Hey everyone!

I wanted to start a discussion to see what your thoughts are on the new Gwen skin. Honestly, I fell in love with it from the very first moment, so much so that I couldn't resist making an exclusive profile for her to honor it.

The chromas look absolutely amazing, especially the Pearl one, which is easily my favorite.

The only thing that left me a bit disappointed is that the bundle doesn't come with a border... which feels like a huge shame. I'm not really sure what Riot's reason was for leaving it out this time, or if there's any chance they'll add it later in a future event (though at this point I kind of doubt it). I really love collecting borders, so I really wish they'd update it.

What about you guys? Did you like the base design, did you pick up any chromas, or do you feel like something was missing? Let me know!

Help with Ornn

idk what to do here, nor how I got so far behind him in items. Died twice to him early in lane (yeah myb) so he came back with a hollow radiance by level 9-10 and after that I just couldn't fight him. My farm wasn't too far behind him (we were even in lane phase) and he only got the 1 more kill after he got HR.

my E just wasnt enough to get away from him, if I used it to dodge his QE then he'd ult and have his QE ready again after wards, plus the stun from his W.

I'm super rusty with Gwen overall but even then I'd struggle into Ornn.

I felt so weak compared to him even when I had 1 item to his 1 item + 1 component. I went void staff 2nd since he went so much MR only, but it took me basically the whole 27min just to finish 2nd item.

I spent so much of my time cc'd (at least 3sec every time) so I'm not sure what to do about my survivability. I had bone plating and unflinching, which I spent 92sec with bonus resistances from unflinching so I don't feel like it was bad it still just wasnt enough.

Should I just not try to fight him in the early game before items? I almost killed him once after I got DnD but that was the only time it was ever close. Or maybe I should have taken ignite or something more aggressive/defensive for summoner spells?

Gwen is the BIGGEST winner in Top lane this patch!!

Riot restored her passive to *almost* it's old state. They increased the healing percent, caps, and AP ratio. This gives her much more sustain in the early game, letting her get to her powerful late-game more consistently.

Obviously, a couple other Top laners were buffed, but I thought the Gwen change was the biggest deal. What do you all think?

Gwen Mid questions ✂️🪡

I am not historically a Gwen player but really enjoy the champ so wanted to try her mid (I am a mid lane Katarina main). I wanted to ask the dedicated mains some questions about it. I haven't been finding great success with it tbh. Around 40% win rate across ~32 games. I am in low emerald.

Runes

I have tried running both Stormraider's Surge and First Strike and I can't decide which is better. I always go inspiration or sorcery as my secondary (for scaling). Also any thoughts on approach velocity to help run people down?

Summoner Spells

I almost always run TP + ghost. But I feel like flash is much safer than ghost? What do you guys recommend? Is ignite better than TP?

Items

I tried Dusk and Dawn and the build path is just so bad... Once I finish it I think I prefer it over Lich Bane but the laning phase while building this item is torture. I never have enough money for an early blasting wand and have to build the other components first. I have tried Lich and the build path is much nicer but I feel as though my mid game playstyle lends better to DnD (split push/side laning). My build overall is usually DnD/Lich -> Sorc boots -> Shadowflame -> Rabadon -> Void/Zhonyas/Malignance/Banshees.

Early game

I find this champ's early game quite difficult, especially pre lvl 3. Which is funny because I main katarina and she is also very bad early levels. Should I be essentially not touching the wave at all pre lvl 3 versus mages? I often get poked out lvl 2 pretty bad. On kata if I am against a poke-heavy lane I just go dorans shield + second wind and am fine but I feel like on Gwen I should be playing maximum scaling runes? I also always start dorans ring for the mana but is dorans shield worth it?

Which mid laners am I able to fight early? Or is her early game that bad that I should always just do short trades and play for scaling? It is difficult for me to not fight early since on kata I am always looking for a lvl 2/3 solo kill. So this playstyle is quite different.

Jungle prio?

Gwen almost never gets prio as a mid laner. What should I do if my jungler is being invaded or my jungler wants my help at an early fight? Am I supposed to just mute all and perma farm? Is gwen typically able to help at these fights? I know it varies game to game but what do you guys usually do in regards to your/enemy jungler?

Mid game

I try to side lane and split push mostly. I feel like this is harder to do though as a midlaner... am I supposed to be primarily team fighting as mid lane Gwen? What is the general rule of thumb for split pushing vs team fighting? On kata the macro is usually: push side lane closest to objective -> run to teamfight -> get triple kill :D. Is mid lane Gwen not so different?

Also - since I am not running conqueror, would you say that I'd want to mostly avoid fighting top laners in the side lane unless very fed/scaled?

Thanks for reading

TL;DR

  • Low emerald Kata main wanting to play mid lane Gwen.
  • Stormraider's Surge vs First Strike + defensive runes for hard lanes?
  • Ghost vs Flash? Ignite vs TP?
  • DnD vs Lich bane?
  • Early game playstyle?
  • How to play with no prio and/or what to do when jungler wants help?
  • Mid game split push vs team fight?

I Miss Full Bruiser.

I get she is doing fine right now but it doesn't really feel the same compared to back then. The Full AP route is her best option but it plays quite differently compared to Riftmaker Nashors combo. Gwid is her best option right now with Lichbane rush and Shadowflame second. It looks SO cursed as an OG Gwen main. I still play her she is my fav. This reminds me of Seraphine somewhat with how on release she was always made to be an AP mage but now she is relegated to enchanter cause they gutted her ratios

Gwen passive is a shadow of how it was so now you are forced to go heavily in AP with lack of attack speed or other utility like health to compensate for it.

Has anyone tried Stormraiders Surge Gwen?

I tried it once vs ranged top i liked it. I wonder if anyone tried it as well whether in top or other lanes. Mouvement speed is useful to either disengage or stick to targets, the sorcery tree is great, and first strike is unreliable in certain matchups esepcially in mid. I feel like stormraider can be thus viable. If anyone tried Stormraiders let me know how you feel about it

How op is gwen now?

I havn’t played gwen in a while but tbh she feels extremely op. ive played from plat 4 already almost emerald. I used to be an otp for like 2 years until the huge nerfs so i can’t really tell after not playing for a bit.

ps: i also play her jg and i always build nashors first and dnd second. just seems like its working with the new passive buff

Honestly pretty dissapointed in how the face turned out, but overall happy with that I did. I think it looks better in real life but maybe im coping

Why Mid > Top

It basicly comes down to why is assasain Gwen better than bruiser Gwen.

A lot quantitative reasons can be listed: mid quest being op, better matchups, lich bane buffs, etc..

But My take is that what makes her so good comes down to Gwen’s best ability, hallowed mist (W)

W duration is 4 seconds But acts like 2 completely diferent abilities in a fight, these parts i like to call:

GII : as in gwen is inmune.

GIP : as in Gwen is protected, since She gets some def stats during this part.

The 4 seconds are split into GII and GIP depending on when does the enemy champion enter the mist. I think is pretty clear that during a fight Gwen’s objective is to maximize GII.

So W “scales” with how much damage you can do during de GII because If u get them down to 20 % hp during this time they have to back up, on the other hand, If they manage to enter your mist healthy Its over.

Is Kinda the same reason as why Sion would not utilize Kayle’s R as efficiently as She does, is not the second of invulnerabiltiy whats op, is what She does during that time.
