Cloud III or Cloud II?
I'm deciding whether to get a Cloud III or Cloud II for my PC. I'm looking for good sound profiles for tactical shooters like CS2, Valorant, and Siege. Which is better for those purposes?

I just bought a brand new pair of HyperX Cloud III Wireless directly from Amazon. I noticed that the newer versions of the NGENUITY software have phased out the DTS Headphone:X support in favor of HyperX's own Spatial Audio.
However, Windows still creates several virtual channels like "NGENUITY - 8 Channel Spatial" and "NGENUITY - Chat", which seems to cause some confusion.
My main question is for HyperX support or anyone who went through this: Is there an official way to still validate and use the lifetime DTS Headphone:X license that was originally advertised for this headset? (For example, through the DTS Sound Unbound app using the hardware ID, or via an older driver version).
I just want to know if getting the DTS license to work is still possible or if it's completely deprecated for newly manufactured batches. Any official response or solution on how to properly handle the DTS license with the current software ecosystem would be greatly appreciated.
Probably doesnt mean much to the average user as I dont use my headset as much as most people would but thought id do a little experiment. I charged my headset to 100% on the 11th of September, 2025, and have only just hit 0% today. Thats over 8 months on a single charge with the amount I use it. Pretty insane.
Its a 2022-23(?) model using dolby atmos for processing.
Hi everyone,
I need to share my deeply frustrating experience with HyperX/HP customer support regarding my HyperX Cloud III S Wireless headset (released in 2025).
Recently, the proprietary USB-C wireless dongle completely stopped working. It just died out of nowhere — my PC doesn't recognize it at all, and no lights are showing. Since the headset is under the official 2-year warranty, I reached out to support.
The support agent (Stefan) officially acknowledged the defect but basically told me that they cannot help. First, they told me to go look for a replacement dongle in local Estonian supermarkets (Euronics, Telia, Klick), which obviously do not sell individual proprietary spare parts. When I pointed out that retailers don't sell separate dongles, they bluntly replied that their supervisor strictly prohibited shipping to other countries, and that the Cloud III S adapter is "out of stock" anyway.
This is unacceptable for a brand like HP/HyperX. My device is brand new and under warranty, the dongle failed on its own, and instead of placing my case on a global backorder list or helping me out, they just brushed me off. They are literally turning a premium headset into electronic waste because of a broken receiver.
Can any of the official moderators here help me escalate this ticket to a global manager who can actually fix this?
Heard that default III sounds way worse than II but better with 3.5 jack and with equalizer tinkering. Is that true or do Cloud II still sound better?
So i recently got the Hyper X Cloud 3 Wireless headset as a gift for my Birthday
But im just not happy with the sound... it sounds like i have pressure on my ears and the software doesnt really help i feel like... i looked at 5 diffrent videos they all say i have to download somesoftware called DTS sound unbound but i dont want to play 10€ a month for "good" sound does anyone have the same problem or a solution for my problem? :(
Acabei de receber o meu e está funcionando normal, queria saber se ao eu usar o app no PC ele melhora alguma coisa no PS5? E se alguém usa esse headset no DayZ, se tem alguma configuração de som para jogar ele é que seja melhor?
Hello everyone,
I wanted to ask current owners of the HyperX Cloud III S Wireless if the silent-scene sleep / power-saving issue is still happening.
Previously, many users reported that after around 10 seconds of silence, the headset would go into a sleep state and the audio would return with a short delay when sound started again. Even with power-saving options disabled in the software, the issue still happened for some people.
Has this been fully fixed with recent firmware or software updates in 2026?
I would really appreciate feedback from current users, especially:
Does the headset still sleep during quiet scenes?
Is there still a delay when audio comes back?
Does disabling auto-sleep in Ngenuity completely solve it?
Would you recommend the headset now?
Thanks in advance for your help.
I finally got to try the Cloud Earbuds 3 as i got them on a sale on the HP website. Coming from earbuds 2, i definitely noticed an improvement in the mic quality. It is more sensitive and sounds more clear. The audio for the most part sounds the same, the 14mm drivers are great, and it has pretty good directional audio. They also added a mic mute switch which is great!
Update: after using it for 2 days, i definitively notice an improvement in audio quality and it is now my favorite earbuds.
My CloudX Gaming headset broke today so I decided to go out and buy the Cloud 3. The audio quality is absolutely abysmal. Everything is muffled and I can’t hear anything well. How can the supposed upgrade sound so much worse???
My headphones after .7 years of use have decided to desync from the normal audio, creating a slight echo with a lean towards treble (hyperx cloud 3s wireless). I have been a customer since you first launched and have enjoyed most of your products since the first release of headphones. It's been a pleasure and I truly enjoyed your products when they were good.
Hello dear HyperX team,
I want to express my sincere gratitude to your company and your products. I have been using one pair of HyperX Cloud 2 headphones for 10 years now.
I was given them as a gift when I was in 7th grade. During this time, I have moved to another country, earned my bachelor's degree, and now I am in my first year of a master's program.
Over these 10 years, I have spent thousands of hours gaming and traveled thousands of kilometers — but my headphones have always been with me. They still work perfectly without any issues. The only thing I have done in all this time is replace the ear pads.
I want to express huge gratitude to your engineers. Without your product, I would not have had so many great emotions. Please pass on my thanks to the engineering department. Their work deserves respect and recognition.
P.S. I am studying to become an engineer myself, so I understand how hard it is to create a good product. I just want to say a big thank you. Your Cloud 2 headphones have become more to me than just headphones. They are a part of my life.
