"Take it up with your parents"
This is a statement I never fail to run into in the wild. It is the cutters' final, last resort. The "break glass in case of factual arguments" retort. When debating the cutters, you will find the goal posts have been mounted on 17" pneumatic tyres, being pulled by cheetahs. Cutters are extremely predictable people because they are extremely simple people. These are not intellectual titans we are dealing with.
First they will claim it's "cleaner" or somehow more aesthetic or desirable to be cut. When you point out the idiotic logic of this reasoning (and the lack of consent), then it moves to the "medical" defense. Since they know they can't defend it ethically for cosmetic reasons, it becomes a "medical necessity". Preventing the astronomically unlikely cancer risk 70 years into the baby's future suddenly has all the urgency of a crash cart in the ER. When you counter this with facts and studies demonstrating the abysmal cost/benefit analysis, when you counter with statistics and studies and diagrams showing the countless myriad benefits and anatomical necessity of these structures, then they move into their final refuge. The last stand.
Some variation of "I don't care, take it up with your parents".
This is their final riposte. They know their arguments have run dry; the quiver is bare. They cannot refute any logical or emotional reason to spare defenseless boys this atrocity, so they fall back on the one thing they have left. Apathy, and a lack of liability.
"Oh, but the Tribunal mustn't blame me. I merely rounded up those genocide victims and loaded them up on to the trucks. Where they went from there wasn't my fault. I didn't pull the trigger."
They rely on this facile argument to absolve themselves of any responsibility. By playing this card, they no longer need to defend their position. They no longer need to justify circumcision. You see, it was all your parent's fault. Your 2 parents, out of 8 billion humans, came up with this all on their own. Not society, not religion, not the medical industrial complex, not capitalism, not profits, not cruelty or malice or ignorance or cultural pressure. Certainly not psychopath fetishists. Just your parents. No one else's. Not some poor defenceless newborn sitting in a maternity ward, right this very second whose fate in life is being decided by a couple of blithely ignorant young people who have not received informed consent, and are only influenced by idiotic Hollywood propaganda and cultural slop.
No you see, this is all your problem to deal with.
They don't want to shoulder the burden of defending their filth- it is ethically and factually impossible. So they flip the board, flush the toilet, and chuck it all down the drain in the name of absolving themselves of any responsibility in the damage caused by their disgusting fetish.
You see, it was your parents and your parents alone that did this, so you have to take it up with them. Conveniently, your mutilation is somehow your problem now. The time for debate has ended, you see. This is a you problem and suddenly they don't (and by extension, no one else on the planet) has any time or want to hear about it.
Obviously, asking your parents about it is a huge privilege in and of itself. Many men never get the chance. They may have been adopted, they may have only found out the truth of their mutilation well into adulthood after their parents had died. Many lose their parents too young (as I did). Many never have that relationship with their parents, may never worked up the courage. Those that do inevitable get unsatisfactory answers: I've seen this story play out hundreds of times personally and could count the number of "we wanted to keep you intact but it was medically critical" on less than one hand. At best you get cultural/religious nonsense, or pseudo-scientific gibberish.
And in the end, there is no resolution. There is no catharsis. There is no reversing what was done to us. We are marked for life. We are scarred for life. We are denied pleasure, for life. Confronting ignorant fools 30 years after their failure does nothing for anyone, anywhere.
Except absolve this filth of their responsibility in it.
Well I won't have it.
