GrokBot users: We're losing control over our own Bots. This needs to be reversed.

I've recently subscribed to Grok Bot specifically to use GrokBot for a sophisticated multi-agent research project. I was genuinely excited about its potential.

Then I discovered something that has seriously undermined my confidence in the product.

Grok Bot has intentionally removed the ability to directly view and edit individual Bot Instructions in the desktop app.

This isn't speculation. Cursor's own support team has officially confirmed it.

What has happened?

Previously, you could open a Bot's settings and directly view or edit its permanent instructions.

These instructions define what your Bot is supposed to do, how it should behave, what responsibilities it has and what rules it should follow.

That editor has disappeared from the desktop app.

The Instructions field still exists on Android and iOS, but according to Cursor support, changes made there are not currently applied reliably to the Bot's behaviour.

The official response also confirms:

  • The desktop redesign was intentional.
  • There is no equivalent, reliably applied and reviewable per-Bot Instructions field on desktop.
  • There is no timetable for restoring the previous functionality.
  • The suggested alternatives include telling Bots what to do through chat, using private Skills and configuring approval rules.

But none of these is a proper replacement for directly controlling and verifying each Bot's permanent instructions.

Why should this concern you?

Imagine hiring an employee but not being allowed to read or edit their job description.

Instead, you must ask the employee to change their own instructions and then trust that they've done it correctly.

Would you run a serious business that way?

That's effectively the concern here.

If you're using GrokBot for personal reminders, perhaps this isn't a major issue.

But if you're using multiple Bots for business operations, coding, financial research, customer management, legal work or complex automations, it becomes far more serious.

You need to know exactly what each Bot is instructed to do.

You need to be able to correct those instructions.

And you need confidence that the Bot is actually receiving and applying them.

Autonomous AI needs more user control, not less.

What should GrokBot do?

I'm asking the developers to:

  1. Restore the ability to view and edit each Bot's permanent instructions directly.
  2. Ensure those instructions are reliably applied across desktop and mobile.
  3. Allow users to review, copy, export and ideally track changes to Bot instructions.
  4. Clearly distinguish permanent instructions from ordinary chat messages and reusable Skills.

These are basic requirements for a serious multi-agent platform.

What can we do about it?

If this matters to you, please don't just complain here.

Contact GrokBot support directly and tell them why this change affects your work.

You can also contribute to the official forum discussion, where they already acknowledged the issue:

https://forum.cursor.com/t/grok-bot-macos-unable-to-see-or-edit-bot-instructions-or-skills-on-desktop/173803

When you contact support, explain your actual use case and request the restoration of reliable, independently editable Bot instructions.

The more individual users explain the practical impact, the harder it becomes for the development team to underestimate its importance.

My view

I genuinely want GrokBot to succeed. Its potential is enormous.

But autonomous agents are only useful when users can define, inspect and control their behaviour.

Removing that control in the name of simplicity is a serious mistake.

Please restore proper Bot Instructions. Give users control over the AI agents they're paying for.

I'd particularly like to hear from people running multiple specialised Bots. How are you managing their permanent instructions now, and have you noticed problems since the change?

TL;DR: Cursor has removed the ability to edit GrokBot's permanent instructions. This means users can't properly control or verify what their AI agents are instructed to do. That's a serious problem. Please raise it with Grok Bot support and add your voice. We need this functionality restored.

grokbot email after a day: the limits nobody mentions + how i put mine on my own domain

been digging into the new bot email since yesterday, few things i didnt know going in

  • you get one address per account, all your bots share it
  • you cant rename or delete it later so pick the name carefully
  • name+test@ aliases dont arrive (no bounce either, they just vanish)
  • theres no inbox screen, to see what came in or what it sent you ask the bot
  • new mail doesnt wake the bot by itself, you need an event driven routine

for signups and verification codes its totally fine. but i wanted my bot to email actual customers, so i didnt want @mail.grokbot.com and i wanted to be able to open the inbox myself

what i ended up doing: a mailbox on my own domain, connected to grok as a custom connector (mcp), plus a webhook that starts a grok automation when mail lands

one gotcha that cost me a while: grok automation webhooks dont take a bearer token. they give you a whsec_ secret and only accept signed requests (standard webhooks format). anything else gets a 400

full disclosure i build shipmail and thats what i used, but any inbox with mcp + signed webhooks works the same way. wrote the steps up here if useful: https://shipmail.to/blog/grok-bot-email-on-your-own-domain

Grok bot is amazing

The grok bot interface is ourstanding. For one you can out a face and name it. When you speak to it, it's like youre actually calling them. You can react to their messages and vice versa. And then it can do work for you on top of that.

If only they will add memory and all the other stuff I think grok bot might just be the best AI around right now. Especially because of the UI.

How much can Grokbot’s behavior actually be changed through instructions?

Has anyone experimented properly with this
My Grokbot keeps defaulting to a very corrective / moralizing personality and disagrees with me way more than I expected. It’s becoming a real pain in the ass !! Even on normal brainstorming it sometimes feels like it’s trying to steer the conversation instead of just helping me explore the idea.

I’m wondering how much of that is the underlying model vs the bot instructions?? Has anyone found a good instruction setup that makes it:less preachy and more neutral? and willing to explore unconventional ideas?

Primary Bot (new) - replace CoS?

Has anyone tried this new Primary Bot feature?

Not sure if I should use my existing CoS as the primary bot, or set it up separately?

Has anyone used this yet? If so, how did you integrate this?

Grok Bot only reads emails every 1 hour. I need real-time

My grok bot is too slow with handling emails - he only checks them every hour or so. I appreciate I can ask him to check more frequently, but that feels inefficent.

Is there no way to set it up in a way that it's instant/real-time?

I want him to be a lot more autonomous and independently handle the back and forth with emails, and for that he needs to respond to incoming emails within minutes and not wait 30minutes every time.

What am I doing wrong?

Has anyone actually made money from a Grok bot?

Curious if anyone here has monetized a Grok bot, not “someday” — actually got paid.

If you’ve made anything from this, even a small amount:

  1. What was the bot actually for?
  2. How did the money come in (rewards, clients, product, something else)?
  3. Roughly how much, and over what timeframe?
  4. What would you skip if you were starting again?

Not looking for a course pitch. Just trying to see what’s real versus what’s theory. Canada-based if that matters for payouts.

What does everyone pay for GrokBot? Usage limit experience?

Just curious to know what people are paying who use Grok Bot for day-day admin stuff, like emails or some light(er) work flows? Are you experiencing a cap / throttling in your responses? Or are you just seeing extra charges? Or do you have to re-up tokens?

I *just* signed up for the annual plan ($250) and didnt see anything about the ^^ mentioned for additional payments, so i was not sure

Which Grok Bot templates are you guys actually using?

Been playing around with Grok Bot lately and man im freakin impressed 😎 I’m starting to realize the template/setup makes a huge difference tho?!

Curious what everyone here is actually running day to day and not just the default examples: the
research bots, daily briefings, business stuff, monitoring, content, coding, personal assistant, weird experiments… you name it !! So whatever you’ve built that’s genuinely useful.
thread!! Drop whatever you’re using below if it’s actually useful.

Would be nice to have one subreddit with a bunch of real Grok Bot setups people can just grab and mess around with, instead of everyone building the same stuff from zero!!
