HLM 27 Ideas for challenges

I am someone who always enjoys coming up with little challenges or "stories" going into starting a new save... curious for ideas others have... here are some I have already in mind

Leafs

I am a Leafs fan so always top of my list ending their drought, and now with also playing out the career of Mckenna it adds another story

2 team expansion

Bring in Atlanta and Houston (the 2 most likely next expansions) and take over one team to build a winner

Anaheim

Try to win with Carlsson now on this big contract

Detroit

Take over, day 1 deal Larkin and try to sort the once storied franchise

Pittsburgh

Try to get Sid one more ring, then rebuild in the aftermath of his retirement

Washington

Similar to Pittsburgh, try to get Ovie one more ring

Winnipeg

with rumors he wants out, be the guy day 1 to deal Hellebuyck and rebuild

any ideas for specific teams, players, or just fun concepts... add away

Avoid CEHL Sim League

Commissioner Sol0ris (Sol) has ghosted and taken the save file with him. The CEHL league has been full of controversy since its inception with player editing, alt accounts, bullying, and conflict every second day.

Many stayed in the league because despite all this, there were consistent sims and the commissioner put a lot of time into the league. Sadly, all of that time has been wasted as he has hijacked the save file and left 31 other GMs in the cold.

He plans on starting a new league for HLM27 or continuing the current one. I strongly recommend finding a different league.

Awards Disappearing From Player Profiles

Lately, I've noticed that only new awards show up on a player's profile, but all of the awards won are still listed under the history section.

Is there any way currently to help contribute to other people's custom rosters?

With the new game on the horizon, I assume the up-to-date custom rosters are in the works. Every so often I'll see missing or incorrect information on a custom roster and fix it on my end (usually just statlines), but is there a way that I can contribute those more technical fixes to the upcoming custom rosters?

I posted on the forum already about some players in RSB's custom roster with missing stats or misspelled names. I figure it'd be good to have other people work on the small-scale fixes to make the roster creator's job easier - especially with the new history eras being added.

Free Agent Rookies

I wish there was a way to see how many years you have to sign a player that’s a rookie. Especially in the contracts page.

If there is a way other than going off age can someone please tell me how. Thanks.

Meh...

I know this will be an unpopular opinion, but I'm feeling pretty meh about the feature reveal this year. This is my opinion only, obviously, and will be unpopular, butttt.... that's how I feel

Edit: pending full reveal (aka as of now I'm underwhelmed)

Deal or no deal?

This one's a puzzler as a recent expansion team im tempted but the thing is Mcqueen turns 22 in a month so less likely he hits now. Plus theyre a contender so the first probably wont be elite. I'm leaning no

GOAT Rimpinen

I try to avoid drafting Stenberg and DuPont because they never seem to develop properly. I gave them another chance for once, but I’m going to regret it again. Somehow, when they’re on AI teams, they always turn into absolute monsters.

Luckily, my team’s GOAT, Petteri Rimpinen, got an insane development boost right after signing an 8x$5.8M deal. My first 99 OVR player, what a draft steal. 2025 NHL Draft, Round 5, 154th overall.

Wondering how the AI performs in the games after HLM 25?

Is there a noticeable differences in the AI’s ability to manage a roster? Such as not having two elite goalies on the same team, both with large contracts but 1 only ever plays 20 games a year just as an example.
Asking because I have been playing the same save for on HLM25 for almost 300 seasons at this point now haha, but am interested in switching to HLM27.

Question for the annual Day 1 purchasers

I usually gear to football mode around release date, so the timing has never lead me to buy the latest version day 1.

I always assumed a game like this needs a few updates to hammer out all the bugs/errors. Am I wrong for assuming that? Does the game usually get smoother after a few weeks or months?

Just curious since I may just buy it early this year, assuming its not too buggy. Im totally fine playing the current version, and if this game ever became a "every 2 or 3 years" release, I wouldnt freak out.

Thanks

Looking for a GM (GHA Sim League)

Hello!

I’m the commissioner of a hockey sim league called the GHA (Global Hockey Association). We’re currently in the middle of our 8th season and have just reached the All-Star Game but unfortunately one of our GMs has stepped down, so we’re now looking for someone to take over their franchise.

About the GHA -
The GHA is a sim league built entirely around custom teams and fictional players originally seeded from the NHA roster.

We do not use any real-life players and every draft class is AI-generated by the game. This means you can’t simply rely on outside knowledge. Every GM is working with the same information and is fully responsible for developing, trading, drafting, and ultimately shaping their franchise.

We are a slow paced sim league. A full season, including the off-season usually takes around 3 - 4 months.

If you’re looking for a league that sims through seasons quickly this isn’t the right fit. The GHA is built around long-term team building, league interaction, and giving GMs time to manage their franchises.

The league operates through:

Discord: All communication, trades, roster moves, league discussion, and general team management.

Read-only Save Files: Used for stats, drafts, contract extensions, player information, and everything directly connected to the game. We recently had to create a new save because of major issues with the previous one, so historical player stats in the current save are incomplete. We maintain a separate History Sheet containing the correct historical records.

Google Sheets: Every franchise has its own team page where GMs set their lines and get all cap-related information, maximum contract limits, etc.

We currently use HLM26 with a custom roster and read-only save files. We will not move to HLM27 as there currently aren’t enough changes to justify a swap.

We consists of 22 teams with a 23rd joining as an Expansion after this season however our long-term goal is to continue growing sloooooowly, potentially to 26+ teams depending largely on future improvements to HLM’s in-game scheduling system.

We’ve built a close-knit group of GMs who care about their franchises and the long-term health of the league and we’re looking for someone who wants to become part of that community rather than simply manage a team for a season or two.

Available Franchis: Washington Ronins

The Washington Ronins is the team in question with an open slot. They have historically been a middle-of-the-pack franchise, generally finishing somewhere around 9th–12th. They aren’t a hopeless rebuild, but they also aren’t a contender.

The team needs a patient GM who can assess the roster, make smart long-term decisions and figure out how to finally push the Ronins toward the top of the league.

If you enjoy taking an established but average franchise and trying to turn it into something bigger, Washington is a great opportunity.

Relocation and/or rebranding is allowed but only after the current season when Sim related stuff calms down.

We are only recruiting one GM and because the GHA is a fairly tight group we don’t simply accept the first person who applies. We’d rather find someone who is genuinely a good fit for the league.

Beyond simply managing your team, we’re looking for someone who will be active in chat, contribute positively to the community, and be able to have disagreements or discussions without taking things personally or lashing out. You don’t need to agree with everyone, you just need to be able to discuss things respectfully.

Please take your time with the application form and give thoughtful answers.

Feel free to look around the league before applying. In particular, check out the Washington Ronins team page under the WSH tab to get an idea of the roster you would be taking over.

If you have any questions, feel free to comment here or send me a DM. I’m happy to explain anything about the league before you apply.

Looking forward to hopefully welcoming a new GM to the GHA soon.

Crazy potential jump immediately after draft

My 13th overall pick, jumped from 4th-line potential to Franchise potential, and Im pretty confident he was top-6 when I drafted him.

I've never seen this jump before. Let alone in this timeframe
