What’s your favorite quirky thing about hunter no one really thinks of?

I picked hunter for my Bachelors after going to BMCC and I wanted to know what you think about it? Also anyone in media or dance that can share some fun things about the program?

Calm corners?

Aiiiiight yall im 30. I love learning. Im excited to be obtaining my degree. Are there any secret corners of hunter where the vibe is chill and calm and I can just sit and do work? Personal projects or school work?? Preferably with sunlight but not needed. Doesnt matter what department or floor or room. As long as it won’t get me in trouble and there’s wifi, and no crow or obnoxious chatter

Hi there! My name is Joe Baez. My pronouns are she/her/hers. I was born and raised in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, and I've been an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Women and Gender Studies department since 2023. I'm writing to invite you all to enroll in my 8-week online course during Session 1. I am teaching WGS 10000: Introduction to Gender & Sexuality Studies. My course meets from 3:20 pm to 5:40 pm on Mondays and Wednesdays. We will not be meeting on Mondays. We will only be meeting on Wednesdays. There will be lax, alternative assignments on Mondays. There are no required purchases. All materials will be available online on Brightspace.

Please check out my Rate My Professor and my student evaluations! I strive to make sure we are all learning, but in a way that does not feel stressful or disciplinary, especially during an online summer course.

I am still in the process of updating my summer syllabus, but this Fall and this Spring, I discussed topics with my students such as Ozempic, the male loneliness epidemic, Andrew Tate and manosphere, and the trial of Sean Combs. If you're interested in learning about race, gender, and sexuality with an emphasis on representation in the media, please check out my course!

I strongly urge you to please spread word about this course to your friends and your networks at Hunter and at other CUNY institutions.

Will I regret not going to graduation?

My graduation is June 4th, so in a few weeks, I don’t know whether or not it’s worth it to go. I’m not apart of any clubs or any special honors programs. I know we also don’t walk the stage, so it doesn’t feel like anything special. But that’s all I know about graduation. Is there something I’m missing? What’s it like? Do you guys think it’s worth it?

Help

What should I do if a Ai checker shows that my essay is Ai generated when it’s not and is going to cost me my grade to pass? It’s on google doc but not sure if that will even help.

Queer Friends at Hunter?

Hey everyone! I’m starting grad school at Hunter this fall and would love to meet more queer and alternative people around my age. I’m 24F and into taking long walks around the city, trying new foods, going to concerts, and just exploring NYC in general.

Would be cool to make some genuine friendships before the semester starts feel free to message me or comment if we have similar interests :)

Hello Hunter students,

I'm P.B. Hope, an adjunct professor in the Women and Gender Studies department. One of my current students recommended that I post here. This summer, I am scheduled to teach WGS100 Introduction to Gender and Sexuality Studies (#4204) May 28th - July 22nd Monday / Wednesday 6:00-8:20PM Online-Synchronous on zoom (break ~7:20-7:30). Unfortunately, we are currently two students short of the enrollment requirement. If that doesn't change by this Friday the 22nd, the course will be cut which will be a big loss to me and the students who are currently signed up. So I'm reaching out to invite you all to join my course.

I've included some information about the course, which fulfills the Pluralism & Diversity Category C/3 "Intersectionality and Social Justice" requirement and a link to the syllabus below. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out!

WGS100 - Introduction to Gender and Sexuality Studies (#4204)

Instructor: P. B. Hope (they/them) pbhopeful@gmail.com
Class: Monday / Wednesday 6:00-8:20PM Online-Synchronous on zoom (break ~7:20-7:30)

Course Grading:

  • Participation (40%)
  • Build the Curriculum (30%)
  • Make a Movement (30%)

Schedule:

  • Unit 1 – Introductions
  • Unit 2 –  Liberation, Domination, and Education: Why is learning so important ft. the movie Previous?
  • Unit 3 – Learning about Ourselves Together: How can we learn from each other?
  • Unit 4 – Community in the Classroom: What is a learning community?
  • Unit 5 – Building the Curriculum (Midterm): Design a class of your own.
  • Unit 6 – The Construction of Identity: Where do our identities come from ft. Mulan?
  • Unit 7 – Intersectionality and Experience: How do our identities interact?
  • Unit 8 – The Many Faces of Injustice: What does it really mean to be oppressed?
  • Unit 9 – Change Your Community (Final): Design a movement to make your community more just.

