she doesent seem to have much mix up. Shes super predictable everyone you fight has a DP besides her lol, her mediums seem to get out ranged by almost everyone especially in corner pressure.

Why is this game so hard

Alright so I dont play this game too too much. I like street fighter but I hate the buttons in street fighter so I play this instead (light, medium, heavy, is so much easier to understand than, light kick medium heavy kick whatever too much)

I like narmaya and I know she has 2/5 stars for ease of use. Im a lab monkey though and doing her combos are not especially difficult. So why then is it that this game is so difficult to learn how to play at least for me. (I understand the concept of fighting games. I come from playing mostly platform fighters but the fundamentals are very similar.).

I think the hardest part for me is figuring out neutral. Once i have the opponent in the corner im OK. But getting there is so hard for some reason, and being consistent is even harder. Ive been stuck in C rank since I started playing years ago when the game first came out but again I dont play it too often. I have maybe 75 hours in the game. But you would think with that much time I would've learned at least enough to get to B rank maybe? Idk is it my character choice? Ive tried other characters but no one is as fun as narmaya with her double stance.

Rupies

In the rupie store there is an option to buy dlc characters for 36000 rupies. I have 23,500 . Is it possible to reach 36 k in a reasonable amount of time?

I don't really care for skins or colours that much so i was wondering if it is worth it to save up to get a character. Not that i am that interested in one, if i was i would have just spent the irl money, but i figured i would spend the rupies on something other than pointless cosmetics for characters that i know i will never touch.

Hit a hard wall

I reached Master Rank, and yeah I know a master rank asking questions but I feel like I can't do anything now. Everything I do get's read, I have no idea how to counter most things I come across, and I did a huge disservice to a Vikala player by simply putting my controller down and walking away mid match because I didn't know what to do.

I play Charlotta for reference, so if there's any discord servers or anything that be great; but I'm not sure what else to do since reading people can't really be taught.
