New M2 Pro firmware (Q0730)
There’s finally a new firmware update for the M2 Pro (V0000.09.61U.Q0730). There are very few reports out there from M2 owners, but some from C2 owners that aren’t altogether positive: it apparently fixes a half resolution 3D problem, but there are reports of green flashing during HDMI negotiation, reversed left/right 3D, and other issues with HDMI handshaking.
There is also one positive report on the German hi-fi forums claiming that with the C2 on the same firmware, laser luminance adjustment within Dolby Vision (presumably Bright as the other modes are locked) can be used alongside Scenario Enhancement in a specific way. The feature works within a previously selected luminance level in DV, and locks the laser at that level while active.
You first set brightness at your chosen level (say 5) then enable Scenario Enhancement. This allows the projector to reduce output dynamically in dark scenes while retaining the luminance level. The theory is it could make a perceptible difference to black levels and contrast in darker material - on a projector with relatively modest native contrast that could be significant.
I’ve now installed the new firmware and the report holds true for the M2 Pro. The only trouble is I can’t recall if it already worked on the previous firmware P0925! Can anyone check this?
The other notable feature is a new HDR Filmmaker mode for HDR10/10+ content, which could be useful. I have so far seen no issues with handshaking, and I don’t use 3D so I can’t comment on that.
