Added some BLING to the HRX today

My brother in law burnt out some deck guards for me. Made them from 14ga stainless. Wish they were put on when mower was new.

HRX217 HYA self propel feels slow?

Is it normal for the blade stop (orange lever) models self propel to feel slower than the ones with the dial? I’ve had HRXVKA in the past and you’re practically running when you turn up the self propel speed.

I just bought this HYA model second hand, and when I have the orange lever all the way down, i’m at a walking pace.

Is this normal or is there something up with the mower?

Got the deal of a lifetime today

Take a guess as to what I got this nicely running HRX217 for? Along with the pull behind sprayer for the acreage. In Canada

Still surging/thumping

Hey group,

I recently changed the air filter, full carb dismantle and thorough clean Inc all holes in bits. Changed oil.

My mower is still throbbing? Thrumpibg? Surging? Whatever the correct term is.

Before the clean, is happened. After the clean it starts fine, after around 60seconds it starts the noise all over again.

I'm a complete novice and often watch a video or two before doing something.

Anyone know how to fix the mower issue?

HRN 216 Not Getting Clippings Into Bag

I think it may be time for new blades. Underside of deck is clean. I usually cut at a 2 or 2.5 front and back wheels. Blades are stock no signs of big nicks. Runs smooth nothing makes me think they are bent. Noticing some spots where even though I overlap pretty aggressive finer grass...more like weeds are still sticking up.

When I pull the bag there is next to nothing in it. Bulk of the clippings really almost all of them are blocking the chute. I make sure the chute is clean before I start.

Grass was dry noticed a good amount of clippings laying on the ground and the amount of clippings under the deck is much less than I'd expect based on yard size etc.

Anyone have any suggestions other than just change em out. They look good to me.

I'm not the guy on the block who goes out with scissors and chemicals and the lawn is more or less a mish mash of crab, weeds and some real grass mixed in.

I haven't examined the cut grass closely for signs of blunt force trauma versus surgical cuts.

HR215 5.0 Masters

Just got done fixing up an older Masters series Honda with key start. It was fun to work on. Got a new battery for it and everything works as intended. Hard to beat a master’s mower with key start, hydrostatic transmission, and the dual blades. Really is the king of mowers!

Unfortunately the previous owners let it sit outside for a long time, so the plastic is all faded.

Hondabond vs Permatex

Gonna start rebuilding small Honda motors. I've been a lifelong Permatex guy, but have read that Hondabond is the cats behind.

Is it really worth 2x the price? Happy to move in that direction if it is.

Thanks in advance!

HRX 217 Died and Fails to Restart (maybe low compression)

Need some help diagnosing my HRX 217. Mowing my lawn the other day and it died. Not like a sputter or slowly turned off. Just suddenly stopped. I didn’t hit anything.

Trying to restart and nothing, kinda sounds different as well. I replaced the ignition kill switch thinking that may be may bad. Not seeing a spark still I replaced the ignition coil. Still no spark, best I can tell. I have a new plug coming but the current one is only about a year old and is a NGK plug.

Has gas and getting gas to the carb and cylinder.

Is it possible to have valve issues on these? I am not sure what else to look for. Putting my finger to the spark plug hole and don’t feel a lot of compression.

Blade question

Hello!

Just picked up my first ever mower.. went with an old hrr2167vka. It starts and runs fine it seems, but when I inspected the blade I noticed it was pretty worn out. Found replacements on the ol amazon of course, went to swap it out today and found that there is only one blade and the mounting pattern is incompatible with the new blades. Digging deeper it appears that my mower had been modified to use a single 21 inch mulching blade. Is this a common upgrade/downgrade or did someone hack this shit up 😂 I noticed they grinded off what appears to be the old mounting studs for the dual blade adapter?

Looking to replace blades on old HRB215

Can anyone tell me what i should be getting? I assume the ones marked upper#5 and lower#3, but what is the "optional" blade #4? Can 3 blades be installed together? Thanks

Been looking for a Honda mower lately. Then my Mother in law said take whatever she had under the porch.

Needs a tune up and maintenance, but she’s free.

What could be causing it to run rough

What could be causing it to run rough? I just got this from someone that definitely did not look after it. Initially it started on 2 pulls. I’ve changed the oil and fuel and now it starts on first pull. I’ve been working since getting it so haven’t spent anymore time with. Planning on cleaning the carb when I get a chance. Anything else y’all would suggest?

Does anyone know where the oil drain plug is located on the HondaHRX 217?

I’ve been messing around trying to fix one when I can, and I have an oil leak underneath. I’ve seen manuals reference a bolt underneath that is released to drain the oil, but I’m not identifying it.

Seems like everyone just uses the tilt method to change their oil out on YouTube, but I’m wanting to check and make sure everything is secure and try to find my leak.

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Does anyone recognize this as a Honda part?

Specifically something that could’ve come from an HRC216? It seems sort of like cheap plastic and I don’t recognize it from the parts diagrams, but I found it in my lawn, and my mower is the only equipment that I’ve had in my lawn recently. Of course, it could always have been trash blown in from the road as well, but it appears to be in fairly decent condition.

Rust on the body of my Honda is it something to worry about when the whole gram is rust free.

Just irked as to why there is rust buildup here, aren’t the steel and rust proof? The whole body even the axles are fine except here. Is it something I need to worry about? And how can I fix it?
