Another price drop!!

LiveWire just updated the pricing on their site:

LiveWire ONE: Starting at $13,999

At $14k new with DC fast charging, fully adjustable Showa suspension, Brembo brakes, and 100 hp / 84 lb-ft of torque, this drastically shifts the value proposition against other middleweight electrics.

Slightly used prices are already reasonable but this will push them further down. Is an incredible machine now with a serious value proposition.

Interstate Range of LW1?

Curious to know, from actual owners, what kind of practical range you get when riding the LW1 on the interstate (and specifically driving 70-75MPH).

Regen unavailable at full charge

S2 alpinista here.

Call it another reason to never hit 100pc charge, but I’ve been caught by surprise on my way to work in the morning with no engine brake.

Fortunately no harm done as I could react. But I’ve been getting used to riding most of my commute without touching my brakes, so I was a little bit startled not to getting any engine braking.

The problem is that there is no engine brake at 100pc, and it only becomes available a few pc of charge down. This all makes sense because when you’re at full charge, regen shouldn’t be available as the battery has no storage left to store more energy.

But it would be great, if Livewire could software update our dash to show when regen is unavailable.

Anyone has a similar take on this?

Grinding noise

Has anybody (besides me) experienced grinding noise coming from the bottom of the S2 models while charging and while ready? As soon as I plug it in, or as soon as I hit the start button, my Alpinista will make an oscillating grinding noise.

Wasn't happy with the color, decided to wrap it

Playing with color and decided to try learning to wrap. Look out, Slim Shady!

I learned a lot. It ain't perfect, but looks really good to me. C+, maybe, but I am pretty happy with it and enjoyed the frustrating process. I think I will do my Del Mar next with much higher quality vinyl. I'm out $30 for the cheap stuff. The Mulholland was white.

LiveWire S2 Del Mar's Haptic Heartbeat charted

I noticed that the S2 Del Mar appears to have a heartbeat at idle. When I researched it, some people said they felt it also, some said they don't. LiveWire does not officially advertise whether this bike has it, but the LiveWire One has it and its configurable on that bike.

The heartbeat is so subtle that I couldn't really tell if it was my heartbeat or the bike itself.

However, if you have read my other post about CAN bus reverse engineering - this is a small follow up using the same data.

Using the CAN bus data, I charted the CAN frame 0x161 which contains "torque_delivered" field and discovered a perfect 75bpm idle heartbeat.

  • Same 75 bpm falls out three independent ways: counting the pulses, autocorrelation (0.80 s), and the frequency spectrum (178× the noise floor).
  • It shows up in the torque command, not just the actual output — a pump, a sensor glitch, or control hunting couldn’t do that. The controller is asking for it.
  • Present only when the bike is ready and stopped; gone while charging, gone the instant you move.
  • It matches Livewire’s documented “Haptic Heartbeat” on the One point-for-point: a torque pulse felt at a ready stop that quits when you ride off.
  • ~75 bpm is a resting heart rate — and this measured number is something Livewire never published.

Notes: unlike the One, the S2 gives the rider no setting for it (no soft/hard/off) — it just runs. And this is a torque pulse drawn as a chart, not a cardiac ECG — same rhythm, different signal.

Interestingly, the chart looks EXACTLY like a real heartbeat ECG, much to my surprise, because I wouldn't have expected Livewire's engineers to expect anybody to ever chart this data.

You can view my chart here: S2 Del Mar — idle heartbeat (raw telemetry)

Such a neat attention to detail from LiveWire haha.
