Canyoning level 3

Hi guys me and my friend want to do canyoning level 3 but have no experience of canyoning before. I have seen a video of people doing this without any experience and be fine. We are both fit lads who go to the gym, hike and are into fitness.

Will it be okay for us to do level 3 as we arent really interested in the other levels and like doing crazy experiences like this.

I’m an idiot… Can anybody help source PR8 morning tickets in next few days

So, firstly I’m an idiot. I had no idea you had to pre-book hikes, that is a very new concept to me, and it’s putting a real downer on our family holiday.

I’m here with my wife and toddler and so our availability to hike is pretty limited depending on nap schedules and general mood whilst she’s sat in my rucksack so mornings are best.

PR8 looks perfect for us, but it’s fully sold out for a long time for non residents. We move to the west side on the 24th so I was wondering if anybody can help me source tickets before then. Residents? Excursion companies? 🤞

I would love to pay you back in cold corals in return.

Pic of happy hikers on PR 11 for good measure!

Best PRs in Madeira

I am doing a hiking trip in Madeira in November. Keen to understand what the best PRs are. Obviously PR1, PR9 etc are really popular but keen to hear what people thoughts on some of the less popular ones are and which ones I can't miss.

Thanks in advance

Almost all car rental companies I've checked so far seem really scammy. Any recommendations?

It's crazy. There are so many companies I must have checked 20 of them by now. They all have hundreds and thousands reviews on google and a review of 4.9 or something lol but most of those reviews are clearly bots becase whenever you read about any one of them on Reddit it's just horror stories about getting charged for damage, refusing to return the deposit etc. etc. Some of those companies have thousands of reviews on google but 0 reviews on trust pilot lol, what the crap.

Honestly I just want a fair company that isn't going to scam me. Any recent great experiences with any of the car rental companies?

Is Pico Grande accessible via PR12 right now?

Hi guys! My girlfriend and me would like to do a hike to Pico Grande via PR12. But it seems like only the first 3.5 km of PR12 are currently accessible.

Is the path accessible to the point where you take the path to Pico Grande (near Relvinha) or is that not possible currently?

Thank you very much!

Torn calf muscle 3 weeks before hiking trip

Well I have torn my calf muscle 3 weeks before we are supposed to be in Madeira for a hiking trip. Horrible timing and I feel so bad for screwing up the trip for my wife too. We’ve had this planned for years. Does anyone have any suggestions on basic/very low strenuous options for views, or small flat’ish hikes that I can do with crutches?

Absolutely gutted that this has happened and am unable to postpone my trip unfortunately without losing a few thousand dollars on flights. Insurance won’t cover me as technically I’m still “able to fly”

Thanks in advance

Hike ticket timing

This is my first time visiting Madeira and I purchased tickets to hike PR1. I am concerned that if my flight is delayed, I won’t make my 1pm reservation. How strict is the ticket time when buying a hike in Madeira? Will I be able to use the ticket to go later in the day or will I have to repurchase the tickets?

Gear fear(on a budget)

Hello! I am planning to visit the island in August.I plan on doing Pico Ruivo(sunrise), Pr8, Pr9 and other hikes maybe
I am really confused as to what i should wear.
For now i have:
Hiking shoes
Wool hiking socks
Polyester gym shirt
A wool cardigan that i would think would work as a mid layer
Some short pants
Dechatlon raincut overpants
Dechatlon raincut jacket
Thinking of a small umbrella for sun

Should this be sufficient?Should i add a windbreaker? Not trying to win fashion shows or spend a lot of money on gear.Any advice is welcomed🙏

DirtbagMaps.com - a free trail planner with all PR trails

Hi everyone!

I hiked the Madeira crossing a couple months, absolutely loved the trail, without a doubt one of the most beautiful trails out there - hated the PR-planning and coordination though 👹

Since returning I've schemed on better ways - and this ended up becoming DirtbagMaps.com/madeira, a free map-based trail planner 🗺️

I went full in on Maderias PR trails and info and hope it'll save some of you at least a few hours of planning on your own Madeira adventure.

The site is new - which also means all feedback is more than welcome.

All the best

Transport options

My boyfriend and I will be in Madeira from August 20–30, and we’re looking into transportation options around the island.

We’re hoping to rent a car, but automatic rentals are quite limited and expensive, so we’re exploring alternatives in case we can’t find a reasonable option.

If anyone has tips or suggestions

Thanks!
