How come Portsmouth and Southampton are so different to the rest of Hampshire?

When most people think of Hampshire, they think of wealth, beautiful gardens, stately homes, Winchester etc and for the most part a lot of Hampshire is like this, however, how come Portsmouth and Southampton are so vastly different and almost like an entirely different county?

I'm taking a chance. Hosting my first full band lineup on the 2nd October. Giving some local bands the opportunity of the big stage

So I'm doing something that scares me. I'm hosting my first full band night at the loft Southampton. Everyone has been asking for it, so why not? We have a full lineup of bands, and the best part of all they get a profit split from the event. If you truly want to see local bands flourish, then this is the event to come and support. Buy a ticket to support local music it really is as simple as that.

Fly Fishing in Hampshire

Hi everyone,
I recently completed a foundation fly fishing course at Nether Wallop Mill and absolutely loved it. I’d really like to get into the sport properly, but I’m struggling to find anywhere to fish regularly.

I live in Winchester and most of the places I’ve found are either fully booked, extremely expensive, or operate on a mandatory catch-and-keep basis.
Can anyone recommend any beginner-friendly waters or clubs where I can fish regularly without breaking the bank? Ideally I’m looking for catch-and-release fishing, and I don’t mind driving up to an hour from Winchester.

I’m open to rivers, lakes, clubs or fisheries—I’d just like somewhere I can build my skills without spending £80–100 every time I go.
Any recommendations would be hugely appreciated. Thanks! 🎣

Solar Eclipse Glasses

Hi,

Very short notice but does anyone know of any stores that might sell glasses for the eclipse tomorrow? Been looking since Saturday, when I found out that was happening, and can’t find any.

Any help would be really appreciated.

Thanks
