Hi all! We looked for tickets to do the one way route on Friday 5th June a month in advance and could only see tickets for 11Am - the rest were seemingly sold out!

Is this really possible? We were told tickets had only been released early May as the system is new.

We were hoping to do the hike for sunrise - is this going to be possible with our 11am tickets? Or will we get turned away. Not sure how the best way to go about it as we thought we were being as prepared as possible.

My husband and I are visiting Madeira June 19 - 20 (traveling day before/after, so no real time for hiking then). I'm looking at these three hikes, but we'll only have time to do two of them. What do folks think about these hikes? Other suggestions?

We are experienced and fit hikers, with numerous hikes in the US and Canadian Rockies and Hawaii, along with elsewhere. We know our own capabilities well, and will not hesitate to abort a hike or turn back if the trail conditions or weather conditions indicate it's not safe to continue. We're not looking for "easy" hikes, so to speak, but would like to see two different sorts of regions in Madeira. (Would people recommend poles for any of these hikes?)

• Coastline hike from Porto da Cruz to Canical. The consensus is that PR 8 on Sao Laurenco is way too overrun with tourists, so I've seen this recommended as an option for views of the coastline and cliffs. This baseline hike seems to be only about 5 miles or so - is there a good way to extend it? From what I can see, it's not a PR route.
• Mountain hike from Boca da Encumeada to Curral das Freiras, which is along PR 12. Since PR 1.3 is closed, this seems like a good way to get some views of the big mountains. Is it relatively scenic? Or is it enclosed by too much trees/brush for views?
• Loop from Ponta do Sol, up and back on Levada Nova and Levada do Moinho. In my hiking book, this caught my eye as an unusual hike, going up one side of a deep gorge and back down the other side. But maybe it's not that interesting? From what I can see, neither levada is a PR route.

Just completed the ~100km hike across madeira and thought i would give you my tips.
So the plan was joining porto moniz to caniçal with a tent and let me tell you it was way easier than all I saw online once on the ground:
- the nights were in 1.Fanal 2.Encumeada 3. Pico Ruivo 4.RibeiroFrio
- booked one Pr but realised we did not really need to pretty quickly: leaving every morning before 9am, we quickly realised no one would Check on us before then
- did not book any campsite as no one actually cared about people on camp sites.

So we did it the other way around for no particular reason, it was not that much easier.

If I were to do it again, my main advice would be not to be stressed with bookings as no one really cares.

I have the 11:30 AM slot for PR 8 booked, but TBH that might be tough in the middle of the day with my pregnant wife. Has anyone done PR 8 recently and had their tickets checked and or the timeslot enforced?

Hey, i am in Madeira with my girlfriend from 17.05-28.05 and we didn‘t expected the PR1 so popular that its completely booked out. If someone has got two Tickets left for that time span please hit me up we would love to experience the Hike eventhough I know there are lots of other pretty hikes on madeira

We have tickets to hike pr1 on Friday 15th May for the 11:30 slot, just wondering if anyone else is on the same time slot and wants to either arrange car pooling back from Achada do taxieria or sharing a taxi back to keep the prices down

I am heading to Maderia in July and wanting to do the PR 1 hike, the full one way.
It says moderate, but I am just wondering how hard is moderate? Is it a lot of incline that makes it harder? I know there is a lot of stairs, or is it more long that makes it harder.
I am in decent shape, and can easily do 4/5 hours without a huge incline.
Just wanting to know if I should prepare more than I already am

Hello! I'm about to leave for Madeira this weekend and just realizing that I've purchased tickets for only the small hike portion from Pico do Areeiro to Pedra Rija ... I booked this back in March and didn't realize that the full hike was actually closed at that time and found out that it reopened and tickets went on sale in April. Is anyone selling a spot for May 16? Or do you think I could get away with doing the full hike with only the Pico do Areeiro to Pedra Rija ticket?

I know it’s been closed forever after the first waterfall due to landslides but the first half has been opened and just recently closed. People are still going and reporting not seeing anything special to justify the closure. Any input on what’s going on?

I am going on the PR1 hike at Sunset on May 17th, which is also the day of the flower festival. We will be staying in the old town part of Funschal and plan on going to the festival. I believe it starts at 430pm, but not sure what time it goes to and what time we would need to leave to PR1 for the short round trip hike and if traffic will be a mess and or the roads are closed.

We booked several PR hikes through Simplifica back in March. Payment went through (45 euros). I got emails saying that the bookings were cancelled because of non-payment.

Has anyone had this problem? Are hikes are in 2 weeks and all the good hikes are booked up now.

I have four ticket to PR 1, 2 for 11:30 and 2 for 12. I also have 2 8am stairway to heaven, all of which I’m looking to sell! Paid 10.50 euros for the full hike each ticket and 4.50 euros for the stairway to heaven.

Me and my partner are visiting madeira at end of this month. We wanted to book the hike "PR1 | Vereda do Areeiro até ao Miradouro da Pedra Rija" - only to visit stairway to heaven and then go back. I never actually asked my girlfriend if she wants to be girlfriend , so i was gonna ask her there with a ring. Turns out it's fully booked out for 8am. If we go at like 6 am and are out by 7:30-7:45 (so we see the sunrise , but before the official time starts) Can we go there even w no booking? I heard there might be a gate stopping you now - is that true and does it stop you?
