Holy crap are these things scary. Trying to cure a vampires weakness to the sun/UV rays is already a recipe for disaster. But here comes this mutant rabies super soldier strain that transforms its victims into absolute juggernauts who can strait up take shotgun blasts to the chest, one dude even had a part of his head cut off and his eye was still looking around and blinking like it’s still functional despite literally only being an eye and a piece of a brain. This thing devolves you mentally into a snarling starving beast so any attempt at negotiation is off the table. And just look at that mouth mutation, mutated and evolved to hold on to their prey better and infect their victims while simultaneously draining them of blood.

Pickman's Model on Netflix reveals the ENTIRE problem with most Lovecraft adaptations ...

The plot of this adaptation in Del Toro's Cabinet of Curiosities is mostly an in-name-only revision of the story, but that's somewhat understandable given its unusual POV.

However, what is not okay is failing in every way to communicate the horror of the unexplained. In THIS story, the main character sees demons everywhere in connection to a depiction of a witch's coven. This refocuses the story onto her, completely, and optically diverts the definition of reality away from the story's true revelation: this subject is REAL.

From this version, there is no way to know that the demon in the basement is real because we've been hallucinating weird creatures the whole time, nor is there much reason to think that's significant. This version might as well be called "Pickman's Paintings" or "Legacy of the Witch" or something.

The entire premise of capturing the liminality of great evil in the crevice of the world and that being almost too horrifying to bear, is TOTALLY undermined by the narrative of these paintings turning people into "demons." I wasn't expecting a masterpiece, but I'm shocked it's THIS far off on a comprehension level.

Pre-ordered the Iron Studios Art Scale 1/10 Frankenstein's Monster (Guillermo del Toro version) a while back, but the release date keeps getting pushed back with no clear shipping window.

Looking at the promo photos again makes me feel like the head sculpt and facial likeness might be off compared to what we've seen from the film.

For anyone else who pre-ordered: are you holding out for in-hand collector photos, or did the delays push you to cancel? Would love to hear what other collectors think.

Pan's Labyrinth Screen-Print by BNG (Art Version available)

The "art" version of this beautiful screen print without the title text has been sold out since the print was originally released, but it seems like it's in stock at the moment. Maybe they found some additional prints in their archive?
