To preface, Wilds is my first Monster Hunter. I've got about 400 hours in and have reached the point where I'm going through and getting a solid handle on all the different weapons.
I've been using Gunlance pretty consistently, taking on most of the 9 and 10 star cast with it.
I've been rolling with a Normal Shelling Gog GL, and just today went and crafted a Wide to play around with it. Seregios is one of my favorite fights with GL, and I've got him down to a science. When he does his typical six-swipe combo, where he lands and the 'wound' opens on his foot, with normal shelling GL you can PG the last swipe in the combo into overhead slam > FullBurst > focus strike to pop the 'wound'. I'm super consistent about pulling that off, easily 95% of the time.
I switched to Wide GL (doing the same 9star Steve quest), and not once was I able to hit the 'wound' before it disappeared, doing the exact same thing. PG the last swipe, slam, FullBurst, focus strike. The 'wound' would fade out just before the attack would connect, despite me doing my damnedest to get the combo off quicker. I was really surprised, since I figured if anything, the combo would go faster because the FullBurst has less shots to fire off in comparison to a normal GL. Went back to camp mid fight and swapped back to normal shelling... Was able to hit the 'wound' the next time he did the combo.
Everything sans the shelling type on the GLs was the same, same decos, same build. Did I just have a skill issue moment or do certain attacks come out slower for the different shelling types?
As it stands, post TU4.5 what is the best optimal shelling to go for on GL?
I decided to play with the gunlance in MHFU and MH3rd (before playing with the greatsword), and the main problem is that, from what I've been told, it's not worth shooting with the gunlance, encouraging its use as a regular spear, simply because the firepower is very weak and consumes a huge amount of the weapon's blade, which is a shame, as shooting with the gunlance is what makes it special and also the most fun part of the weapon. I only started playing with the gunlance in modern games, which is something important I think.
Just looking for some general pointers. I haven’t fought or beaten Gog yet or gotten a really good talisman. I know its pretty basic “standard” build I wanted Divine Blessing as I was carting too often. What would you change? Thank you for any feedback
Hi guys,
Another resident boom enjoyer. Curious to discuss Flayer post the buff for GL and see if anyone has done any testing?
In wilds, Wyrmstake Cannon, Wyrmstake Full Blast, Multi Wyrmstake Full Blast now trigger bonus damage skills since TU4 I believe.
Main conversation is rather discussing normal shelling potentially outperforming wide with Full Blast combos utilising flayer?
Plan to test myself but thought someone probably has already done the maths
I'm quite unsure about which type of mortar to use (normal, long, or wide). Currently, I'm using the normal ore gunlance in HR, and I'm wondering if I should switch to a long one or invest in a wide gunlance. From what I've seen, the normal gunlance is more focused on combos where you unload all your ammo at once, the long one is a middle ground, and the wide one is focused on individual shots (a more defensive playstyle?). What do you think?
