Dipping my foot into Freedom Unite Gunlance

Any tips or warning? Seems like full burst/burst fire and charge shelling hasn't made an appearance in this game either. I wonder how the combo loop should be

Trying to find a way to slot a another earplug into the build

https://preview.redd.it/l8sgztfzcgbh1.png?width=840&format=png&auto=webp&s=f5076c799e48bf7399a2b49edf4c238d1425482c

I've been trying multiple setups for my gunlance build and this is the best one I've found so far but I've been trying to add earplug 3 for 2 hours without losing anything (apart from from adrenaline rush and aquatic mobility, idc about thoses two, quicksheath and speed eating aren't mandatory either but I'd like to keep them if possible). I know earplug 3 isn't needed on most monsters, and I know that I could lose one point of agitator or counterstrike if I really wanted earplug 3 but I want to believe there's a way to make it work (I'm okay with considering RNG charms in the equation but even with thoses I couldn't find a solution)

Hey its me again coming for advice (still trying to defeat gogma)

So, the thing is this, i have tried going with draco attack 3, elemental absorption and coalescence and i still can´t beat the damage check of the nova, i just put convert element 3 in the build too so i was wondering if the effects stack properly, or if due to elemental absorption i wont be able to proc coalescence, but if i can then i should have enough draco to pass the damage check... right? (Yes, i WIILL do that fucking damage check with gunlance, don´t tell me to change weapons or farcast)

How to play wide shelling effectively enough

I like wide shelling. Normal and long are fine, and fit some hunts better than wide, but overall, I get the most fun out of playing wide. At least in WorldBorne, 3U, GU, and Now.

In RiseBreak, though, I feel like wide keeps coming up lacking in terms of DPS and being able to even really keep up with the monsters. I'm just barely into MR4 on this playthrough of RB, and even though I really want to keep maining GL, I keep finding myself picking up the Narga LBG simply because GL hasn't been feeling very gunlance-y, and because RFP2 is just keeping up DPS way better than GL, so I opt to use that over GL when farming up mats for decos.

Now, I'm not necessarily looking to be meta with GL. I'm just looking to have fun with it without feeling like I'm doing no damage.

I couldn't even tell you what my build is exactly off the top of my head, but I do know that I at least have

  • Load Shells 2
  • Artillery 3
  • Guard 5
  • Guard Up 3
  • Quick Sheath 2 (or maybe 3)

For my switch skills, I'm using

  • Blast Dash
  • Guard Reload
  • Guard Edge
  • Erupting Canon
  • Ground Splitter

During hunts, I'm doing the typical wide shelling poke->shell, but then also spamming Guard Edge->Erupting Canon as often as possible both to get EC out as often as possible and to recover some sharpness, and using Guard Reload to keep the EC loaded. I'm using Ground Splitter for closing distances, buffing melee damage, and also firing off EC. Blast Dash serves also most the same purpose as Ground Splitter in terms of closing distances and being able to burst->EC, but it also doesn't have to leave me vulnerable at the end like Ground Splitter.

Bullet barrage doesn't seem to be super useful with wide shelling. It leaves you vulnerable for too long at the start and end of it, and the lower shell count and wyvern's fire damage don't seem worth it. Definitely better for long shelling.

Because I'm doing very few bursts and not relying on wyvern's fire, I'm also basically just ignoring Hail Cutter.

Reverse Blast just seems like a worse option for wide shelling compared to Ground Splitter or blast dash. It gives you mobility and can hit with that initial shell, but doesn't present to opportunity to combo right into EC easily or give a buff.

Charged shelling isn't even a consideration.

I'll try to sum up my complaints with GL as succinctly as possible, but we'll see how it goes.

With Rise being faster than the previous games, with more aggressive monsters and more options for the hunter to stay mobile and aggressive, it feels like GL attempted to keep the slow but hard hitting nature but in all the wrong ways. You get all these skills that allow you close distances quickly and remain mobile, but the animations and cooldowns seem to just linger on forever, leaving you vulnerable. Ground Splitter leaves you unable to do anything for long while at the end of it's animation, Guard Reload is slow but is vulnerable to multi-hit attacks from monsters, the wyrmstake takes a little bit to come out and then the animation takes forever to stop, etc...

Which is why I settled into spamming Guard Edge->Erupting Canon. Guard Edge comes out quick and can handle multi-hit combos, and then allows you to transition right into EC, which you can recover from quickly. But you still need to reload for EC, so you're still constantly going into the GR animation. Foregoing GR just means that you have to go out of your way to make sure that you don't "combo" into your quick reload, which is essentially just purposefully tanking your DPS.

It's not hard to learn when you should or shouldn't reload when using Guard Reload, but if you don't have a good window to do it, you're essentially just limited to some pokes and some upward swings. Since you know you're going to be using some pokes and swings, you want that Ground Splitter buff, but we've already mentioned that leaves you vulnerable at the end of it's animation. If you're waiting for an opportunity to reload because you're out of shells, then instead of being able to close the distance with a Blast Dash, you're now going to do your slow Guard Reload and then take the time to close the distance.

I don't know. The wide GL just feels lopsided. You can be fast, but then you need to slow way down if you want to keep up the damage and keep your shells loaded. You can go the slap lance route, but it just seems harder than in previous games to actually be able to do anything other than poke or get out a rising slash, and if you want that melee buff, you still need to be slowed down by Ground Splitter. The game wants you to go fast, but then forces you to slow back down. I'm fine with GL being a slower weapon. It just doesn't feel like it meshes very well with RiseBreak overall.

So what the hell am I doing wrong with wide GL here?

Edit: I guess Heaven-Sent would make wide GL with EC spam more fluid and less vulnerable, but it's not available until MR6.

