I found him through some reels and he's remarkably Hozierish, in sound, style, and lyrical content. Today for the first time I listened to "Someone Less Good" and I'm a little put off by how much it sounds like Hozier's "Would That I," especially the choruses. I'm a musician, so I do understand that there's only so many chord progressions that sound good and are acceptable in the ears of Western mainstream music. I'm not accusing the guy of copying Hozier, at least not intentionally. I just feel a little weird about the similarities here. Am I thinking too much about it? What are our thoughts?
Since it was just the 3 year anniversary of Unreal Unearth's release and it both feels like it was 10 yrs ago and also 6 months ago... Let's go back in time: How did you approach listening to UU for the very first time? Where were you? Did you listen all the way through or in parts? Did you love any songs that you don't love so much now, or not love any songs that you really love now?
i like the one where he laughs when asked "how are you"
I love when artists release albums with songs that have imperfect sounds such as things falling in the background.
Like Real People Do has what sounds like something dropping on the intro. I hope he never gets rid of it. I know often times in the age of digital music things get remastered and "perfected " and I hate it.
Have you all noticed any other little things lile this in Hozier's songs?
I have been going through a lot lately, and I just feel like I’m purging my old self and making room for an entirely new one, but the main feeling I have inside of me is resentment and indignation.
De Selby (Part 1) and In The Woods Somewhere perfectly describes how I feel inside. The bass, the song’s pace, the lyrics, and just the overall vibe of it, I can’t really explain; I feel like these songs were made exactly for me at this current moment.
I want to make a playlist that contains these songs, and other songs similar to them. It can be from other artists of the same genre, it doesn’t have to only be from Hozier. Thanks!
Anyone else obsessed with the cello in this cover?? I play cello and it is absolutely music to my ears.
Anyone know if there’s sheet music for it??
wanted to practice animating hair in a new program and chose to animate Hozier :)
One of my favorite songs by him is In The Woods Somewhere, and I wanted to know before I dove into UU if there were any other songs that have the same vibe as it? I love it because it conjures a story in my head, which helps me ground myself, and is just an overall good song. Basically, does he have any other mysterious or almost creepy songs?
I absolutely loved Unreal Unearth: Unending and would love to broaden my Apple Music library with more modern folk, soulful, funky and/or lowkey music. Some faves are Wildflower & Barley, July, To Someone From a Warm Climate (Uiscefhuaraithe), and De Selby (Part 1).
I appreciate the atmosphere he creates with ambient sounds and the intricacy of the percussion, bass lines and guitar.
Any suggestions?
EDIT: Thanks, everyone! I’m going with I Cain’t Say No, transposed down a few keys. I’ll have to drop this particular Hozier dream for now.
I’m a 62 year old woman auditioning for a role in a community theater production of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, and need an upbeat song rec for my low alto range. I’d love to use a Hozier song since I know them all so well, they make me happy and relaxed, and lots of them are comfortably in my range, minus the highest and lowest notes or his falsetto bits. I’m leaning toward Almost (Sweet Music) and having the pianist slow it down a bit so I’m not fumbling to articulate the words quickly. Any other thoughts? Or ideas for other songs not by him that are from older musicals that I could play well with?
Looking for potential cat names influenced by my favorite bog man. Give me the obvious names and the obscure ones... it's a cat after all.
Examples:
- Squall (I, Carrion)
- Cherry (Cherry Wine)
- Concrete (To Someone From a Warm Climate)
- Shalala (Unknown/nth)
I saw a video online about bad song choices to play at a wedding, cherry wine and too sweet were listed for obvious reasons. The comments were debating what other Hozier songs would be good or bad to play at a wedding.
My vote was for Francesca.
(might be one of my fave pics of him live)
Which song would you recommend to listen to first as someone who has never heard of Hozier? Like the one song that gets you deep in the Hozier rabbit hole.
What kind of clothes/outfit would one wear if they were to dress up as Hozier for Halloween? Want to do something nice for a girl, I am a man ha
