New, simple, efficient build that flies A-M-A-Z-I-N-G

Switching from a naked vista to HDzero lite VTX made me love HDZ (again). That 3.5" is fast, nimble, light, and built to take on crashes after crashes. I also just finished tubing it and the feel on the sticks is crisp. It's really a massive pleasure to fly on 3s but also 4s. Oh and it does not make that much noise which my neighbors appreciate.

Why again - I know you saw it-? I have strabismus and in the HDZ goggles, my eyes have a hard time adjusting (unlike the DJI G3 and G1). Things appear doubled, which is super troublesome.

Since this is not a whoop, I don't need to be super focused on that narrow gap, and this helps a lot with the view. In addition, with the higher antenna, I can fly around trees and even my house (concrete house).

That range is plenty enough to send it :)

How do I set my Mobula 6 Freestyle (AIO5 with Lux cam) to 16:9? I must be doing something wrong

I have set the camera to 16:9 in the camera settings, but it just results in a very squashed 16:9 - it is not filling the available width in my HDZ Goggle 2. Is there some other setting I need to apply so that it stretches? I checked the firmware version of the VTX and it's 1.6.0 if that matters..

How robust is the AIO5 for full throttling?

I often hear that the AIO5 is very sturdy but nobody talks about the amp rating limit or any other problems you might encounter in its lifetime. Most things I hear about it are mostly only from loyal HDZ customers that probably have a lot of money to afford everything HDZ has to offer and likely flew one for less than an hour's total, so there's hardly any criticism on it. As a critical person myself, despite how much of a marvel of engineering it is, all I can see from it is that the AIO5 frankly looks like it will be a headache with little problems (e.g. SPI receiver, VTX/ELRS antennas all need to be bent away and more vulnerable to potential damage to reduce RF interference etc.) and if something breaks that's instantly -$100USD down the drain plus another month of waiting for shipment. But in return, you save some ~6 grams of weight from having a seperated VTX/FC board.

The HDZ AIO5 is officially rated 5A continuous, up to 6A per motor.
My 25000KV motors draw about 7.2A each at full throttle and that's including 30% bat sag compensation, so it could very well be needing in excess of 8 amps unimpeded. Logically thinking, this means I'd overstress the mosfets, but at the same time nobody I've talked to has had issues with it and there are also 14+A ESCs out there that have blown up while running 7A motors.

The AIO5 is already an expensive board as is for a tiny whoop, and its vtx is known to eat a lot of power, so do you think it's only viable with strict throttle limiting?
Does the low amp rating also mean the motors run a lot less efficient?
How much flight time can I expect for a 75mm? (I currently get about 6:30 minutes hover time with my current setup with GF 1614s)

For those who already bought an AIO5, do you think it was a worthy purchase? Or would you rather just stay on analog for tiny whoops?

Air65 II CE + HDZero Goggles 2. Shockingly good DVR.

TrueRC antennas on the goggles and the 0.2 gramme whip antenna on the Air65 II Championship Edition.

I expected it to look a whole lot worse.

HDZ BoxPro+ (QUESTION)

Hey, so I'm a relatively new pilot to the FPV community with only about 5 months of flying, but my birthday is coming up in a month and am wondering about some things with the BoxPro+ goggles (as present/from money). I fly only analog at the moment, but am open to the HDZero HD system. I tried out my friend's BoxPro goggles earlier today with my analog 3.5", and so far like them a lot more than my current (Fat Shark Echo) goggles.

My main question is this: how 'worth it' has the googles been for anybody that's owned them? Like I'm wondering if I should go with these or get only analog goggles for cheaper that work similar/same way as the HDZ ones but without being compatible with HDZ camera units.

Another one was how does HDZ units compare to analog in terms of penetration and overall image quality? I can't seem to get a direct answer on that, like I know analog is cheaper and overall better for freestyle (I think), but I've heard mixed things about actual penetration or signal range and distance. I fly freestyle, and my main limiter is not getting the range I want (also with a 400mW vtx but idk.

Please grant me your knowledge on this topic, it would really help.

Thanks!

Edit: Thank you to everyone that has given good, detailed feedback! Overall I've seen mostly positives, with the only negative being that there are better goggles, but for more than double the price so I'll likely be getting these ones!

HDZero Goggles 2 flip up halo strap

After dealing with the discomfort caused by the band and face foam, I decided to try my hand at designing a flip up strap that repurposes one of my old Quest3 straps that I wasn't using. This is using the cheapo KKCOBVR strap for the Q3.

I've tried using a FatStrap, different face foams and even printing a band riser to try to get the band over my ears. However, anything I tried would either bend my ears, rest uncomfortably on my ears/face, or simply resorting to a compromise where the band feels way to high on the back of my head.

After fiddling with this design, I've found that the HDZero almost requires you to squish your face into the foam in order to fully see the screen and eliminate light leak. This could also be caused by my specific face shape/size. Since there is no band or spring to press the headset into your face, getting the headset to sit vertically on your eyes and pushed far enough in to get the full view of the screen requires a lot of fiddling. Not to mention this thing doesn't collapse so it no longer fits into my backpack. I also may need to shorten the vertical mount so the halo strap doesn't sit right on my hair line, which also hurts after a while.

In comparison to VR headsets like the VIVE, Quest, Steam Index and even the Apple Vision Pro, the HDZero Goggles 2 still feels quite uncomfortable for me. I hadn't thought about posting the 3D files since I feel like this is somewhat of a failed attempt, but if anyone wants the CAD files, message me. At least this was a fun short experiment that let me test the limits of what is possible with the Goggles 2 and I'll likely just resort to using the default strap and have it sit too high on the back of my head or have it over my ears.

Any aftermarket Goggle 2 carry/transport cases that fit mounted analog module?

Rapidfire mounted on the side in the expansion bay. Has anyone found an aftermarket case that fits the whole package neatly inside?

Just got the goggles 2, they are amazing.

so I’m a noob to this hobby so far, and I was looking for a great goggle to start with, one that has support for multiple systems and had low latency. Then I came across this goggle. They are really good so far, worth the money. First piece of hdzero equipment. I’m going to use them for simulators. One issue is that my hair is too long and it touches the top grey fan.

(I don’t know why I’m writing this here but sorry to anyone offended or smth)

Onboard DVR?

Has anyone worked out an onboard DVR solution for HDZero yet? Considering analog onboard DVRs exist, It seems like with the way the Eco and Lux cameras connect, it would be possible to record their signal with an analog onboard DVR, and then decode that signal after the fact on a computer or something. I guess analog DVRs are going to be encoding that signal into a lossy digital format though, so perhaps the HDZero signal would be unrecoverable. I don't know.

All I know is that is would be nice to have a way to record the HDZero camera signal onboard, to have a decent static-free recording without needing the weight of an action camera!

Goggles 2 sometimes records in .ts, sometimes records in .mp4

I have the Hdzero goggles 2 running the latest firmware (9.5.1) and they are set to auto record .mp4. I didn't change any settings and flew 12 packs of analog and the goggles recorded in .ts format. Then I turned off the goggles and a few hours later I went to a different spot. I changed no settings and the next 12 packs recorded in .mp4. Any idea what triggers this phenomenon because it's not the first time it's happened.