Short Course Description:

My course is centered around the idea that true learning happens when we critically discuss our experiences with each other, rather than passively listening to an authority figure (whether me, the professor, or anyone else). In the first half of class, we explore what it means to create knowledge together and how that skill can empower us far beyond the classroom. In the second section, we explore a few key ideas of feminism as tools to help us critically explore ourselves and society. My goal is for you to leave the course better able to make informed and confident decisions about how to best live your truth, and maybe to have made a friend or two along the way.

All texts and materials are provided electronically.

You're also welcome to checkout my ratemyprofessor as well as my CUNY student evaluations to see what my previous students have had to say about the course!

Warmly,
Prof. Hope

How difficult is PSYCH 248 at Hunter really? What should I realistically expect?

Hey everyone, I’m planning on taking PSYCH 248 (Statistical Methods in Psychological Research) soon as part of the psych major and I wanted to ask people who already took it what the class is actually like at Hunter.

I’ve read the course description already, but I’m still trying to understand the real experience of the course from students themselves.

I know it’s a statistics/research methods class, but I’m wondering:

  • Is it heavily math-based?
  • Are you constantly solving equations/problems by hand?
  • Or is it more about interpreting research and understanding what the statistics mean?
  • How difficult was it compared to other psych courses?
  • What made the class challenging?
  • What should I brush up on beforehand?
  • Does the lab portion make the course harder or more manageable?
  • Were the writing assignments/research papers a big part of the grade?
  • Any professors you’d recommend (or avoid)?

I’m honestly not a “math person,” so I think the idea of the course sounds more intimidating to me than it maybe actually is. At the same time, I’m trying to mentally prepare myself and get a realistic idea of the workload and difficulty before enrolling.

Any advice, experiences, survival tips, or even reassurance would honestly help a lot. Thanks in advance.

HMBIO TO MLS (Clinical)

Hey guys! I’m considering applying to MLS depending on how well I do in the fall since it would be cheaper career option than a human bio degree plus pharmacy school (and no patient interaction, lmao). Any tips for Chem 102 and Math 12550??? I like the idea of becoming a clinical pharmacist and will probably end up pursuing it anyway, but I want to keep my options open! If you’re a current student, what was your GPA??? Those seek tutors will be seeing me omg

Retaking class over the summer

I know I got an F for a class this semester so I want to retake it over the summer. But when I try adding it to schedule builder it shows me that I already took the class. Do I have fill out a retake course form or wait until grades come out?

Fix the transfer process from CC to a 4 year.

I am transferring into hunter bc it's cheaper for me, anyways this whole time while I was at Laguardia I made sure to keep track of courses that would transfer over to a 4 year. Now they telling me they won't apply to my major and that I would have to start over again or take placement exams. I was also told this is an issue that CUNY is trying to fix but why is this an issue to begin with?

are hunter professors helpful with prospective transfers?

title. i'm hoping to transfer out of hunter into a top 25 school. i didn't get my intended results after applying in high school, but i've secured internships that will really help my app stick out and solidify my narrative. the only thing i'm concerned about is rec letters.

has anyone had experience asking professors for rec letters to transfer out? if so, were they supportive? i hear that i shouldn't ask my macaulay professors because they can be pretty possessive about the program. i also know my sister struggled with vindictive professors at a private nyc college.

if there are any vindictive professors, who should i watch out for?

i just hope that my professors will understand that everyone has different priorities academically and that they will write a letter that truly represents me as a student. thank you for the read and wish me luck!!

Got back our exam 4 grades and honestly I’m wondering how people feel in their standing in the class? I’m trying to convince myself that he wouldn't fail majority of us right?

How to withdraw

Does anyone know how to withdraw atp for a class in the semester. I know you can medically withdraw and I have a reason for some physical health problems this sem that got in the way of my grades. I can have a physician write me letter. Does anyone know what the process entails
