Since my announcement post the other day, I have been hard at work improving the OCTGN package and I wanted to provide an update on where we are at currently:
I would LOVE to hear feedback from anyone actually using this thing! I am more than happy to keep improving it, as long as it's getting used. I just don't know if anyone is actually playing it or if I am wasting my time on all these upgrades.

This is the first vehicle Ive encountered and I'm not really sure HOW to use it. I understand wonder woman summons it, but is it simply there to grant her 12 movement? I'm lost, any insight would be appreciated though
After much work and testing, I am proud to announce the beta build for HeroClix on OCTGN!
(OCTGN is a free, open-source gaming platform for playing games online with friends. It is Windows-only, but I have heard that some people managed to get it working on Linux and Mac.)
I built this because I wanted something a little simpler to set up and use than Roll20. I wrote a script that let me build dial images automatically from data extracted from HCUnits, and used that same data to build the card data files, so HUGE thanks to the HCUnits team for making all that data available!
It's got complete dial images, so you don't need to cross-reference anything to see what stats and abilities a character has. It has several little quality of life improvements, with many more planned if this gets any traction. There is plenty of automation I would like to add, and I am happy to get input on things you'd like to see added.
SETUP
The setup process is a ONE-TIME process and will take less than 5 minutes. Once installed it will automatically update and won't require anything more from you.
If you have any questions, comments, feedback, suggestions, etc. send them my way! I am hoping people get some use out of this, and if enough people like it I plan to add a lot more features!
Edit: This morning I replaced the playmat image because I kind of hated it. It's now a plain "table" background, but you can right-click to choose from a few different options. I can add more with very little effort, so let me know!

I have a question about Lobo’s trait “THE MAIN MAN LIKES THINGS WILD.”
Does the trait allow any character with the Team Player (TA) to passively have access to any Team Ability (TA) present on the map? Or do they still have to use Team Player to choose one of the TAs that is on the map?
How would this work in the case of TAs like:
since these have to be declared at the beginning of the game?
So I understand that if I have three characters with Poison surrounding an opposing character, that those are three instances of 1 Poison damage. If three Rats surround an opposing character and Ratcatcher activates Poison, is that 3 damage or still three instances of 1 damage? Thanks!
I used to love running this team in different iterations. Constantine and Madame Xanadu were staples, but I always rotated the rest in. Selling all 11 as a lot for $46 on eBay.
This card says "When Vision is given a MOVE action, after resolutions you deal an adjacent opposing characters 1 damage."
If I fail to break away with Vision and move 0 spaces, does his damage still happen?
Collected some over a decade ago and wondering if anything here is worth the effort to sell. Anyone have success selling on eBay?
Regarding the first trait that says "When Lobo would be KO'd by an opposing effect," can I use that trait if I'm hit by a ranged attack?
Or would an "opposing effect" refer to something like damage from the Mystics Team Ability, for example?
Hey everyone, big important question for y’all, how does your LGS define ‘casual’?
This may be a silly question but I think many communities may face this as a serious problem that could be affecting their community growth. The definition of a casual game has been very loose / abstract and I’m hoping to create or know of any firm guard rails that help people make teams of similar power levels during weekly game nights. This is important because right now playing a casual game is left up to so much interpretation, leaving large gaps of power levels between players. As such, it’s not uncommon to see one player stomp another in 15 minutes which honestly feels bad for both parties.
Personally, I remember getting stomped hard during a casual night by a Kong. It felt so bad that after a few weeks of this, I felt the need to match that power level as something like this was happening too frequently. As a result I ended up stomping others and the cycle continued until basically we’ve lost touch with playing casual games. Unfortunately I believe some players have left because they didn’t have the means or didn’t agree with having to play with or against meta every week. And I can’t help but agree with that sentiment.
I believe having firm or defined rules to play by should be set in place as a form of setting expectations for the night. Borrowing a concept from MTG, their commander format has hard restrictions on what you can and cannot play to keep things casual.
To start I think casual games should ban any:
- banned or restricted elements or characters in silver or modern
- watch list characters or elements
- top 100 meta characters or elements on hcunits for both silver and modern
Casual should restrict:
- sideline active slots to 1-2
- number of equipment used to 1-2
So what has your community done to prevent power creep from ruining casual HeroClix ?
According to Lobo’s ability, it says that when would bae KO he goes to his card. So, if I’m going to KO him with an attack, does his “UN-FRAGGIN-BELIEVABLE” trait not trigger?
If that’s the case, then why does STOP trigger if the attack is considered an effect?
So, what exactly counts as an effect?
I played In like 2003, wondering If I was able to get some old clix if the game was still fun at all if you only use the older figures?
I haven't played in at least 4 years now, but this is a big chunk of my collection. I also enjoy taking macro shots of figures and sometimes modifying figures. Ive been playing since Infinity Challenge, but this is my 2nd time collecting. This collection started in 2014. My local Comic Shop hosts games, but I got tired of rude or aggressive players. I most enjoyed playing with my younger sibling, friends & co-workers from the Hobby Shop I worked at for a while. I also have a backpack full of game maps. I've thought of getting rid of my collection, but that seems daunting and I feel I might regret losing my clix collection a 2nd time. I would like to display some of my favorite pieces, but that's not currently an option. At one point my goal was to get at least 1 good version of most every character I could think of, but I haven't bought new figures in a few years now.