Omega Savage Help.

I'm having trouble clearing Omega Savage with friends. I need help choosing the best build. What are the top attacks and combos, and what's the best way to take aggro?

Thank you, fellow Gunlancers, in advance.

Hey dumb question but, how do i prevent gogma nova with gunlance?

Yeah sure i need a draco GL but should i hit him with shells? The lance itself? Wyvern fire? Wyrmstakes? Run draco up lvl3? And when does the damage check begins? When he reaches the 3rd state or when he's charging the nova?

What are the best Builds for Survivability or DPS?

I want DPS to make hunts faster, but I also want survivability builds to help with 9 star hunts. Also, is it worth getting 7 or 6 levels of defense if I have the slots?

Im considering getting gog armor because of it. Though I don't really like Adrenaline Rush (I'm more into parrying).

I can't beat AT Arkveld. What am I doing wrong? :(

Coming back to the game after a few month break and working on a solo AT Arkveld kill and I just can't get myself to do it. I was able to get my kills and a full set through support hunters and SOS hunts, but I've never actually been able to kill him entirely by myself.

I can survive for 20 minutes and get all of my perfect blocks in, I'm using the environmental damages, and I'm using pitfall traps when he transitions to a new area. But it all kind of just falls apart starting from a few minutes prior to that and I get messy.

I have a perfect meta set with Odo/Soul, I'm at the Dragon resist breakpoint, and have 3 stun resist gems. I guess I could be using a comfort set, but I don't think it would really solve the problem that I have with the fight. I'm just not putting out the damage that I should be putting out.

I think my biggest problem is that I'm not using enough WSFB combos. For most of the fight, I'm following up perfect blocks with full bursts and using full burst combos to put out damage in the mean time while using WSFB when he's staggered which.. isn't happening a lot.

I'm also using Wide shelling and mostly using instant shots rather than charged shots which is also probably not helping my damage output.

I don't know, this is half a vent post and half a request for tips on how to put out more damage. I feel like with my gear the hunt should be over before 20 minutes, but I'm not doing something right.

Why do you think the Gunlance changes so much from one game to the next?

In Generations, we had the heat gauge; in World, that was completely removed and we got the Wyrmstake Cannon; in Rise, the weapon changed so much it felt like a different one; and in Wilds, it has undergone significant changes as well. When comparing it to its cousin, the Lance—which has seen very few changes over time—it becomes evident that Capcom isn't quite sure what to do with the Gunlance.

What are the best armor skills in Wilds (for GL obviously)

Im HR 58, did the Slay Zoa Shia quests, have the current east weapon (G. Lawful Bors) and now I don't really know what armors to get. It's hard to choose with the Weapon/Armor Deco split being annoying to work around + Shelling scaling with raw attack adding complexity that wasn't there in past games.

What's the best Gunlance iteration for you?

For me it's gonna be Rise Sunbreak. Even in the base game each shelling has their own distinctive playstyle. It's not the strongest and traditionally gunlance has always been on the lower end of the spectrum. But it's not too far below like the older games

The full burst loop got very exciting with blast dash and reverse blast dash. Making hail cutter requires 2 wirebug kills its use in the earlier update. Glad they make it only one later. Spamming bullet barrage and force a random to quit because of frustation for being blown away while trying to cut monster tails was hillarious. And guard reload wide is extremely underrated

my I wish it was better would be GU. I love Valor gunlance. I love to use shelling but man, it's the book definition of meme weapon. The damage is completely pathetic even though it's fun to use. The meta play for gunlance in this game was adept style while only using shelling to build up heat gauge. But I don't want to play the lesser lance. For me, gunlance is defined by its shelling. Not using that I'd rather play other weapons

and the most disappointing iterations would be Wilds gunlance. Prior to Wilds release during the week where each day we have new weapon trailer, I was super excited with Wyrmstake fullblast. Joke on me, it makes gunlance lost its distinction between shelling types. Shelling types is completely irrelevant in gameplay variations because every shells plays exactly the same: land as many wyrmstake full blast as much as you can while waiting for wyvern fire cooldown. From here people quick to point out wide shelling with the best wyvern fire damage is the king of everything. And if you for whatever reason want to do poke shell playstyle, it can do that while doing every other moves better than any other shellings with very few exceptions where wide is only insignificantly worse

Returning player to Wilds, looking for some help

Howdy everyone, so I used to play Wilds a lot when it first came out, got a few months deep into it and cleared the story. That was back when the endgame was making artian weapons and hoping for the best. Well, after I stopped playing to fiddle with some of my backlog, we got set on a surge deployment and for the last 11 months I haven't been able to play.

My last time playing, the best way to use Gunlance was to basically sweep the monster with explosions until you could do a full burst, meaning skills to increase explosive damage, increase your shells, etc were essential for the big dps numbers. To be honest, I'm not even sure if this was the most optimal way to play gunlance, it was just really fun for me.

Anyways, to the real questions: I wanted to know what skills are favorable for someone whos going to be coming back at the point where Artian Weapons are the best I have, and if any of them overlap with a secondary weapon like Charge Blade or Switch Axe. I also was curious what the BnB combos are to look into. Currently my internet doesn't allow me to watch Youtube, so written guides are preferable please

Thank you for the advice in advance!

Which Gunlance should I go for?

I'm HR 48 and just hunted (and saved as investigation) my first Tempered Arkveld. I have a Maganize/Attack 3 with lol 2 load shells, and a Artillery 2 and 1 jewels. I can fit the full Gunlance skills on both the Jin Dallas Gunlance and G. Lawful GL, but dont know which is better. The Lawful bors has a lot more attack but the Jin GL has better sharpness.
