Virtual clutch

Setting aside the lack of engine noise and vibration, the clutch is the one thing I wish I had on my Del Mar.

It’s doable though… If I could add one feature to the bike, it would be a virtual clutch. Yes. A left hand lever. Not only because my left hand feels empty, but I’d love on occasion to disengage the engine brake.

Think of a red light. The engine brake will take you all the way to a full stop. It would be great to be able to pull a lever to coast at snails pace just before getting to a full stop.

Lane filtering in heavy traffic would also benefit from that, especially when the pack is slowing…

Similarly, I’d love to be able to coast, rather than engine brake when I’m coming down a mountain…

I get that the roll fwd regen is doing the exact opposite, as in you could a custom ride mode with zero regen and play with the roll fwd to engine brake when you need. But the missing clutch lever is exactly the one thing I’m missing for this ride experience to feel complete.

One can dream. What do you think?

EU 134/2014 Electric Range Test Procedure

Abschnitt Dauer Anteil Gesamtzeit Durchschnitts-Tempo Strecke Anteil Gesamtstrecke
Teil 1 (Stadt) 10 Min. (600 s) 33,3 % 24,4 km/h 4,07 km 14,1 %
Teil 2 (Landstraße) 10 Min. (600 s) 33,3 % 54,7 km/h 9,11 km 31,5 %
Teil 3 (Autobahn) 10 Min. (600 s) 33,3 % 94,4 km/h 15,74 km 54,4 %
Gesamt 30 Min. (1800 s) 100 % ~58 km/h 28,92 km 100 %

Need LW1 tail light wiring harness…

So my taillight assembly snapped while riding and hung on by the wiring harness and now I don’t have working taillight. Does anyone have info on getting a new one or which of the available ones from Harley would fit?? I found a few with very similar looking connectors that look like they match but I can’t be sure. I appreciate any info about this. Thanks yall!! Ride safe!!

S2 Del Mar in classic flat track livery

Livewire claims heritage from Harley flat track days.

I’d love to take it one step further and customize my own Del Mar to pay hommage to the Harley XR750 flat-track in its classic Evel Knievel livery.

What do you think of this mockup of the S2DM in this livery with chrome wheels, handlebar and front suspension?

Parked next to a Mulholland in the garage at work today.

Rare to see another one in public, let alone in the same building.

A Cautionary Tale/A Rant of Frustration

I have an '24 S2 Mulholland. I love it. It's the perfect motorcycle for me, my style, and my level of expertise. I've always spoken highly of the bike but then again I never needed service for an issue like I'm seeing now nor needed it from a company that is clearly dying quite quickly. So my story goes...

Don't buy a Livewire motorcycle. If you already have one, don't let your 12V battery run down.

I made that mistake, but thought I could correct it easily enough. I ordered the exact replacement from Livewire, installed it, and all was well operating the bike. It even successfully performed an OTA update as soon as it had fresh 12V power.

But then I plugged the bike in to charge the propulsion battery. It won't charge anymore, not via L1 or L2.

I took it to the dealer. They found it to be a failed power unit. The dealer can't order that part. Livewire has to connect to the motorcycle and verify the failure and then they will send the part. They told the dealer they'd send it for arrival Monday the 11th. Not only has it not arrived, Livewire reports they have no idea what's going on with the order. They see it in their computer, but it hasn't shipped and they don't know why.

It is impossible to reach anyone at Livewire itself. They never reply to emails, they don't have a phone number that works, and their chat system is AI only with no connection to an actual person.

When the last phone call with your dealer is "we don't know when or if we'll hear back from the manufacturer" then it's time to start thinking about selling the bike, but it's going to be like getting rid of an Edsel.

EDIT 19May2026

The dealer found someone at Livewire who was able to figure out the order problem and the part was eventually shipped. They got the bike onto the bench and were able to complete the maintenance and I got the bike back Sunday. I have ridden it enough to drain the battery and it charges correctly. So far I think it is in good working order. I didn't know how big the part was until I saw the old one, but it's basically everything but the battery and the electric motor, it's the whole electronics assembly that includes charging, regen, propulsion, etc.

Relatedly, Livewire reported to my dealer that they don't know what happened to the order or why it needed manual intervention.

200 miles down and I cant stop riding it

Its like when I "quit" smoking and would find stupid reason to leave the house. Well I eventually quit smoking, but this is giving me similar vibes. Here is a dump of photos from yesterday. I also shot a roll of film on my Hasselblad. but those don't come back for another week. It was fun thinking about riding an all electric bike while photography it with a fully mechanical camera

Fog lights?

I've always wanted to add some fog light options to my bikes, and have been looking at some online. These are from SW Motech and are currently on sale for $262.50. These are in the sweet zone for power draw, no more than 5a (we can use 10a) of 12v signal and come with a switch. I haven't seen them in person, so can't say how bright/effective they are yet.

Who else is interested? Might be something I pursue and provide for the communities.

This clip popped off when I was drying my bike after washing, and I can’t find where it goes!