Sincerely,
Your customer for 10 years
So, for the past week or two I've been having issues with my Quadcast S. I first noticed that the lights stopped turning on when I'd turn on or wake up my computer. It'd still be connected but there would be no indicator that it was currently on, and I even checked if maybe it was muted and it was not. The only way I knew it was still connected was because it'd make the Windows disconnect/connect sound every time. I'd just unplug the cable then plug it back in and then it'd light up again. A few days after that, when I'd plug the cable back in, I was getting notifications on my computer that a device wasn't being recognized or that it malfunctioned. I'd keep just unplugging and plugging the cable back in until it worked, which usually it did.
Well... I guess today was its last day on Earth because it didn't want to turn back on after I tried the cable multiple times. I tried different ports on my computer, restarting, tried a different cable, and nothing. Just totally dead.
My Quadcast lasted 5 years, bought around January or February of 2021. This was my first ever stand alone mic I've bought, so I'm unsure if this is a standard amount of time for one of these mics to last. It didn't get heavy use or anything, I used it at least a couple times a month for the past couple years.
Is this normal for this specific mic? I saw some other posts saying theirs lasted anywhere between 1.5 years to 3 years, but that post was like 2 years old now. I'm curious as to what people have to say now or if theirs have lasted as long as mine has or even longer. I'm not necessarily sad it died because it has served me well, but I was also kind of expecting it to last for many more years. Since this was my first HyperX product, I'm not entirely sure about the lifespan of their stuff.
I know this topic has been discussed before, but I'd like to bring it to the attention of users who aren't aware of it and clear up some things.
Have you tried the DTS X Spatial Sound option in the "Legacy" NGENUITY app? Did you decide that it sounded horrible and that spatial sound wasn't for you? I'm here to tell you that it's not actually the fault of spatial sound. Disable it if you haven't already, then download the DTS Sound Unbound app from the Microsoft Store. In the app, select HyperX Cloud III S Wireless as your headset, and you're all set. This is the real spatial sound experience you'll get from these headphones. You'll notice the difference. Test it with 5.1 audio movies and games. It does not affect stereo content, as it should.
For some reason, the DTS option in the NGENUITY app distorts the sound. I don't know how they managed to do this, but the sound output is definitely not what it should be, according to my tests. With the Sound Unbound app, however, the sound is clear and crisp in every direction. While watching a movie, for example, I can hear the characters in front of me instead of all around me as I would with typical stereo content. Surround effects are also more prominent. The same goes for games. I can hear sounds coming from any direction and distinguish them easily. (Some games have their own 3D sound engines. You don't need this feature in those games, e.g., CS2 or other competitive games. I'm mostly talking about AAA, story-driven games.)
In conclusion, if you use standard stereo mode (no spatial sound) because of the poorly implemented spatial sound effects in NGENUITY, you won't be able to take full advantage of your headphones' capabilities when consuming media and AAA game content. My advice would be to ditch the NGENUITY spatial audio option — maybe even uninstall the driver it installs — and switch to the DTS Unbound configuration for the best experience.
On occasion when I'm chatting on Discord, my headphones will make a little pop of static when someone is finished talking. I'm using the the beta NGENUITY app, and Discord is tied to the "Chat" audio output. The rest of my system is on the 8 channel audio, and my headphones are on firmware 4.1.2.2
Also, is there a way to turn the audio feedback for the headphones (turning on, muting mic, etc.) to the beeps like in the original NGENUITY firmware?
I have HyperX III S wireless on the current ngenuity software. Just now I received a notification about a new firmware and I followed the instructions to update my firmware and it is failing every time. In the past I have successfully updated firmware using this method without any issues until now.
I have tried plugging into a bunch of USB ports to no avail. I have rebooted my PC a few time over and start the upgrade process and yet it keeps failing.
Hey, I have a hyper cloud 3 but today i accidentally broke the cable the extending cable, or the one that makes it longer,
I was wondering if I can find it on amazon or somewhere else.
After this firmware update(4.1.2.4) I can confirm that my volume wheel setting is now fixed it doesnt randomly change the volume now. I still have to test other issues like random distortions and other bugs that we currently had. Also feel free to add the fixes below.
Edit : make sure to update your Ngenuity legacy from Microsoft store to receive the update.
Hello everyone,
About two months ago, I bought the HyperX Cloud 3 S. I updated everything, including the headset software. When I first got it, I really liked the sound quality and the comfort on my head.
However, during silent scenes, the headset would go into sleep mode after about 10 seconds of no sound. Then, when audio started again, it took around 1 second to wake up. This really bothered me.
I got a replacement from the store where I bought it, but the new unit had the exact same issue. After reading forum posts, I saw that many people were complaining about this problem. It seems the aggressive sleep mode cannot be fully disabled. There is a sleep setting in the software, but people say it does not actually help, and that the headset is designed this way at the hardware level to improve battery life.
Because of this, I ended up returning a headset that I otherwise really liked. However, I heard that HyperX had been in beta for a long time and that a new update was supposed to fix the sleep mode issue.
Has anyone received the update and tested it? Did it fix the problem? If the issue is solved, I’m thinking about buying the headset again. I also noticed that HyperX seems to have moved out of beta into a full release now, so maybe the beta period is over.
Thanks in advance, and have a great day everyone.
I have loved these headphones, the bass for what I paid for them ages ago is also incredible. But, the years have done numbers on these headphones. I have been looking through replacements for my pair and I'm having trouble. I have been thinking about upgrading to Cloud III (wired) but, from what I've been reading the Cloud III is not as comparable in sound quality from the Kingston Cloud II. Should I give the Hyper X Cloud III a chance or pick up a different pair of headphones?
